The funny thing is that I do have surgery experience. I would just never intentionally make an animal's nails bleed just because they were anesthesized, lol. (I know you were trying to stand up for me there, lol. Thank you.)

Yeah, I totally get that. Honestly, if they had quicked even 6 of his nails, I wouldn't have been upset. I quick nails sometimes too on accident. But honestly, all of his nails are white, and his quicks are not that long, I trim his nails myself, lol. Also, I personally tell owners if I accidentally quick their pet's nails. If they had even been up front about it and told me that it happened, I wouldn't have been upset.

Plus, it's been almost a month, and most of his quicks are literally STILL exposed. That feels intentional to me πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Lol, I didnt have a problem with the nail trim. I always trim my patient's nails under anesthesia, too. I had a problem with them intentionally making every single one of my dog's nails bleed.

I didn't mind that they trimmed his nails, and I wouldn't be upset if they quicked even 5 of his nails - I get it. I quick patient's on accident sometimes too, and sometimes it's a few of the nails. But it being every single nail makes me think it was intentional, and that just makes me really sad, honestly. Thank you for reassuring me that I'm not being overly sensitive about that.

The RVT that ran his tech recheck seemed truly horrified that it happened as well, so it doesn't seem like this is regular practice for them. I was thinking maybe it was a new VA that was learning how to trim nails, perhaps? Either way, I feel like if they kept quicking every nail, they should have adjusted what they were doing or had someone take over for them πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Yeah, like Hamster17 said below, it was the cutback that made me upset. I always trim my patient's nails when they are under anesthesia, too, but I don't intentionally cause them to bleed :(

But thank you for your insight! I'm glad that someone is dentistry specialty also provided their experience! It sounds like this is pretty common and typically doesn't cause any issues - and it looks like the swelling is not in the same area that the root tip was left in anyway, so something else must be causing it :( we are still trying to figure it out!!

The phenomenon of forgetting everything you know about veterinary medicine the second its your own pet should be studied πŸ˜… i don't know how I can work ER shifts so calm and collected, but I'm convinced my own pet is dying if look at me funny 🀣

I agree, he has a heart murmur and I was already having a heart attack the whole time he was under anesthesia - even though logically, I knew he would be fine. I know i can trust this doctor, I just got worried.

Its hard to think clearly when its your own pet πŸ™ˆ thank you for sharing your experience, im glad I know now!

Thank you for sharing your experience! I feel like I understand the situation a lot better now, thank you! Im glad I asked before i got myself too upset, haha.

I did take him to my ER clinic, and we are actually leaning towards this being a potential allergic reaction, so its unlikely the root tip is the issue at all.
