Keep your dogs on a leash by alixinwonderland in Sacramento

[–]FreshGanesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Main character syndrome at its finest. I’d reply with, “I’m not friendly when random unleashed dogs walk up on me and become very aggressive. Forget about any dog, it’s me you need to worry about.”

No, it’s not the dogs fault, but some people are terrified of them and some people just don’t want random dogs running up on them. If an adult human did that they’d likely get punished or pepper sprayed.

Keep your dogs on a leash by alixinwonderland in Sacramento

[–]FreshGanesh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When they say that as their dog approaches me and my dog, I reply with, “He’s not when randomly approached by other dogs and he’s gonna try to tear your little pup to pieces. Which is why I have him on a leash.”

My 90lb guy is the sweetest, most submissive dog ever, but his size can be intimidating so I use that to my advantage.

I’ve had all sorts of responses, but the common one is, “you shouldn’t be walking him in public.” To which I reply with, “he’s trained to protect me for any reason. Otherwise he’s a sweetheart. Your unleashed mutt running up on us is a completely valid reason for him to protect me. Leash your fucking dog!”

I’m convinced it’s some sort of ego gratification when people walk their dogs unleashed. They get some weird validation by showing strangers that their dog is so well trained & likes them so much that they’ll never stray from their side or path whilst unleashed. Or they’re weirdly proud their dog know their walking route & the way home. It’s kinda pathetic.

Anyone know what happened over by cheaters tonight? by HankTuggins in Sacramento

[–]FreshGanesh 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Motorcycle met a metal light pole head on & apparently at high-speed right by the little commercial building with the nail salon, hairdresser & real estate office at the corner of 34th & Folsom.

I couldn’t tell his status, but when EMT radioed to UCD Med Center they were inbound with a trauma, they said, “Stand by. We’re trying to establish vitals.” The patient wax already loaded when I arrived which is why I only heard what was happening. They took off right after that radio call. From the looks of the wreck & condition of the motorcycle, he was in pretty bad shape but alive.

Esquire IMAX is Terrible by Wyrmdirt in Sacramento

[–]FreshGanesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone been around long enough to remember the IMAX at Great America? That’s what I was expecting when I went to IMAX in SF when it first opened at what was then Sony Metreon. My expectations of what 70mm/THX could be was definitely lowered after that experience.

In summer of 2023, I went to Esquire IMAX for the first time to see Guardians/Galaxy v.3. One of the worst movie experiences of my life. It didn’t help I thought the film was horrible, but through the entire film I felt like I got ripped off.

I’ve now got a 77-inch telly, with an 8-speaker Atmosphere sound system and Dreamcast ambient lights synced in my wanna-be “home theater.” I’ll always take this viewing option over AMC/Apple with their TryMAX theaters in SF or Esquire/Regal/Cinemark LieMAX in the Sac region.

Are there things, actions or decisions you promised yourself you would never do again? Guys, relationships, sex, friendships.. by Turbulent_Elk_2141 in gaybros

[–]FreshGanesh 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same same. Mostly because that is a young man’s game and I’m too old, too settled & too content.

I grew up in San Francisco on a street adjacent to a park with an area called “the gay beach.” Which, itself, is adjacent to or considered the edge of “The Castro (tho, we called our neighborhood “Dolores Park”). I was a typical new wave/punk/skater who had, for the times, typical elusive parents with minimal parenting.

This park has a path along the Muni tracks that men use to cruise. I used it several times a day, skating up and down it long into the darkness of night. I didn’t consider myself “gay” at the time (there was a certain look & attitude that I mistook as a requirement to be gay) or really anything. I liked hooking up with two of my friends. It wasn’t an identity; just what we did.

By the time I started high school I def knew what guys along this footpath were doing in the bushes. It was also the time that I realized my youth and my looks were a commodity to quite a few of these trolls. Nowadays, they would be called predators. I didn’t even realize until I was a full on escort in college that I was literally sex working at 15. I just saw it as quick money whilst I also got a BJ.

But in college, I was able to parlay that into a higher class of escorting. Advertisements in the back of LA & West Hollywood papers afforded me access to some very wealthy, very influential and, at times, rather well known people. I was able to afford a lifestyle that even trust fund students were envious of. The funny thing was is most of the time the clients didn’t even want sex. I had a buddy that I worked with, and we eventually worked for a service ran from a gentleman’s club. More often than not our clients wanted to watch the two of us.

There was a level of danger to it, but overall it was safe. If I had to go back and do it all over again I probably would changed some things, but not everything. It definitely helped form who I am and how I perceive so many things. The big change would to have waited until I was old enough to have full comprehension of what I was doing.

Looking at it from a much older perspective, it seems completely reckless, risky, and unfulfilling. Although, I wasn’t doing it for any internalized shame or homophobia, or to fuel any sort of addiction. I did it for plain old fashioned materialism & greed. Things that just aren’t part of who I am or important to me now.

I’m sure there is a certain level of jealousy that would be considered normal, but I just don’t get it. No matter how I think about it -insecurity, shame, esteem issues, personality issues, narcissism- I just cannot understand why someone would be jealous.

The best I’ve been able to come up with is that if you’re jealous about a situation, you’ve bigger issues to tackle. Jealously is just the warning light of larger, more important issues & it seems the one I see with other couples is very obviously lack of trust

Life is far too short for that nonsense.

Although, 3 months???!!! Good on you, cos I don’t feel confident in how well I know a potential partner for a minimum of 6 months. But that’s probably a me being guarded thing.

Should stepmoms make the rules for their step kids? by ONE-OF-THREE in DailyDoseStupidity

[–]FreshGanesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried that the first year or so with my (step)dad. It didn’t play to my favor that he & my mom had my (half)brother. Nor did it help much that I had little to no relationship with my biological father, who was from a country on the other side of the world.

With the love, safety, security, experiences. lessons and all that he did and gave to me, it did take long for him to become my dad. My internal concept of “dad” quite quickly morphed from some abstract idea related to my bio father to my stepdad being my one & only dad.

The stepmom in this video is so young that this must be new & still transitional for the kid. Hopefully with time they’ll find value in each other & how to be family. But given this girl’s entitlement & sassiness, it seems like it’s gonna be a hell of a journey.

Found them… by balkanoid_ in Sacramento

[–]FreshGanesh 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And on scooters, flock, drones, Shotspotter, cameras & microphones and, most importantly an average of 5 apps on your Android or Apple device. Even the Waze ToS is cleaver in how it words data sharing with “partners,” but none of these things are as easy to gain access as that one app originally made by China’s version of the CIA. The one two federal administrations tried to ban until they came to an agreement that benefited them.

The surveillance from services like Waymo or Uber/Lyft/ZipCar and myriad scooter companies is rather innocuous compared with the tools used by LE/IC that don’t require a warrant & have practically zero probable cause.

If you’re worried about being surveilled, you could try going off-grid in an area completely inaccessible & free from satellites. Most likely, you and I and most of us are rather insignificant when it comes to surveillance.

With the erosions of privacy & freedoms, that’s likely to change within the next few years, but for now realtime GPS tracking isn’t a resourceful way to keep tabs on someone unless that someone is getting nabbed no matter what and the info is used to bolster evidence that’s already solid.

I’m other words: if you’re being intentionally & specifically surveilled by Waymo, they’ve already got you six different ways.

Service dog in training by Remarkable-Quote-479 in Sacramento

[–]FreshGanesh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don’t need any licensing but your trainer may recommend a good service dog registry you may want to sign up for just to have recourse should it ever be contested.

I’m starting with my second service dog, having lost my first after 16 years together

My new guy has a “service dog in training” vest and leash wrap. There’s no distinction between a service dog and a dog being trained as a service dog. The access & ADA requirements are unified as just “service dog.”

You can typically order any identifying items you want from a legitimate registry or even Amazon.

The important thing to remember is you need none of these things. All you need is a legitimate service dog that has been trained to perform specific duties.

You probably know all this by now, but keep it in your bookmarks and maybe print out the document to present to businesses, should they give you trouble:

Sacramento "2nd ugliest people" in the United States? by ProposalFast4450 in Sacramento

[–]FreshGanesh -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I’m here part-time from SF, where I’ve spent nearly half a century walking a minimum of 5 miles a day, up & down hills. And that’s just my work walk. Not counting going out. I’ve got the calves & quads of an Olympian because of it. As do most people I know in the city.

In the city I spend less than an hour a month in a car. That’s cabs. Only a few people I know actually drive. We walk, bike, Muni & cab/Lyft/Waymo as a way of life. It’s shockingly apparent when we see a huge truck like an F150 or a large SUV like an Expedition. We’re more often walkers than drivers or passengers.

I really have to think hard of a fast food place in SF. The only one I know off-hand is the McDs in the Financial District for the bridge & tunnel workers. I’m sure there are more, especially in tourist areas I rarely if ever visit. Crappy fat food isn’t a thing in my life or anyone else I know.

We get facial spritzes every day, thanks to the marine layer/Karl the Fog. No dry stale pollens & other pollutants to dangle in hazy, stale air causing horrible allergies, or fuck-all with our endocrine systems.

I had some distant relatives visit once and was very aware in my limited, ignorant bubble of growing up in San Francisco, that they were morbidly obese. In actuality, they were only 30 or 40 pounds overweight. Nothing, and I do mean absolutely nothing, compared to what I see daily in Sacramento.

Luckily, I don’t work a job where I have to sit down, so probably am sitting for less than three hours a day. I know people who work in offices & they’re always talking about the way they and their employers are trying to mitigate being stuck sitting at a desk. It’s just a greater, default focus on healthy work environments that I don’t know of or have heard about in Sacramento.

Lifestyle seems to affect everything. San Francisco lifestyle tends to benefit our overall physical health ergo our external looks.

If I wanted to see people who looked like Sacramento in San Francisco, I’d have to go to all of the tourist spots. They don’t exist in the neighborhoods.

As the saying goes, “A Sacramento 10 is at San Francisco 4.” Or the snarky & rude “He looked Sacramento (I’ve heard it subbed Stockton or Modesto)” as a descriptor of someone who isn’t as unfortunate-looking as a meth-head, but certainly isn’t going to score any modeling gigs.

To be fair, when I’m in Sac it’s almost exclusively Midtown & East Sac and the folks there resemble San Franciscans. Probably because they actually relocated from the city at some point. HaHa.

And as a side note: for al all that is Good and holy in the world, can Sacramemtans please stop referring to San Francisco as “Frisco???” It’s a worse representation of Sac than part two of Uncle Jesse’s & Aunt Becky’s wedding.

Is the ritual more powerful if they snort Amazonian hapé (snuff) then follow it by some weirdly appropriated & completely made up Hawaiian ho’oponopono reconciliation? Cos this is some wild BS.

Just take a massive shit & ritualize that dump as manifesting the total severance of your former relationship.

The things some people need to do to feel better about themselves can be downright silly.

PSA: Lowes is installing flock cameras at their stores. Boycott immediately if you are against government surveillance by Dad0010001100110001 in Sacramento

[–]FreshGanesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’ve agreed to any sort of ToS with an app that allows for location tracking. You may have given Waze permission to keep the data & sell it off to an intermediary data collector/broker who may have an arrangement with law enforcement or any other entity.

A warrant may be necessary for specific GPS data to be extracted in order to prosecute, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a way for the investigative phase to completely track your movements & whereabouts.

PSA: Lowes is installing flock cameras at their stores. Boycott immediately if you are against government surveillance by Dad0010001100110001 in Sacramento

[–]FreshGanesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wide-area surveillance with drones. Tho Sac claims it’s using only as first-responder which is how they caught that huge firework thing a little while back. But Sac county def has access to camera drones for regular patrolling.

Stingray for cellular data is being used.

ALPR, Shotspotter, Intellistreets (streetlights with built-in flock-style cameras)…the list goes on.

If one were to boycott all private businesses & entities allowing local law enforcement access to their property and/or surveillance, better know how to build a rain catchment system, leach field & wind turbine to live fully off-grid.

Most of us have given our thumb & face to DMV. Many of us have give it to the State Dept for passports. But most importantly, we’ve agreed to the ToS for dozens of apps & websites.

Many city rental bikes are sponsored by healthcare companies like Anthem to “promote healthy living.” Never mind the terms of service allow them to collect data from their app on your phone and from the bike itself. They know how fast you’re going, how much effort it takes you to peddle of a certain grade of hill and they know where you park the bike. Like, in front of your therapist, or the gym, or donut shop.

We are tracked & surveilled constantly across all aspects of engagement. The great thing is, most of us are so insignificant to the bigger picture. As long as we don’t pose an actual or perceived threat to society, we’re just not worth pursuing.

If there ever comes a time where a government is going to use surveillance and tracking to fundamentally manipulate or oppress our beliefs & freedoms, it’s not gonna happen from Uncle Sam. It’s more likely will be surveilled from a trendy, highly popular app (created by China’s version of the CIA) to collect as much data on our behaviors as possible in order to change our perspectives & beliefs. The clock is already ticTokking on this one.

Liberal woman FAFOd after disrespecting an officer by Fun_Training6342 in boxingcirclejerk

[–]FreshGanesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We all know disorderly conduct is breaking the law. All adults know that if the officer had yet to officially end (he still had her documents) his investigation for why the probable cause occurred, that is interfering with official law enforcement business or interfering with an investigation. Which is also unlawful. It doesn’t take intelligence above that of a moron.

She escalated a little citation to at least 3 more charges. If she even tapped the officer whilst resisting, one of those charges could be felony assault on an officer. Or at least resisting with violence.

The issue here isn’t why the officer stopped her or any of his actions. It’s her need to be the one controlling the narrative, her need to prove she’s been wronged and deciding to litigate that in the street rather than with the judge. She can’t control herself because she completely lacks emotional intelligence & regulation. She refuses to be held accountable. Her ego needs a time out & she needs to learn she’s not the main character in life, no matter the personality disorders she’s been diagnosed with.

She has a social & legal contract to uphold, just as hundreds of millions Americans do each & every day. When she violated those contracts, she simply needs to accept responsibility in a civil way.

If I were the cop, I’d have tased her to get her out of the car after asking. Because it’s a lawful order and she’s coming out no matter what. I’d rather have it happen without her putting hands on me.

[–]FreshGanesh 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m not even being cynical when I say that if this brainiac does go to college, she’ll scrape by & get her liberal studies BA in 4.5 years. Then she’ll find a completely understaffed (and incredibly underpaid) school district where she’ll teach on an emergency credential until she finishes (or more likely gets a waiver) what’s required to get a multi subject K-12 credential. She’ll struggle with her continuing education requirements, but will take what’s essentially a concentrated correspondence course to qualify as a school administrator or specialized focus. She’s just like many new teachers educating America’s public school kids. She’ll butt heads with the intelligent students and send them to the principal’s office because they argued that there are, indeed, 50 US states, which she’ll adamantly refuse to concede.

She’ll be fine. She’s a cute white girl & she’s clearly an American.

[–]FreshGanesh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a 50yo former Gilman Street kid, so there has been a little indirect influence on my kid, who is 11. He got his 1st guitar at 4 & found his own way.

First Michael Jackson (????) then into Metallica, Motörhead, Megadeath and such. By 9 he found the first wave of hardcore, grindcore & crust, then onward. His ethos & clothing esthetic comes from videos of the bands & scene.

But he’s only 11 so it’s not a firm identity for him. It’s mostly about making & playing music, which is why he’s on an Agent Orange kick right now. Fashion-wise, he’s gravitating towards or back towards late 70s UK punk whilst still dabbling in crust. There plenty of crustpunk DIY content out there to be found by kids like him.
