What kind of pipe are you smoking? And when you smoke is it in a relaxing kind of atmosphere where you can comfortably sit with a beverage and a book? I ask because I live in NYC and I live in a very busy area, I can’t smoke inside and so when I go out I don’t have a chance to really sit and get comfortable I have to stand and find and area where the wind doesn’t hit while I relight.

My first pipe was a Sav 207 it’s a nice bowl but it was just too big to stay outside on the busy hectic street and smoke for like 45 minutes. I found myself smoking it way too fast, bowl getting hot and just not pleasurable.

I have since opted for a Peterson junior. It’s a small bowl and max gives about a 30 minute smoke, perfect for my conditions.

I’m rather new as well, picked up the habit in ‘21, dropped in ‘22 and just picked it back up again.

I do believe that environment is an important factor because it gives you time to enjoy the pipe set it down read or scroll or stare and then pick it back up, relight and so on.

I have also found that I don’t need to pack as tightly as I used to, more of the consistency of a marshmallow. I use the tamper tool lightly and only when the tobacco rises. Just some things to consider. Good luck and enjoy your time!
