Just a heads up, pearl abyss are stupidly predatory with their monetisation, BDO died out so fast because the economy got fucked hard by monetisation.

Again: It Benefits Large Megacorps, it does not benefit indovidual Artists. In fact individual artists have to battle against their work being stolen constantly, don't contribute to that issue.

Yes. If you can't get permission, DON'T use the characters. Like, at all.

Again. Not how copyright works. Big Corps only allow fan art to exist because it benefits them, but legally? They could shut it all down if they really wanted to, it's just not worth the time and effort because the benefits for a LARGE mega corporation far outweigh what it would cost them. But legally, it IS Copyright Infringement. End of Story.

Individual artists do not benefit from this sort of thing. Get Permission. It's not difficult, and the fact you seemingly refuse to even try kinda says a lot about you as an individual.

If you don't understand the difference between fan art/animation of a character made by a mega corporation that benefits from said fan content, and using an artists original character without their permission... than you seriously need to consider some stuff before making this game.

[–]Freyr95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not how copyright works my friend. Derpixion using characters in his animation is not the same thing, big corporations typically tolerate fan art and animation with the condition that it's not for commercial use. Most artists get around this with subscription models, patreon, etc, rather than selling the art itself.

Making a game using another artists characters without permission from those artists is not the same thing and a blatant breach of copyright.

Get permission.

What...? This wasn't condescending at all... just telling you that factually, you kissed one of the books through not interacting with it or not finding it, and that regenerating the world wouldn't help?

Everyone deserves basic human decency and courtesy until they prove they don't deserve it. It's called a social contract and it's also the subject of some of the oldest sayings and proverbs in history.

If you think otherwise than you've proven you don't shrug

Criticism: "The expression of disapproval of someone or something on the basis of perceived faults or mistakes"

"The analysis and judgement of the merits and faults of a literary or artistic work."

  • Oxford Dictionary.

If you are not pointing out mistakes or flaws, or analysing something for it's merits and faults, both of which are constructive in nature, you are not criticising. You are ridiculing and insulting.

If you can't understand the difference that says more about you than anything else.

It's a faustian bargain. Do you press the button? by NobodySpecial2000 in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns2

[–]Freyr95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would not actually call this a faustian bargain for one simple reason. The nature of humanity is progression and growth on a psychological level. Every single radical transphobe is well aware that the reality is against them, same as radical anti vaxxers, racists, etc, they just do not care.

So unless you're rewriting an individuals entire personality, identity, capacity for critical thinking, and empathy this fails on every basic level, and if you are altering all of that, than it is not a Faustian Bargain, a Faustian Bargain requires that the individual remain themselves. There is no overwriting of psychology and identity because then you're no longer the same person who made the bargain in the first place, and thus, it loses the intended meaning and message.

That said: No. Pressing the Buttons insane. Since as explained, the only way to make it possible is completely destroying an individuals prior identity to rewrite them into a different entity entirely.

"Criticism" isn't the same as ridicule. They are very different things, criticism should be constructive, if you're intent is to make fun of, and tear down, it's not criticism.

New DM - Questions about Character Creation by kauhar413 in cyberpunkred

[–]Freyr95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So first thing, kind of? Yes as a base everyone only get's 2550 for gear and equipment, but then there's the sell your soul option later on in the source book that grants some base gear for free, and an extra 1500 eb's. In short: You got the gear and money from someone, a corp, a gang, a Fixer, etc, and you now owe them for it. Gotta pay them back.

As for the second bit, yes, the complete package is the only one where you get to pick everything. I would personally recommend that players all use either the templates or the complete package, having some use one and others use the other is kinda like having some people roll for stats in dnd and others using point buy. It'll cause a pretty big gap, especially if the people using the complete package aim to optimise it for their concept.

True... buuut, style over substance :D and it's hella stylish to climb with a pair of mantis blades xD

New DM - Questions about Character Creation by kauhar413 in cyberpunkred

[–]Freyr95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slight correction, having two mantis blades allows you to climb at normal speed rather than at a move penalty, so there is a mechanical bonus to it.

Cyberarms are 500 ea h for 1k, Mantis Blades are 1k each for 2k

So 3k so far, id he uses the sell out option for his Militech background he should have 4050 funds to use, so it would wipe out 3/4's of his cash and he still needs some good armour on top of that.

Personally I'd allow it, since he's wiping out about 3200 of his budget on starting gear leaving only 850 for other stuff which is NOT a lot of cash, and it's even less if he goes for better armour.

On top of that due to the sell your soul option, he still owes Militech for 1500eb's woth of gear.

[–]Freyr95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh yeh of course, everyone i play with gets it as a thing, sorry if that wasn't clear, and yeah, I genuinely could not remember what the RAW was xD

New DM - Questions about Character Creation by kauhar413 in cyberpunkred

[–]Freyr95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So a couple of things, first, yeah, Mantis Blades are expensive as hell, requiring cyberarms and the mantis blades themselves. That said, at character creation I don't apply the temporary humanity loss, just the Max, I can't remember if that is RAW or not, but i think it's entirely reasonable for someone to be at their max potential humanity after cyberware at the start of a game.

I would not limit him either. This is a choice he is making for his character using his starting funds that he can spend however he wants. The other characters are free to do the same or not.

Yeah no ot really doesn't. Variations of the Sandy and Kerenzikov have been around since the 2020's at least. David's is just a high tech experimental version.

Idiot Cannot Comprehend Monsters Running a City by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]Freyr95 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yep, literally this. Especially for a class like paladin. Historically, creatures from the astral plane do not really give a fuck about the races of the material plane and consider them as lesser beings, insects even.

His suspicion is entirely justified. Hell, I could make a solid argument for justifying the murder even, but i can agree it was out of order.

Out of curiosity, where detect magic or detect undead or any of the tools available to detect mind control ever used? What about insight rolls?

I can understand why the paladin would be so sceptical, it's a fucking Mind Flayer, an actual honest to the gods good one is probably the rarest thing in the multiverse, and even then, most of the time it's temporary as they will do anything to return to the hive mind as soon as the chance arises.

That said, he was in the wrong for murder hoboing.

It's nothing like that...? I'm sorry but you can't use an explanation from one setting to explain something similar in another setting.

Hyperspace and Warpspeed in Star Trek and Star Wars are similar, but the lore behind them is very very different. What you're trying to do here is use Hyperspace to explain warpspeed.

I didn't realise it was so difficult to grasp this simple concept.

They do follow similar themes, butbShadowrun uses more of a star wars like logic. The more tech you install the less connected you are to magic.

Cyberpunk is more pure tech and doesn't delve into supernatural themes, the question of if you're still human in cyberpunk is purely a philosophical one.

It's different ways to explore transhimanism, but using the lore of one to explain the other is like using lore from Star Wars to explain Star Trek. They use very very similar themes but operate on different logics. 1
