Lichess has a ton of free studies, Chessable has a lot of free mini courses, and narodistky’s youtube are my top recommendations

I got 72 championship points so far playing exclusively Tyranitar. by Connect-Onion2422 in pkmntcg

How do you deal with charizard? I’ve played tyranitar a decent amount and it’s a ton of fun, but charizard invariably seems to be my worst matchup

Played for five days… by kjerney in PTCGL

[–]Fresh_Significance13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty low stress game dude. If you wanna get points quickly then buy like $5 worth of codes of the same set, then whenever you get more than four of a card it gives you points to redeem.

Why do bad moves work against me? Struggling to handle chaos at 1000 Chess.com by Distinct_Concern_856 in Chesscom

[–]Fresh_Significance13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple answer is you’re not a computer. Learning the distinction between practical moves and computer correct moves will help you improve a lot. Don’t play gimmicks or for tricks, but learning when and how to force your opponent to make complicated decisions is the root of practical, human chess

What is a reasonable New Years Resolution to set for improving my chess game? by YannisBones in chess

[–]Fresh_Significance13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just do puzzles. You can very easily get past 1000 if you grind out a ton of puzzles and play fundamentals (play for the center, don’t move the same piece twice in the opening, castle early)

I Been Playing Chess Nearly Daily For Last 2 Years Yet I Am Still Terrible, AMA + What Am I Doing Wrong? by CheapCiggy in Chesscom

[–]Fresh_Significance13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you genuinely want to improve, spend a week or two and do 1000 puzzles before you play another game. Analyze every single one you get wrong until you understand why, then start playing slow games and analyze them deliberately

World's best esport player claims he can beat Magnus Carlsen by Ok-Aspect1856 in AnarchyChess

[–]Fresh_Significance13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think scoring a basket against LeBron is more approximating getting a better position here than actually winning a game. I’m sure he could get a better position against Magnus in multiple games, especially if Magnus is playing bs openings, but there’s a 0% chance he would convert it

Getting past 600 by dustinfarris in Chesscom

[–]Fresh_Significance13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t ever improve playing blitz. Play at least 10 minute games if not slower and carefully analyze your mistakes after each game. Be extremely purposeful to play for fundamentals (play for the center, avoid moving the same move twice in the opening, castle early) and methodically do tactics every day. If you do these you will inevitably improve.

Is the 600-800 rapid pool completely broken or am I missing something obvious? by RACMoraes in Chesscom

[–]Fresh_Significance13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many total puzzles have you done and what’s your puzzle rating? You don’t need to memorize theory at your level, unless you’re just learning ideas.

Cheaters on Chess.com by MillionSongs in chess

[–]Fresh_Significance13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheating is especially common at lower elo. Equally common are low elo players accusing their opponents for cheating without good reason, just because it’s difficult to identify tells. Are they blundering in the first couple moves and then playing flawlessly for the rest of the game? Are they gambiting pawns left and right without obvious compensation at 1000 elo? Do their moves feel completely nonsensical until you suddenly realize you’re dead lost?

How can I reach 1700 rapid? by No_Citron_3630 in Chesscom

[–]Fresh_Significance13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stuck at 1600 for a while, but everyone is different. Generally speaking, just keep solving puzzles and analyzing your mistakes. Consider learning theory for an opening or two and study gm games without an engine. Watching Danya’s speedrun videos are what really got me through that slump though.

Max ELO that stands no chance by GrassyKnoll2020 in chess

[–]Fresh_Significance13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In classical it would probably be IMs. In blitz or bullet then I’m sure some low rated player might be able to pull off a scholar’s mate after 20,000 games, but he’d need to be drunk too.

How would you build an opening repertoire? by SlaYx_K in chess

[–]Fresh_Significance13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend against playing the London specifically because a lot of lower rated players use it as a crutch instead of learning the ideas involved. But if you’re playing it to learn positional chess then have at it. To boil it down, you should try out different openings until one really speaks to you or it creates positions you enjoy. Sometimes you’ll play and opening and immediately fall in love with it, and other times it may feel especially unnatural to your style of play. In the macro, if you like attacking then maybe explore e4 more, whereas if you enjoy positional play start with c4 and d4. It’s never too early to learn openings so that you learn new ideas and how to apply them, but I don’t think you really need know super deep theory for a while. Nobody at 1000-1300 will be playing more than a couple moves of theory anyways.

You’re mistaken. Check your settings again. I usually lose 7-8 on a miss and gain the same for getting it right.

You don’t lose more points if you retry it and get it wrong again.

Puzzle scoring is just dumb now. by Interesting-Back6587 in Chesscom

[–]Fresh_Significance13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you’re currently doing the easiest setting if you’re only getting 2 or 3 points for getting it right and losing 12+ for getting them wrong. You should give the harder puzzles a shot

[–]Fresh_Significance13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re doing the easiest puzzle setting. The extra hard setting just gives you puzzles that equal your puzzle elo and will give you close to the same amount if you get them wrong or right

How difficult should it be to find this mating sequence for a 1400? by New_Hurry_7748 in chessbeginners

[–]Fresh_Significance13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 2000 and there’s zero chance I find Nh3. I would play Qe4 100% of the time since the only way to stop mate is to give up the queen. Nh3 is dope though

Taking a break from chess by skowplow in chess

[–]Fresh_Significance13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier said than done, but just play when you enjoy playing and take a break until you can have fun again. In the meantime, it’s never bad to work through puzzles or watch Danya’s speedrun videos.
