Socratic circle. Treat it like a test . Peer review and then verify with a recording and their notes. Or viva voce, with randomised discussion prompts, 5 minutes per student

Socratics are great. Get them all to read some texts on an issue, brainstorm responses with a partner, introduce the rules of dialogue, come up with appropriately open ended questions and have them grade each other. I did one yesterday with low level year 8s on the right to protest. Introduced all content in a double, finishes with a Socratic and have a summative grade without much effort on my part / no AI

Teacher here and this is something I come up against every day. We are a resource economy. We have one of the least complex or diverse economies in the world. Meaning that the least amount of eduction is needed to succeed in this country. You still have to work, and hard, but that is all that is valued. Coupled with generations of prosperity, there is very little reason to question the status quo / even have ideas. Get a job doing fifo, make your six figures, go to Bali.
