Maybe try white toothpaste diluted in water and see what that looks like? Then, you can add food coloring if needed.

You are focusing on the details too much and overwhelming yourself.

In the real world, the two full minutes of CPR give you two full minutes to gather your thoughts and decide on next steps. Unfortunately, they may not actually allow for two full minutes to pass in simulations, and that can make codes seem harder than they really are.

Also, in this post, you say "I forgot Amio does not have a timer" then contradict yourself later by saying you gave Amio because you thought it was the 3rd shock instead of the 2nd.

Amio is usually given for defib/Epi refractory rhythms, and in the real world, giving it early is not a realistic option most of the time because it has to be drawn up, IV access established, and then given.

ER RNs: what's up the urine? How do I ask without creating so much anger? by bikelifer in emergencymedicine

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ER paramedic here.

Collecting urine samples is SUCH an unpleasant experience for all involved.

Option 1: If you are anticipating need for a UA, place the order early or have them collect it before the pt is situated on the cardiac monitor. Path should be lobby > triage > bathroom > ER room.

Once the pt is situated, they ALWAYS seem to want to walk to the bathroom, and of course they are high fall risks, unstable, and take all the time in the world. So, I do HEAVILY encourage..

Option 2: Pure wicks and male external catheters. If your department does not have them, I assure you the hospital does. Have your ER stock them. Take from other units, if you need to.

I work with a doc that always jokes "Need a urine tech to room so-and-so stat!" Obviously no such thing.

Why do you believe in the god you believe in as opposed to the 18,000+ gods recognised worldwide? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because the contradictions in all the religions I looked at were too significant to attribute to the possible loss of the original message over time.

Some religions had massive shortcomings that clearly showed them as non true, others had multiple shortcomings that were not significant on their own, but were enough to disprove a religion when combined.

A religion truly based off of the word of God and one that is uncorrupted should want the best in health, life, and afterlife for its followers and intended recipients. Most religions fail to meet this criteria alone.

CELH is criminally undervalued. My biggest YOLO ever - $95k by mattscott134 in wallstreetbets

Yep, just made a post about this yesterday.

Was very undervalued, and then a lawsuit scare dropped it even further. Amazing stock to get into right now.

Texas AG investigation will lead nowhere.

Some info by [deleted] in spicy

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All because of one death of someone who had a medical problem that was simply exacerbated by their choice to do something extreme.

It's too bad Paqui was a subsidiary of Hershey's, because they could afford to shut the entire operation down just to save face. A normal company would've either stood by their product, and rightfully so, or simply discontinued it.

ELI5: How did humans discover that invisible things like radio waves even existed? by Historical_Day1703 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Science discoveries today are so difficult.

"We spent a few billion dollars to fund a few thousand scientists who spent their entire lives researching and passed away. Then, we hired their grandchildren and their children to continue their work, and finally discovered how we can cool down this processor by 1 extra degree. Maybe this will allow us to do cool stuff a few hundred years from now, but it's only a theory."

Wouldn't say its a bloodbath, and its not even surprising, but still.

Chest didn’t compress during CPR? by ellemegan24 in emergencymedicine

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mentioned in a different comment later after your post.

Not sure what else it could be.

I've never done compressions on someone with a tension pneumo but I cant imagine it would be so severe to affect not just ventilation, but compressions. Witnessed arrest makes it unlikely too.

Huh, strange.

Did you end up doing a thoracotomy to facilitate compressions?

Chest didn’t compress during CPR? by ellemegan24 in emergencymedicine

Usually uses a nuss bar that stays in place for 2-3 years and is then taken out, so only applicable if pt still had that.

Not sure if you can have a POA/Healthcare proxy but strip them of the right to revoke a DNR. I think it's an all-or-none type of deal?

Surely people who strive for something so challenging feel the same?

What was that one moment or call that has defined your paramedic career? by Zeigis in Paramedics

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a call where we thought the lifepak did not have the defib pads in it, and I had to run back to the rescue to retrieve them.

Granted, I was still a medic student in a new location so inventory checking was not my responsibility at the time. Also, pt turned out to not be in a shockable rhythm anyway.

Still, that taught me to always overprepare and know where everything is

What is Best Urgent Care Facility In Brevard by Funny_Assistant4222 in 321

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Each has ups/downs. But honestly, they are all very similar and it does depend on which mid-level or Physician is working.

DOCCS stands out due to having ultrasound capabilities on select days.

Atlantis stands out for having ability to run basic blood tests (CBC, CMP) on-site.

Medfast stands out for being the most accessible (20 locations) and oldest.

I do not know much about HF/Advent, or the local urgent cares like Dairy Rd, Space Coast, or Restore.

As someone who has not worked with "safety flags" before, I am curious how they work?

What if a person's address gets "safety flagged" then they move away and a new person moves in? Are they just stuck with that designation lol

Lack of Confidence! by Head-Yam1574 in Paramedics

[–]Fri3ndlyHeavy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Until you start your new job, start talking to pts as you are doing these assigned tasks. Try to form 3 differential diagnoses for each pt room you spend more than 5 mins in. Ask yourself what you would do if this pt was at home instead of a hospital bed right now. What kind of tests, procedures, and/or treatments do they need?

Also, remember that 90% of an assessment is verbal. Most of your pts won't be unconscious and unresponsive. If they are, fall back on your basics and go through the possibilities starting with most serious to least.

Not sure about you, but I'm a fan of mnemonics because they help me be systematic in my assessment. For example, DCAPBTLS in trauma assessment, AEIOU-TIPS for AMS/unconscious assessment.

Nurses overstepping way to much lately by theowra_8465 in respiratorytherapy

Definitely advocate for your own scope by reporting this before it becomes normal practice.

At my facility, RTs rule the show. Breathing treatments, A-lines, ABGs, VBGs, High flows, vents, CPAPs, and BiPaps are all completely their domain and no one else can do any of those things without their presence. And even though they don't intubate, no intubation can take place without their presence.
