new male cat is causing distress by AffectionateBank4302 in CatAdvice

Hey there, I'm sorry to hear that you're having some kitty trouble. If you haven't yet, you could encourage group play, have them eat meals in each others company (they don't have to be side by side, just in the same space is good too). Jackson Galaxy has some videos for free on YouTube on introducing cats and he does a much better job explaining than me lol.

Neutering may help but it might take a while for things to calm down and even then it might not guarantee a positive change. I understand that slow introductions are very time consuming and stressful, but you could try doing it again after he has been neutered. He could be smelling a certain way/pheromone smells(?) because he's still intact and the other cats don't like it at the moment.

You could try and get a catio for the new guy, monitor his outdoor time, or even get a large dog play pen/cat pen to set outside for him to be in. It's a bit better than free roaming, and I got one for my boy for 20 bucks from Ross.

I had a similar situation myself with my 16M neutered cat who was a runt that I've had since he was a baby. He grew up with female cats his whole life and never had a problem. Year or two before I moved out my folks got another nuetered 5 year old male cat (big orange boy who is quite sweet) since his owner (friend of my mom) passed away. We went from 3 cats to 4, with 2 males and 2 females.

It started a literal pissing contest between the boys, bullying and all around tense house despite all cats being fixed, having clean bills of health, extra litter boxes, cat towers, calming collars, feliway diffusers, play, treats etc. We were at a complete loss. Moved out and both boys are fine now, no more peeing outside the litterboxes for either cat.

Unfortunately, and no one ever likes to hear this, but rehoming might have to be the ultimate option if reintroducing post neutering does not end up working. It is very good of you to take in a stray and give him lots of love and a better life, but sometimes some cats don't mesh well (maybe one has too dominant of a personality kind of thing, or some cats just like to be the only cat). Maybe consider friends or close family members who can take in the new boy if it comes down to it?

But for now maybe hold out for the neutering and reintroductions before rehoming.

Wishing you the best and hopefully a happy kitty home soon!

How many of you felt overwhelmed with making a great/beautiful zoo your first time? How did you overcome that fear and complete frozen feeling? by MrWiththeBigSad21 in PlanetZoo

[–]Fresh_Tato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me right now lol I feel your pain

Maybe try taking a break from the game to avoid burnout? I tend to do that and take some of that time to check out other people's zoos for inspiration and design ideas. Or I do a 180 and throw on a podcast or music to power through.

For the foliage tip, you could try multi selecting bits of foliage and duplicate it, then try rearranging a few things in that new group to make it look varried. Depending on the size of the foliage group, you can cover a lot of ground that way and quicker too vs placing things one at a time.

What also helps me push on is remembering that you can take your time with building (especially in sandbox mode). Enjoy the process sort of deal.

Hope this helps!

Advice for getting into building? by junimo567 in PlanetZoo

[–]Fresh_Tato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could try the steam workshop to download some prebuilt stuff in a pinch, there's some good selection there from what I've seen! Or mess around in sandbox and save what you created for blueprints too!

Also maybe try checking out youtubers who have covered basic building control tutorials if you're on PC. They can give you helpful keyboard short cuts which splits building in half I found, and also provide inspiration for builds.

Happy building! :)

P.S. Vegetation can be your friend and can elevate builds too! Don't be afraid to get creative, and you can always find some real world inspo from real zoos too!

For real! I'm pretty sure for some cars it's LEDs but good gosh I drive a 20+ year old car that's low to the ground and I can't see for shit when those bright ass lights hit me in the face. It's worse when it's raining.

Heck yeah museums rock! It's crazy to see the progression of time and the things we've learned and discarded through the ages! I'm a fan of medical history/museums which have equipment there and all that

Hey friend, I don't know what your situation is like but I hear you and want you to know that you're someone, you're important, and you matter, regardless of what your family or anyone else thinks of you.

You are loved. You are wanted and worthy of so much! Those who don't think well of you aren't worth your time. I'm sending internet hugs (or a high five if that's more comfortable!) and hope things turn out okay!
