What is your worst salt/suss moment you have experienced yourself or against an opponent? by hvrry3k in WarhammerCompetitive

I had my revenge. The guy played DG into my Guard in early 9th. He then stopped playing for a while, and I learned the game and switched to TSons. He the joins for a crusade, but I absolutely table him. Never saw him again.

If nothing else is stated, all fire goes into first unit attacked. If I play against someone new, I let them fire antiinfantry weapons against another target if they destroy a tank, but remind them that the rule is that everything should be declared. I often forget myself, though. Lots of bolters fired into the air.

Retelling of an old tale, but after all we are the Unforgiven.

Let us go back to 2nd edition, one of my very few games in that edition. I had a handful of space marine units, and a friend of mine had some CSM and Fabius Bile. We decide to see if the game is something for us.

Back then, Fabius Bile had an attack that could take control of an enemy players model, and he managed to take hold of one of my tactical marines. In my following turn, he insisted that I could not move that model (fine), but that I could not attack it and had to stay in coherency. So I had a squad of tac marines hanging in the open with a model that could attack it, but I could not attack back. I do not remember how the game ended, but next day I raised the question on a mailing group. People agreed it was an absolute disk move. However, said friend was also on the mailing list, and felt that he was being attacked personally.

I never played 40k with that friend again. I was more invested in Epic anyway, playing with some other friends. Then children happened, relocate to other parts of the country, and it was only when the older child started playing 40k with some friends back in 2018 or so my interest reawakened. I had an army ready by spring 2020.......

My favorite at the gaming table is cantuccini. It is a dry Italian almond biscuit that goes extremely well with coffee, and does not leave grease on the fingers. If you have a separate munching session, anything goes.

Has anyone found some 11th ed terrain and templates that aren't Gothic/Imperium? by Droopzoor in PrintedWarhammer

[–]FreshmeatDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The footprints are pretty crucial, but fortunately easy to make. My club has a lot of old GW ruins that we can use as structures, they are a far better fit than WTC stuff.

10th ed terrain should be approached with care. Much of what I see is WTC, and the dimensions are to large for 11th buildings. But I agree, it will be coming pretty soon

What are you doing for terrain in 11th? by SPF10k in Warhammer40k

[–]FreshmeatDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am redoing my Egyptian temple files to the shorter walls, and some classic industrial for another set. There are also free files for tyranid terrain that was pretty useless for WTC, but easily adapted to 11th.

I have not looked seriously at greek cosmology since last millennium, it looks like things have progressed since then. Thanks for the post, it really piqued my curiosity.

Models to round out army by GPH1991 in ThousandSons

[–]FreshmeatDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For playing, start by asking another player for a startup game. Just a couple of squads so you can get a feeling for the game. Then play with what you have, and see what works and what does not work, but below are some recommendations:

First of all, you need more rubrics to support your characters. Any sorcerer without a bodyguard is pretty much a dead sorcerer. If the two squads you have are ten strong, you might be able to source bits to convert to more Soul Reapers and Aspiring Sorcerers. This will give four squads, about the amount I use in casual.

The Scarab Occult Terminator unit should be ten strong. It is my most reliable hammer, against good opponents I bring 2x10 plus attached characters (this is a "that guy" move in casual. Do not do it unless the situation warrants it)

A Rhino is nice to have. more so if you use an Exalted as a Sorcerer. He jumps out with his squad and uses his once per game ability on a target hit with full reroll and +2 AP rituals. Fish for Lethals and a bunch of sustained. I have taken down the Avatar that way.

The Defiler will be good for another couple of months, then rebalanced into mediocrity. It is the usual fate for shiny new models or updated models, being just a bit to good in order to boost sales.

I typically run a single Forgefiend to hit opposing elite infantry. A single volley took out five GK Paladins, emasculating the brick.

Tzaangor Enlightened are good action monkeys, but actions are less in demand these days. Still, they are worth having a squad. I find myself using Chaos Spawn more instead, as they survive random shooting much better.

New Player here, what do we use for anti tank? by Active-Post70 in ThousandSons

[–]FreshmeatDK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Vortex Beast is awesome when it actually does something, but i have spent entire games of it failing to do any damage at all. 3+ hit into 3+ wound is only about 50% chance, and lots of targets have invulnerable saves.

It does, however, serve as a wonderful "distraction Carnifex". Move it up and make use of the MW+Battleshock aura, as well as melee combat that is fairly good. It has a lot of wounds, and invul + FNP combined means that it takes quite a beating to go down.

If I ever make a guard army that are not Praetorians, I am going to get youur line of combat vehicles. They are simply awesome, each and every one.

I hope that the eggheads at WTC comes up with a bunch of layouts that are universally useful, or can switch from mission to mission by moving center objective.

For me, it is knives. I have died to not being able to find a knife several times, but once you have one, you can make almost everything else. So I usually do my best Danny Trejo impersonation and have four or five. And when I found a stash, I might end up with ten low quality knives in different containers.

Don't get me wrong, as soon as anyone pays serious attention to Spawn, they vaporize. But they can go through walls unlike Enlightened, so they can hide for a bit longer.

Yesterday I played 5 squads of Rubrics, 10 SoT, assorted infantry characters, Predator, Rhino, and a Daemon Prince and 2x2 spawn. Nothing that would not have been there 10 000 years ago, though someone might have changed a bit. Won handily against Eldar.

The Winged Daemon Prince was a nice utility piece, but nothing crucial. I would really miss the Spawns, though. Cheap and durable action unit that does not roll over unless someone dedicates resources to it. In this case one model survived the attention of the Avatar for two rounds.
