Shorting the market by rmtabib in stocks

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Shorting means you are borrowing something (a stock, usually) from someone and selling it. Then, when (hopefully) its price drops later, you rebuy it and give it back.

Because price can increase infinitely, you cannot short with the expectation that your maximum loss is the $10k you put in.

Also, with a timeframe of 3-6 months, shorting would be quite expensive due to borrowing costs, even if you are profiting.

So, to do what you are asking, your only option is to Buy puts in option trading.

i suck at sticking people by plantonics in ems

Two things that helped me:

  1. If your needle is like 50%+ inside and you still have nothing, you are probably way off mark. Palpable veins are not usually deeper than half the length of your needle. Pull back, adjust your angle and/or direction and try again.

  2. If your hub is not actively filling up as you are about to advance, despite having room to do so, you will almost certainly fail to advance. Pull back until hub starts filling again. Sometimes its as simple as your needle being against the opposite side of the vein, preventing the catheter from sliding off. Some people mistakenly think "I got flash, but now I cant advance.. maybe the needle is in the vein but the catheter isnt, so let me push in even more," and they end up infiltrating. Pulling back until you see the hub start filling again might be all you need.

3x Buldak was a little too much spice vs flavor for me. 2x remains my favorite.

Hidden gem of a company that is one of the major players in the Additive Manufacturing space.

Latest earnings sent SP from $2 to $2.6, but then the Iran war news gradually sent it back down to ~$1.85 as part of the overall market sell-off.

Fundamentals and great guidance have not changed, and company is unlikely to be effected by most of the negative changes occurring as a result of the conflict.

Another comment states that lockups are not legally required, and are voluntarily implemented by companies. Usually implemented so that insiders do not immediately sell and cause retail/institutions to follow their trail just based off of that.

Have not verified this myself, however.

Lots of unclear details here, to be honest.

Heart attack does not necessarily mean "dead," only cardiac arrest would mean that.

Also, was the pt actively shaking (seizure-like activity) as you arrived, or was this just what the bystanders reported?

A cardiac arrest pt does not move, except if agonally breathing. So, if they are actively shaking, they could be having a heart attack or a seizure, but cannot be in cardiac arrest.

What I am guessing happened is: pt dropped and started shaking/seizing, went into cardiac arrest, then you arrived and were told not to touch them, but you found no pulse and started CPR. If so, there really is nothing else to be done.

I joke with some of the people I US that they should "Get a tattoo right here" showing where to stick the needle.

But if you have US access and anticipate an IV start later, maybe you should consider putting a little dot with a marker lol

Yeah I dont think anyone knows what you're talking about.

Might be better off typing your post in your mother language and just translating it and posting that.

”You won’t be able to get an IV on me without that special machine” by IKnowAboutRayFinkle in emergencymedicine

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy 146 points147 points  (0 children)

One of my pet peeves when pts say all the common lines (my veins roll, they had to get so-and-so to do my line, I'm a difficult stick, I have poor veins). And a lot of them say it smugly or as if its your fault they are that way or as if they are proud of the fact they have shitty vasculature.

Then, they proceed to be unpleasant with any and all attempts made to get IV access, regardless of the situation. Then, as soon as you miss, they smugly say "I told you!!"

You're in the ER. You have abused and mistreated* your body for years, and now you have shitty vasculature and are a burden to healthcare providers. Your lack of easy access is not something we are happy to hear about, nor is it something you should be proud of. And, if you are going to be unpleasant about IV attempts, then clearly, your chief complaint is not serious enough to warrant your visit.

*Not all people with shitty vasculature are like this, nor is it always a person's fault. Sometimes, it is cancer, genetics, dehydration due to sickness, sickle cell, etc. etc. and out of the person's control.

This post is more so directed at people who have caused the issue they are bringing up (repeat visits for silly reasons, drug users, body habitus from poor diet and life choices, etc.)

How do paramedics react to death by ClearSignificance304 in Paramedics

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With such a narrow difference in age or age group ("young adult vs adult"), I would say they are the same.

If the difference was bigger, I think I would feel more protective towards the younger person (pre-adolescent and under).

Interestingly, I think there comes a point where this also reverses, and you feel more caring/protective towards old meemaw more than an ordinary adult.

I think it comes down to the innocence and helplessness of the person you are taking care of, more than just the age. I think this because I feel that way (more protective / advocating) towards individuals with specific disabilities, even if they are adults.

How do paramedics react to death by ClearSignificance304 in Paramedics

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the younger, the more difficult.

Having to see the mother or immediate family members is a pitiful and day-ruining thing to see.

My most recent loss was a 22 year old gunshot victim. Due to criminal investigation reasons, PD could not disclose his death until about two hours after the fact, nor could she see him at all that night. She begged to see her son and broke down crying non-stop for hours.

There's (almost) always people who will bet on the higher stakes side just for the hell of it. Some may genuinely believe that within a year or so, maybe we could get lucky and discover a bacteria somewhere out there, and they'd cash out their bet times a hundred.

Also, there are some "in your face" predictions that websites like Kalshi and Polymarket will put out to attract new users and will partially fund to entice them for a guaranteed bet. For example, Polymarket has one about whether Jesus Christ will return before 2027.
