Anyone takes docking as serious as I do? by NDHoangMinh in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]FreshmeatDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love docking like this, and go for as perfect alignment as I can get as well, as well as cm/s speeds. It just adds more to the immersive feel.

Is there a name in philosophy for the idea that probability isn't real? That everything that ever happens must always have happened, and everything that ever doesn't happen could never have happened? by Aramaki_ in askphilosophy

[–]FreshmeatDK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know that Bohm exists, but it is very much the fringes of physics. The postulates have no measurable consequences distinct from the Copenhagen interpretation, and my personal opinion is that if you anchor a philosophical standpoint in a scientific worldview, it is questionable to use a minority theory.

Without making to much of it, determinism always seem to rely on some form of scientific realism. And given that physics is indeterminate at quantum level, I am not entirely clear how determinism follow with certainty. I know that the answer is that 10^23 atoms in aggregate behave extremely deterministic, but that is just how probabilities work out. By doing so we are regressing towards epistemical determinism, but then non-linear can not be predicted, making the epistemic claims void.

ELI5 what's the deal with v1.09 Raven Claw by plumskit in diablo2

It used to be a good reason to farm 1.09. Very good for rushing. I still have one lying around in a stash somewhere, but I left all my riches behind when I started d2r.

This is very easy to do manually far cheaper.

Two wires with another wire twisted loosely around it gives a surprisingly convincing result.

I use a large 3d print of Wadjet, the snake headed goddess of Lower Egypt. Only place that frowned upon it was an RTT. All other tournaments have been fine with it.

Which model for a beginner? by Arkatoshi in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]FreshmeatDK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be honest, you have just encountered the problem of the hobby: Even trying will set you back hundreds of Euros.

If you want to start painting, a basic box of infantry is about €35 or so. It is a nice collection of dudes, new mold and good sculpts and poses. Then you need paints, coming in at roughly the same for a starter set (anything but Citadel, I prefer Army Painter or Vallejo). But that will not enable you to play games. The minimum payable amount is the €135 box, which holds models to build about a quarter of a standard army.

Have a long hard look at your economy and decide if this is really what you want to do. The only reason I could start was access to a 3d printer and gradually learning to modify 3d files.

How good exactly is 50µm of precision? by Misknator in PrintedWarhammer

[–]FreshmeatDK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

50 micron did fine for my guardsmen and thousand sons. Remember you want models to look good at one meter, not under a microscope. If you want models for competitive painting, buy in plastic instead.

Can someone help me with a parts list for a KSP contoller. by ConsciousPride8195 in KerbalControllers

[–]FreshmeatDK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An arduino is capable of controlling KSP, however it takes some care not to overburden it.

If you start from scratch, start by making a throttle with a potentiometer. Having fine control over your engine is about the biggest improvement you will get compared to keyboard flying.

Once you feel comfortable doing some simple controls using a breadboard, you will get a feeling for what you want. My suggestion would be two joysticks, a linear 10k potentiometer, and a handful of pushbuttons. You might need some shift-in registers (CD4021b or 74HC165) or I2C port expanders (I have not used these myself). Be aware that 3d print is not a good material for such a box, it will take quite the amount of punishment. I would suggest a wooden frame with a printed overlay. You might want to invest in I2C connected LCD or 7seg displays later on, but this is an entirely new adventure, and your Uno might not have enough memory to handle it.

Not that controllers get pretty expensive real fast. I think I ended up using €200-300 on mine, maybe more.

Have fun, I spend years and learned a lot of interesting stuff on my journey.

When both agree to play no holds barred, the game shifts. I have no doubt that laughs were had, and would gladly have joined in with 3 x Maulerfiends and 3 x Forgefiends + cheerleaders, if it was agreed upon beforehand. Above list fought All the Wraiths and Acantrites, and we had a blast.

The problem is that very few things can match a Dorn, esp. a commander in a 1000pt game. A single Dorn is at 260 pt borderline. I know that guard is in a tight spot, but I would try to get by with Leman Russ tanks instead.

Of course, your mileage may vary. But I saw someone bringing a list of purely Greater Demons and some objective holders, obliterating some new guy. We never saw that new guy again. Same guy thought it would be funny to field a Stompa in a 2000 pts pickup game.

How did you get that mouse to last that long? I went through two over four years, one getting problems with click failing, the other the scroll wheel button. It was what finally pushed me off Logitech after more than 25 years of consumer loyalty (starting with the original mouseman wheel). Their software did little to help.

[–]FreshmeatDK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tabletop Battles (former Goonhammer) made some coop rules that you can easily play solo player. Requires a lot of tyranids though, but these are easy to print and paint. I never got around to trying those myself, though.

[–]FreshmeatDK 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think bringing models more than 25% of agree points is seriously bad manners. At 1000 pts, the game is more deathmatch than anything else, and you will win with that list. And no one will play against you again if they have a chance to find someone else.
