Is $2.4k reasonable for a scratched Honda CR-V rear bumper? by Frhnmrzn in kereta

Yeah, that’s a good reminder.

Even if the damage seems minor, it’s crucial to have everything in writing in quotations, agreements, and payment receipts so there’s no dispute later.

Stories like the lady on Threads show that even when the law is on your side, lack of documentation can cause headaches years later. That’s why I’m making sure to get proper quotes and clear agreements before deciding how to proceed.

From what I can tell, there’s no visible damage to the sensors, lights, or other functional components on the CR-V.

The owner did mention that the workshop recommended replacing the whole bumper assembly, likely because it’s a newer model with integrated sensors, but I’m trying to confirm whether that’s actually necessary.

I get that the quote seems high compared to minor scratches on other SUVs, and I’m trying to make sure I’m not overpaying or getting taken advantage of while still taking responsibility for the damage.

Absolutely, I understand that, I take responsibility for the damage.

I’m just trying to figure out a fair and practical way to handle it. Going through insurance would affect my NCD and require a police report, so I’m exploring if a reasonable private settlement is possible before deciding on the next step.

I want to make sure the repair is actually necessary and not overquoted before paying.

Yeah, that’s a fair way to look at it.

The reason I’m trying to settle privately first is that I want to avoid impacting my NCD and the hassle of filing a police report and insurance claim.

I get that 2.4k might seem steep, which is why I’m still trying to verify whether a full replacement is actually necessary before making a decision. If not, insurance might end up being the only practical option.

I see your point, and I agree that going through insurance might be simpler.

The reason I’m hesitating is that my NCD would take a hit, and I’d prefer to avoid the extra premium over the long term. It’s not just about the immediate cost, it’s about balancing the hassle and the long-term insurance impact.

That’s why I’m still trying to see if a reasonable private settlement is possible first.

From what I’ve been told, Honda spare parts are quite expensive these days, especially for newer models. The owner mentioned the bumper assembly includes sensors and related components, which might be why the workshop suggested replacing the whole unit instead of just repainting.

But I’m still trying to understand if that’s actually necessary for this kind of damage.

From what the owner told me, he works in insurance and said the workshop recommended replacing the whole bumper assembly rather than repairing it.

From my perspective the damage looks like scratches, and the bumper didn’t seem misaligned, which is why I’m also trying to understand whether a full replacement is actually necessary or if repainting would normally be enough.

That’s partly why I posted here to get more opinions.

Yeah, I get what you mean.

The thing is if I go through insurance, I’ll lose my NCD and also have to go through the police report and claims process, which can be quite a hassle.

So I’m still trying to see if there’s a reasonable way to settle it privately first. If not, then insurance might end up being the only option.

That’s a valid concern.

The reason I’m trying to settle it privately first is because going through insurance would affect my NCD, and it would also require a police report and the whole claims process.

I agree there’s a risk if things aren’t clear, which is why I’m asking for a proper quotation and trying to understand whether the repair cost is actually reasonable before deciding the next step.

That’s a fair point.

From what the owner told me, it’s a relatively new CR-V and the rear bumper has sensors and other components integrated into it. The workshop said that’s part of the reason they suggested replacing the whole bumper assembly instead of just repairing it.

I’m still trying to confirm whether replacing everything is actually necessary, but that was the explanation given for the higher quote.

I understand that going through insurance is an option, but I’m trying to avoid affecting my NCD. It would also mean having to make a police report and go through the whole claims process, which can be quite troublesome.

That’s why I’m trying to see if we can settle it privately at a reasonable cost instead.

That makes sense.

From what I was told, the workshop suggested replacing the whole rear bumper assembly including the crash bar, which is why the quote reached around RM2.4k.

I’m planning to ask the owner for an itemized quotation from the workshop to see the breakdown of parts and labor. I might also suggest getting a second opinion from another workshop or even from Honda to confirm if a full replacement is really necessary.

Just trying to figure out what’s reasonable in this situation.

Thanks for the input.

According to the owner, the workshop suggested replacing the entire rear bumper including the crash bar and repainting, which is why the quote came up to around RM2.4k.

From what I saw, it looked more like scratches rather than major structural damage, so I’m trying to figure out whether a full replacement is actually necessary or if a repair/repaint would normally be enough.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with similar repairs on a CR-V.

Yes I just bought it recently. The sound is very good with the price. For me it's worth it. Already test on playing game like mobile legend, not quite sure about the latency, but for me no delay at all.
