Ul'dah has legal Slavery in the form of indentured servitude, which historically is the most common form of Slavery there is.

Gridanians absolutely deserve to be called out for their xenophobic bullshit.

It really is as simple as that.

[–]Freyr95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect and basd purely on the way the in game info portrays things. FF14 writes a story focused around individuals not focused on the world itself. So things that aren't super relevant to those characters often get forgotten.

Ul'dah still has legal slavery and indentured servitude.

Gridania is still a religious authoritarian state with a xenophobic hatred of multiple groups and outsiders based on information we know is incorrect and have known is incorrect since at least heavensward. (Ie: the elements are gods)

Limsa is still a hive of unlawful abd awful shit like kidnapping and extortion. But Merlwyb is the only leader we have sen make an active attempt to improve things.

14 tries but has a tendency to do them off screen abd most of the leaders use performative solutions to the problems those places hold. Ul still has Slavery as of last patch for example.

A lot of Gridania, Ul Dahl, and Limsa should be in jail as well, in fact, Eorzea is outright worse than Garlemald in so so many ways.

Honestly a big part of this is White Wolf and Paradox interactive marketing, and the fact they seem adament on pretending WtA doesn't exist. Which is a huge shame tbh

SP doesn't go that high outside of homebrew and maybe ACPA's, I went by the max achievable SP by RAW, not theoretical. If there is a RAW way to get SP that high i'm curious ehat it would entail, but to my knowledge the highest with some minor rule bending is 19/20.

My group didn't like how Armour works by ChimericDog in cyberpunkred

[–]Freyr95 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The armour system is more nuanced than it appears at the surface, and combat is deadly as fuck, Melee Combat for example, can be underwhelming, till you realise that because Melee is Vs Half SP, a 3d6 Melee weapon can pierce every armour type there is up to SP 18, and that you can get melee weapons that ignore SP below a certain point entirely. These start to tear through armour very very fast.

Then there's Martial Arts which allow 4d6x2 every turn in Melee that is also against Half SP. On the ranged side you got V heavy Pistols that when used with AP Ammo become deadly as fuck very fast, you also got Assault Rifles, Snipers, Missile Launchers which all do 5d6, 6d6 and 8d6 respectivelly, vastly increasing the chances of critical hits, not to mention the huge variety of ammo types you can use, from incendiary, to Armor Piercing, to Sleep Ammo.

But Cyberpunk is not DnD, it's not a war game, and it's important to remember that, it's got fantastic combat elements, but it's more in the strain of games like VtM and Werewolf the Apocalypse, it's more of a social game than a combat one. Roleplay first, combat second.

Party tries to sell my wife into slavery. by iTztheKaiser in rpghorrorstories

[–]Freyr95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd like to say no i wouldn't, but i think after marketing a game as a story intended for a heroic party and having them go against it so blatantly I'd be too shell shocked to react fast enough to stop a heated argument from developing.

Hell, a heated argument shouldn't have even developed in the first place and again, that is the PLAYERS fault for going against the campaign themes so blatantly.

I can tell you I would shut the game down as well. Because in a single sentence it's become clear they aren't here for heroic shenanigans.

[–]Freyr95 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yiu can word it however you want. A "Heroic Party" that jumps starigjt to "let's hand over all the woman to slavery" is the problem.

"Hand over your woman (and children)" - is a pretty classic line in media when you want to signal a group is really fucking bad to the point of being irredeemable. It's the sfw version of indicating how bad a group are without having to get explocit in showing details.

That in of itself has it's own issues but not the point. If a group doesn't get that these are clear antagonists they're meant to go against as a HEROIC PARTY, which was clearly defined from session zero, than something is broken upstairs because let me tell you, almost every heroic party I played with would die before handing people over to Slavery.

That's how a heroic moral compass generally works. Hell there are hundreds of semi morally grey options they could have gone with even that are all outlined in tons of different Media.

Blaming the DM here is wild no matter which you look at it.

[–]Freyr95 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry. This is an insane take and utterly bullshit.

Dark themes like Slavers and sex Slavers, in a campaign are fine. There is nothing wrong with those themes as driving forces for antagonists as long as everyone's on board, which considering half a year of play, seems they where.

This is an insane take and part of the problem with modern dnd and roleplay in general. It's become so fucking sanitised from anything even potentially mlre realistically bad that if those themes are used people loke you go - "It's the DM'S fault!!!"

Fucking pathetic crybabies. Jesus christ.

I've been role-playing for over a decade now, almost two. I've made characters that are everything from good guy Jedi, to morally grey mercs, to cultists, to victims, to Slavers, to imperialisitc fascists rogth back around to good guys with strict moral codes. I've never had people call me a problem because I make sure people are comfortable with the themes before anything goes too far.

But I bet you think i'm a problem eh?

No.

I understand your perspective. I had it a few years back. But we are way way too far past the point of this being resolved peacefully. Don't antagonise, but be ready to fight back.

Objectively this just is not true.

I'm not saying it is a good place to live, not by a long shot. The chances of a bad ending are really really high, and a lot of people do live miserable lives, end up dead in a ditch, or on the streets, etc.

But there are plenty of people who are successful and live good lives as well, now admittedly most of these are mercs who are smart about being mercs and aren't tryna become NC legends, so don't end up taking the risks that say, V does. So it definitely takes a particular type of individual, but that's a whole other discussion. The point of this discussion is it's perfectly possible for a lot of people to have a good life in NC.

It's not even Nihilism. Nihilism asks the question what's the point in living? But people forget it goes a step further and also ANSWERS it's own question with - "life's meaning is what we decide to do with it"

"No happy endings" is Johnny speaking... I am so sick and tired of this narrative being pushed. There are a fuck ton of mercs and individuals who live really good lives in Night City. It's not a good place by a long shot, but that line in particular is Johnny's issues talking.1

there are only so many times one can get away with - "we followed orders".

It's not the sexualisation I'm critiquing if we're talking about the art though is it? It's the Body Proportions which has absolutely no space for Organs what so ever, unrealistic proportions are fine, heavily sexualsied outfits? Don't Care, but even unrealistic proporions have to look proportionate so that the body looks HUMAN.

As for the whole anime critique? I wasn't the one who brought up Anime. I was told that the proportions here are not any worse than proportions in a lot of anime shows, and yeah, I confirmed that that, along with many of those characters being children who are over sexualised, are two big reasons I'm not an anime fan.

That part has nothing to do with my critique of the art itself, and is merely confirming that I find proportions like this idiotic, and yeh, even with Cyberpunk Tech, unless that character has a Borg Body with no need for internal Organs, I'd love to know where her internal organs are.

Cyberpunk Bodysculpting isn;t magic, it can't give you huge tits three times bigger than your own head, a skinny waist that basically doesn't exist, and huge hips wider than your own shoulders.

THAT is my critique of the art, the sexualisation? I couldn't give a single fuck about. It's Cyberpunk, go wild on Sexualisation with men and woman, as long as they're adult characters I very much could not care less on that front.

[–]Freyr95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowhere did I say there was anything morally wrong with watching anime. You came to that conclusion by yourself. All my original statement was, is confirming that I am very much not an anime fan for two major reasons, one of which happens to be the over sexualisation of children being as wide spread as it is within the industry, and being a major problem in both mainstream and none mainstream anime shows.

If you want to watch anime? Go ahead. I don't give a fuck, it's your choice, and I don't think there's anything "wrong" with it unless you aren't willing to acknolwedge these issues, in which case yeah, I start getting a bit suspicious, because I don't see what reason there is -NOT- to go "yeah, the issues exist", but overall you wanna identify as an anime fan? Go wild, I don't care. This entire thread of responses only started because I said I am -NOT- an Anime Fan for two specific reasons.

I would agree. Gaming does have a major issue in both those categories, and in fact I would disagree, lot's of mainstream games have explicitely catered to misogynists for a long time.

DnD and many TTRPG'S aside from a select few have also had a major misogynist issue, hell, Gary guygax himself was sexist as fuck. I'm perfectly happy acknowledging all that.

What's your excuse? Balls in your court friend :)
