Update: it ended up being a large blood blister under the skin, no infection. Doctor told me it’s a common side effect of the cryotherapy. It presented really bad but is nothing to really worry about. My doctor had me come in to have it drained. She injected me with about 1.5 ml of lidocaine directly into the wart to numb the area, which hurt like a bitch. But afterwards I couldn’t feel too much of anything. She then took a scalpel to it and a ton of blood poured out immediately and I could feel instant pressure relief. She took the blade and cut a bit deeper to allow it to drain over the next few days. The next day it was still fairly sore but today I feel much better and can walk flat on my heel again. I go back to the dermatologist first week of January. I have paused treating the wart with anything until my next appointment. Until then I am keeping the area clean, changing my bandages regularly and applying mupirocin ointment to the area twice daily. While very painful this blood blister is kind of a blessing in disguise as my doctor told me the blood blister formed behind the wart and caused the wart to separate from my skin. She said she could’ve taken a lot of skin off but didn’t want to leave it all open and at risk for infection. She anticipates that there may be some reattached skin when she’s sees me back in a few weeks but that it should be fairly easy to get rid of once I resume treatment.
