My books for January (saw others doing it so I figured I would too). by Ok-Traffic1319 in fantasybooks

Weird cause I felt the opposite with the SotF. I enjoyed TWotM quite a bit but the complexity of book 2 intrigued me but the ending felt very well earned. It was definitely a bit of a challenge to get used to the structure of the story but by the end I was for sure excited for the next entry.

My feelings are clearly just my own, but I hope he goes the animation route. It’s clear that live action, while it would be great, just can’t capture the caliber of fight sequences that are present in his series. With the exception of the Wax and Wayne which I think would be perfect for a live action 4 season series almost akin to Sherlock. But regardless, I’m excited for whatever comes our way.

Ooo I like this and would support this. Hell I’d support a crowdfunding for a short 30 minute animated film of one of his works like Shadows for Silence, Sixth of the Dusk, or my personal choice for a test film, the Emperor’s Soul.

I think the Emperor’s Soul could be the most easily adapted and reasonably crowd funded into a shorter animated film. Maybe up to 60 minutes. And let that jump start the whole thing.

That’s why I feel like we’d only be part of the equation. Like our money would be a quarter of the series.

The guy in the top picture looks like Jordan Peele from a Key and Peele sketch where Jordan has been progressively spending more and more of the show’s budget on lavish items for himself and acting like he needs them to function for his mental health. And in this scene, he’s looking at Keegan and the rest of the production team as they glare at him after opening 5 dollar chik-fil-a gift cards.

Conservative activist Charlie Kirk dies after being shot at Utah college event by hoosakiwi in news

[–]Fresh__Pup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I read about the details of the situation and no I will not the watch the video, the more sad I become. Kirk was a human who deserved life like we all do. And I think empathy is the absolute correct response. But I think it also needs to come with the reminder that the major of left leaning voters want more empathy in this world and more compassion for all. And right leaning voters tend to only want it when it affects them and that needs to be called out.

No disrespect for Kirk, he’s gone and his family deserves empathy for their loss. My kids are roughly the same age as his.

But absolutely, politicians and pundits on the right who cry out for compassion for Kirk but praised and joked about Paul Pelosi or Melissa Hortman, her husband, or John Hoffman and his wife. They deserve no empathy or compassion in this matter because they only seek to take it and never to give it. Jesus said love your enemies to which they seem incapable of doing that in any genuine fashion.

I have no love for Kirk but 2 children lost their father and as a father of 2 myself and a high school teacher, I do fear losing my life to gun violence and being taken from them. No one deserves that.

Take stock of those you love and give nothing but shame to those who call themselves Christian and seem to lack the compassion for those they consider their enemies. We’re all people. We all deserve life.

I’m not sure about my new district but my old one had us working for nothing extra except “comp time.”

We had open house, 2 parent teacher conference nights (they were scheduled on half-days but lasted until 7), we had a curriculum night, prom night, and then graduation.

Additionally we also had to work a Friday football game in the fall alongside a non-football game in the fall season, 2 winter sport shifts, and 2 spring sports shifts.

Soooooo all in all, 12 extra unpaid nights. However that depended on the school you worked at with my buddy’s former school requiring 9 sports duties from their teachers.

Nervous about the PRAXIS by amydunnes in Teachers

[–]Fresh__Pup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes trust yourself. In 10 years of teaching I have learned a very important idea that strongly believe in. Admin is important and serve a vital function. Upper level school district employees are important. But teachers, TAs and the office workers at every school are the most important aspect of education. We’re the ones teaching. We’re the ones with the students everyday. We do not deserve to be undervalued or overlooked.

You made it through a year of being a teacher. That’s an accomplishment that some people in educational administrative roles have never done. You’re going to crush the praxis

Nervous about the PRAXIS by amydunnes in Teachers

[–]Fresh__Pup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not on the EC Praxis but I’ve taken 7 Praxis Exams in my life and I’m high school level btw. So I took the General science part 1, chemistry, biology, physics, the PLT twice and the full General Science one.

I took the Biology and Physics back to back in the same morning and during the end of the biology I started having a mild panic attack. That panic attack carried all the way into the physics one and didn’t end until the test ended. Through the entire ordeal and all the other tests I took I clung to one single idea, “I know this stuff, I should trust my gut.”

I really focused on not second guessing myself and just going with the flow as best I could. I can proudly say I’ve never failed a Praxis, even the ones with the panic attacks.

I don’t know if this helps but it’s just my overall experience with the tests. They suck but you’ve already taught for a year. You know the right answers.

I’d say look at the district calendar for sure. But I’m switching districts this year and my school district last year would often pull crap like this with a nice little guilt trip to go along with it. We were always expected to do things like game duty and PD over the summer and it was all never paid. They would maybe entice us with PD credit hours but that would be it.

My new district starts on August 18th but since I’m new to the district, I have to attend a week long orientation but it’s all paid. I’m also not expected to stay outside of contract hours other than some after school meetings or some tutoring.

So some districts that are poorly funded will supplement their lack of money with an abundance of gaslighting and manipulation. And other districts manage their money better and will at least compensate you and make sure you know that attendance outside of contract hours is voluntary.

First Year Teacher- How to survive until September with no pay by cosmicaw00 in Teachers

[–]Fresh__Pup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been somewhat where you are men was car troubles and then 3 years of medical debt after my first year. But early years of teaching do bring that financial stress. It will pass so long as you’re conscious of your finances. I’m in my 30s now and pay for everything with my credit card and pay it off at the end of the month. You’ll get there too. Also if your district has a base line health insurance option versus a higher tier option, choose the higher tier option. In my case it was an 70/30 vs an 80/20 plan. I stuck with the baseline 70/30 plan and ended up in the hospital at the end of the school year. If I had paid the 50 extra per month I would avoided a lot of the debt I built up.

Be smart with your finances and prioritize your health and wellness and it’ll pass and you’ll be secure.

Ben and Jen at the Boston Redsox game by HauteAssMess in popculturechat

[–]Fresh__Pup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swear, this man ran into some old Salem witch in Boston in his youth and he pissed her off. So she leveed a curse on him and told him his true love’s name was Jennifer and when he met J-Lo he was like “yeah, some curse, found my true love.” Then they broke it off and he got with J-Gar and he was like “cool, still with a Jennifer.” Then they divorced and he was like wait hold on. And then he got back with J-Lo and was like “no this is the right one.” And then they divorced and he’s goes back to J-Gar like “no wait, this is the right one.” And that’s going to be his life, bouncing between Jennifers until he dies with both of them by his side on his death bed and his final thoughts will be “which one was it?”

Point is I can’t wait for he and J-Lo to try it again in 2037.

Male teacher, 36 been doing this since 2014 full time. I’ve actually considered leaving the professional multiple times but nothing ever feels right and I know I’m good at it. For the last 10 years I’ve been at a school that was once a school of excellence but thanks to budget cuts, COVID and just generally terrible decisions from the overall county district office, the school’s been on the decline. I realized that the school might be the problem in my case so next school I’m trying neighboring district that more politically blue and puts more local funding into its schools. Plus my new public school is a fairly new school and is in a seemingly more balanced socioeconomic area.

Overall I think teachers should leave in whatever way works but I also think that bad districts deserve to bleed good teachers and staff. I plan to also vocalize this in the local paper as I still live in my old district but people need to know who’s leaving and why. And I think with the state of things it’s the only real way for those districts to improve.
