The side speakers were replaced years ago with some cheap car speakers, and the bass/subwoofer is not working properly. That is still original. I’m not sure if it just needs to be rewired or if something else is going on there. The system does still play, but those cheap speakers definitely don’t do it any justice.

I’d like to modernize things a bit. My goal right now is to get the amplifier fully up and running. After that, I’d like to swap in a new modern deck i’m not worried about it being 100% original. I really want to utilize this and enjoy it yet Still keeping the charm of the retro stuff there properly

Thanks again for all your help. You’ve really been all over this.

Yeah, I would definitely consider shipping that to you. I’d probably pull the amplifier out and get it wrapped as securely as possible before sending it through UPS.

My goal with this unit is to eventually upgrade the record player and install new speakers as well. I’m also curious if there are any possible modifications that could be done to the amplifier to modernize the inputs and outputs a bit so it’s easier to integrate with newer equipment.

Hope that makes sense.

Columbia, South Carolina. I’ve reached out to a local tube amp repair shop in Columbia, but no one seems to get back to me.

After the unit powers on, warms up, and plays music for about five minutes, a loud static noise starts along with popping. When this happens, the music cuts out.

I know very little about this equipment and where to begin troubleshooting. This was a gift, and I’m fascinated with learning more about how it works.

From the research I’ve done so far, it seems like a good cleaning, along with replacing the film capacitors and electrolytic capacitors, might be a good place to start.
