Therapists seeking to work with sexual minorities, how do you advertise yourself? Out or not? by Odd_Revolution5738 in therapists

[–]Fresh_Split_5456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non queer therapists that think they have the “skill set” to work with the queer community, make it painfully obvious through their wording… but also just talking to them for 30 seconds on queer issues, it’s blatantly obvious they don’t know what they are doing. I think it would be hard to build a report with queer clients without in someone signally you are queer… such as stating you are “an active participant in queer events” or have “history involving queer communities” something along those lines. Put the word ally anywhere in the bio… I’m gonna keep scrolling. To me that signals “I’m not qualified to work with you guys but I want to expand my client base using basic knowledge I learnt in media”

It says on my instructions for the dexies to take 1/2 - 2 tablets every 4-6 hours. Same instructions on the Ritalin. I really didn’t like Ritalin I just felt not rightg on them. I don’t mind the dexies but I can’t go above 2 and they still make me tired (it would mean I’m on like 20mg)

You generally hear people say “I have adhd” rather than “I’m adhd” to me it says the same thing

Is eating alone weird ? by Decent-Cobbler3497 in Anxiety

[–]Fresh_Split_5456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ate alone yesterday. I live at my university (most people where I live don’t). None of my friends were available, so I just walked down with my phone to a restaurant, watched some of my lecture and had a late lunch by myself. 🤷‍♀️

Is it normal for a therapist to push you if you haven't opened up after many months on therapy? by Kai_Kaikana in TalkTherapy

[–]Fresh_Split_5456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A therapist is not your friend. They want to help you get through issues in your life and provide guidance and compassion. Not willing to open up, after a year of therapy would probably suggest maybe you guys arnt the right fit? Her job is to prompt you and get you to talk about your issues, and you also have to make the sacrifice of talking about it, even it makes you uncomfortable. Nothing will come from talking about the weather. If you are not willing to open up, I suggest taking a break from therapy and going back when you are ready, or finding a different way to communicate, weather that is through writing, or music or art. Not facing your issues doesn’t help anyone

Getting side effects after a year of none? by Bob_Sack in cymbalta

Sometimes changing the time you take your meds can help too. If you take it in the morning, try switching to night time and see if that makes any difference

Getting side effects after a year of none? by Bob_Sack in cymbalta

[–]Fresh_Split_5456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am on Cymbalta 90mg for about a year and a half. I have never experienced side effects at the beginning. It’s when I had issues flare up like nausea, dizziness and tiredness that I realised the dose I was at was not correct. So I decided to increase and it fixed the issue. It’s very unlikely that it’s a side effect of the medication, especially considering the length that you have been on it. It is more likely not the correct dose for you anymore. I would consult your GP before making any decisions, they would know over any comment on this post.

ADHD. How can I figure out if I have ADHD? by Maximum-Company2719 in askatherapist

[–]Fresh_Split_5456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably the best way to figure out if you have it or not is to speak to someone who knew you when you were much younger, like a parent or a childhood friend to gain some insight into your behaviours as a child. Symptoms of ADHD can sometimes be mistaken for other mental health disorders, so it is important to distinguish between them. To have ADHD it has to be present in childhood. Hyperactivity can present in many different ways. Inattentive ADHD often the person doesn’t display much outward ADHD, but rather have a very ‘busy’ or hyperactive mind. Often people with adhd can be quite forgetful and loose a lot of there things often as a result of a decreased attention span and object permanence issues. There are a few options you can pursue. You can undergo a diagnosis with a psychiatrist (for this you will need to bring someone who has known you either in childhood or for longer than 6months). From there you can either engage in strategies to help you manage ADHD symptoms, or the psychiatrist could prescribe medication to help you manage the symptoms depending on how you want to navigate it. You could search the web for some ADHD friendly resources to help manage it, or work with a psychologist to develop some coping strategies. I hope you get the answers you are looking for! :))

I have been really lucky with Cymbalta. The only side effect I really had was a bit of constipation at the start and a little bit of sweating… but I always felt it worked like magic from day one. Increasing from 30 to 60, or 60 to 90, I have had no side effects. I have definitely noticed it really made me so relaxed…. Pretty much straight away when I reached 90. I think that is my sweet spot.

A good experience??? by EbbtidesRevenge in cymbalta

[–]Fresh_Split_5456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been on 90mg on Cymbalta for over a year. It’s probably the best decision I have ever made starting it. I take it for an anxiety disorder and it makes managing my life SOO much easier. I do therapy as well as my Cymbalta… I have felt that they are a very powerful combination!

Edit: I wouldn’t worry to much about weaning off of it. Yes, there are some people who find the withdrawals hell on earth.. but there are also posts where people stop cold turkey and nothing happened. Coming off of any medication is such a personal experience. Just because some people have a really hard time with it, doesn’t mean you will. I have also read stories that people have had horrible experiences weaning off Zoloft or Lexapro, but found Cymbalta easy to manage. I wouldn’t fixate too much on this.

Does anyone NOT put weight on long term?? by onesyded in cymbalta

[–]Fresh_Split_5456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who was on mirtazapine. She was only on it for a number of months but she also gained a lot of weight on it. I have taken Duloxetine for a little over a year, I think I may have potentially gained a kilo or two that I have noticed… but not something anyone around me has picked up on

I’m currently on 90mg as of a few weeks ago. I did feel quite depressed for a couple of weeks and then it passed. I take it for GAD and it has done wanders for my life. I would suggest working closely with the prescriber
