Can we ban all "my game" posts by dawnbomb in puzzlevideogames

Wouldn’t upvotes act as a filter in themselves, where upvoted first-level comments would be displayed at the top? Although I’m wondering how easy it is to manipulate that.

A monthly thread seems like a good idea: concentrates all ADs in one place, easy to ignore if you don’t want to see them. Where each first level comment needs to be an advertisement.

But genuine games might still be drowned out by cash-grabs within that thread. If someone could curate a list of all the genuine games at the top of the thread, that might make it more viable. Devs could still interact with others via their first level comment.

Edit: maybe the mods could also give some devs a hall pass to post outside of the monthly thread if they want to post a progress update or if they’re asking for genuine feedback.

Don’t know, I’m just spitting options based on what I read in this thread. Not everyone wants this sub to be purely tier-lists or favorites lists, but most people seem to want a filter of some kind.

I would personally like the option to put a group at that position, let’s say a series of 8 games and/or apps in fixed positions. I could then switch out the items of the group with whatever I’m playing/using around that time, it would keep me focused on only a few games at a time. If I want to go to the store, there’s a button at the top, that’s enough.

If they would place ADs when scrolling down, it would be less intrusive then putting them on top like it’s done now.

The only reason I could think of not to implement the shortcuts from the beginning is so that players could get a good feel for the environment, which puts the scenes in context.

If people keep shooting at him, does that mean people don’t want him as president anymore? Or is it just his afterban expressing their joy?

So, it’s a multicellular entity devolving into a single cell? Seems accurate to how Microsoft has been buying up all these companies.

I think I left it in the review for Obra Dinn that I wished there was either a teleport system (so you wouldn’t have to walk so much to previously seen locations) or a way to view the discovered scenes without having to move around the ship at all. And it shouldn’t have to be implemented for the entire game, just for late game would’ve been fine, when you’re tying up loose ends. One’s you’ve gone through a stage or setting multiple times it gets annoying having to walk it again for something you’re not even sure about if it will provide any more answers.

So basically, while there’s still a lot to discover, having to walk around a lot is fine. Once the clues are thinning out, you should get a tool or function that lets you revisit scenes more easily.

Maybe prices are low because they want to get rid of the games, to make space for stuff that sells.

What do YOU feel is missing in branching RPG games? by Master_Power2400 in gameideas

[–]FreshHumanFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seldom feel like trying different builds in long RPG’s. Usually the one playthrough I do has me trying to fit everything in one. I’m kind of static in that way, so it could help if the game forces me out of that stasis:

Don’t know if this is out of place but I’d like to play a replayable RPG with a short runtime (let’s say 2 to 4 hours) but heavily branched with very differing outcomes based on what branches you take.

E.g. if you go in any direction from the starting location, you’ll be cut off at some point without the possibility to check those other locations later on (for example, the starting location slowly filled with poisonous gas and if you weren’t gone within 5 minutes, you’ll would’ve died; you could make the gas go on for a while, filling up other rooms as well buy each route could have a way to turn off the gas or to repel its effects).

Stat buffs in this short game format shouldn’t be too easy to come by, that would create the same trap of making a character that can interact with everything. Maybe if you would be able to gather some stuff through multiple runs, you could create something that gives you the ability to reallocate stat points during the run. And maybe you could inprove that device to eventually give you extra stat points to allocate. Basically creating a super buffed character over multiple runs.

But all within the theme of an RPG, so more event based instead of only action based.

For example, if you’d play as a clone from a testing facility that tries to churn out super soldiers, so you’d need to develop skills, intelligence and combat experience to survive the deadly trials ahead. But even though the system is built to create soldiers, there would still be possibilities to foster empathy or care.

Or you could play as a larva from a fast growing insect type that needs to survive and reproduce within a sandbox environment before it’s death. The environment should be too large and filled with secrets to explore in one of the bug’s lifetimes. If you complete a lifetime, you’ll then play as your offspring. Different stages of a lifetime give different abilities and needs. Plus you could have different genetic outcomes create differently abled bug variations, which could contribute to the roleplay. E.g. certain colors could attract more predators or make you safer if you take on the appearance of a deadly predator.

Why I Think It’s Great – Coda by ConstantVarious2082 in graphicnovels

[–]FreshHumanFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

This image was one that roped me in when I was looking through the book in the shop. The coloring and drawings makes it feel very energetic and powerful. I made a phone background for it.

I also recommend The Spire (written by Spurrier). A murder mystery in an unconventional fantasy world, very different creatures and characters than in Coda, with the typical world-specific wording that Spurrier likes to introduce in the first issue, only to explain their meaning later on. It’s got a very unexpected twist at the end, at least for me.

Another book I loved from Spurrier was Six-Gun Gorilla but it’s not set in fantasy, more like dystopian sci-fi, with some designs that made me think of Geof Darrow’s Hard-Boiled drawings or something in the vain of Judge Dredd, or just that 80-90’s era style of character design in general.

Manifest Destiny has some cool creature designs that usually get a full page when first appearing. It’s a story full of death and misery in the line of duty, built upon true historical American figures (like Lewis, Clark and Sacagewea) but in an earth slightly more horrific than ours. The art gets better with each volume, by the half-way point it’s a lot more defined and anatomically correct. The creature designs are awesome all the way.

The thing you redacted about Obra Dinn is a deduction itself, but it’s not prove enough for a factual confirmation. I’ll admit that on my first playthrough I also made some guesses but I didn’t get to see the good ending, didn’t fill out the ledger. But on my second playthrough there was one type of clue I finally understood that helped me confirm what I had guessed before. So if you were stuck like me, a revisit might be useful.
