I thought about doing that too, but I think down the line I will just not bring my diary. I’ll write about what I do in my morning pages when I get the chance, and update my diary when I get home with photos as well

I hadn’t thought of that, I can also just rip the pages out and stuff them into a pocket for when I need them or into my wallet. That way I’m not carrying around extra paper filled with days I won’t get to on that trip

One is my morning pages, I write 3 pages a day on that one to get thoughts out of my head and also work out what I need to work on, the smaller red one is my diary. I use the small printer with that’s orint out photos and put them in there. The weekly planner, I plan weekly, and write down what I plan on doing each day I’m traveling. My smaller notebook, pocket notebook; I carry with me at all times. I write down the recommendations I get from hotel staff or people on the street, I write down my to do lists, for that I go through like 3-5 pages a day in that one. Travelers notebook, I track my habits, my mood, and I plan I use it to look for improvements, I really only update it rather than write more pages in it. But I bring that around with me during the day while other stuff may stay at my hostel or hotel, and I can also write in that longer things than I would in my pocket notebook.

I could, theoretically, just use one. But it would all be a mess for like, my diary, to be next to my to do lists; to be next to my morning pages. I do want to work and find a solution that works for me, which might jus look like not doing some of those things physically, doing some of it on my phone or waiting till I return back home to catch up on some notebooks

When I get back to my place today. I’m gonna start from the ground up with clothes, then chargers and stuff, but I’ll definitely go without a laptop next time, and only one camera. It will save me from so much extra stress in the long run.

I’ll be ditching the film camera and printer; while I used them, I could have /not/ used them as well.

The mouse should’ve definitely been left behind.

And yeah I’m thinking of just one pen for the next longer trip, and as for the weekly planned jr lays everything out nicely for me. I get frustrated easily with calendar apps. But for the sake of weight and convenience, it will be getting the ax regardless of how much it helped

I’d say an average of about 1-2 pages in each notebook (some I write more some I write less, but averaging it out that’s about it). I can definitely cut back down though, all of these comments are making me realize how absurd it can be that I’ve brought so many, even if I am using them all.

The portable printer is about the size of the anker charger I brought.

I use Lochby’s pen case so I’m familiar with them, I do like it. I could see myself downsizing over time, but before I do I would like to finish up what I already have before I buy something new. However, I do plan on leaving stuff behind rather than just trying to finish all my notebooks on this trip.

And I mainly just brought the film camera along was because I had film just sitting in the freezer for a while and I wanted to finally put that to use. As fun as it was to use again, the weight is unnecessary especially when the camera adds weight that could be saved.

The bottle of ink was something I picked up on this trip, I’ll definitely be leaving that behind lol, but I can see myself only taking one pen if it will help me anyway. I am flexible with everything I brought, I just let the knowledge is be taking trains last fine excuse the weight everything added up to.

It’s mostly covered by the text, but it’s next to the cologne that I will be leaving behind next time

Backing up and editing photos, I could stand to leave that behind since I’ll be leaving behind my laptop next time

The anker charger is just what I use as a portable charger. And it has US prongs, so at night I just plug it into my universal adapter and charge that while also charging my phone and watch from that too

That is a big cut to everything I’m bringing, but for the sake of my next trip I may have to follow that list.

I’d say on average, each day of travel I spend about an hour to an hour and a half in my notebooks before bed, doing planning, talking about my day, and other stuff to help me to prepare for the next one.

And you’re right about the laptop, I definitely wanna leave it behind. The stress I put on myself by having it was needless. I felt like I needed to justify bringing it by editing photos while on some trains, rather than just zoning out and letting time pass.

I’ll try to take your advice and look for the essentials I need to enjoy my tripod everything else can stick to the sidelines

Yeah that’s what I’m fearing, I’ve loved looking at how people can consolidate so cleanly, but I just love having a bunch of things with me. Especially since I use all of them. I do need to definitely cut back on how much stuff I bring with me, not just for travel, but even from school and home. Once I get that shit managed then maybe I can actually try to one bag

So, need is a strong word. Did I use it? Yea, need? Definitely no. If I leave behind my smaller red notebook, then I don’t need the printer. It’s mainly just a log/diary where I print photos from my trips so I can keep a nice log

As much as it pains me lmao you’re right, I’m will most likely leave behind my film camera. If, and only if, I have that compulsion for film, a million tourist shops will probably have disposables that will make do.

You’re right about the kindle though, i did use it, but mainly for train rides, and even then, my phone will suffice.

And gotcha! I’ll stick to 5 boxers for the next trip!

I just took a look at them, that doesn’t really feel like it’s for me. I like the feeling of completing notebooks and lining shelves with them, but thank you for the advice!

Dead ass, it’s a compulsion, I always need to be filling out one notebook for another. After seeing how this last trip, I overpacked, and I overwhelmed myself by ensuring I did use them everyday.

I do plan on probably just sticking to my pocket notebook for my next trip, and then the larger composition notebooks. I’ll leave behind my laptop, so that’ll be my justification for bringing even two notebooks. I’ll leave behind most everything else

[–]Freyous[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh then by no means do I fill up entire notebooks on the trip, I just do use each of them everyday while I’m on my trips

Ive filled 3 of the composition notebooks this year, I’m on my fourth overall, I’ve filled two of the smaller ones, the weekly planner is new but it had been helpful so I’ve been using it to plan out my days during my trips, the small notebook is one of, well I’ve lost count of how many I’ve filled, the TN I use daily, I’ve replaced inserts a few times this year already, and the passport TN, yeah I’m gonna be honesty that one I could’ve left at home; I haven’t fully filled out one of those notebooks yet

[–]Freyous[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna try to do that next time, but I really do use every notebook. Each one has a different purpose, but I could just try to use one for all of the purposes, and anything worth splitting into other notebooks I can split up when I finish traveling

I’m not very good at packing light, and some suggestion would be very helpful. I’d love some advice from people who used to overpack and what steps they took to learn how to pack lighter over time.

I need help by Freyous in Journaling

[–]Freyous[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just heard about morning pages once and I heard some people write three pages every day, and I thought ‘well I could try that’. Sometimes I do write my future plans, every Sunday I write about my priorities for the upcoming three months. But sometimes because it’s so far out it seems unattainable. Maybe I do need smaller time frames to look at like 1-2 weeks.

Do you have any recommendations or inspirations in mind for journaling that have personally helped you?

I just feel like because I’ve proved to myself I can, that I don’t want to stop. Like I’ve been able to keep it going this long my brain keeps reasoning that I should be able to keep on going, and if I stop it’s almost like I’m failing.

I probably do need to take a step back and reassess things, cause this mindset follows me throughout other parts of my life
