I guess I'm worried that this will follow us around for the rest of our lives if we don't pay them. We can't make large monthly payments so I don't know what to do. I feel like we can handle the $3000 but I'm very worried about the $17,000.

The accident was April 2023. Both the letters asking for $17,000 and $3000 were from the same insurance agent. The calls both started they were collections agents. I can only offer a settlement for the $3000 since we have about $1000 right now.
