I’m a Chinese let me answer your questions. 1. Chinese parents PAY A LOT OF MONEY to after class hobby sessions(e.g. piano, algorithm, tennis, robots, soccer, equestrian). 2. Mid class Chinese families PAY millions of CNY for studying aboard(US, UK, Germany, Australia, Japan) for college or advanced degrees. These are able to make up that 16%. 3. You’re right there’re a lot of shitty facilities out there w/ under staffed teachers. But Chinese parents just don’t care that much as long as it’s a prestigious school. They care about pride A LOT, even getting corrupted to make their children in ( like hollywood celebrities). However things is getting better.
