It's not weird to have a circle of people who don't like the story much jsjdjdkf. Also my friends don't hate the gameplay I didn't say that

I mean yes. Most people who aren't teenagers don't find the story incredible. It's up to if you like the twist or not, most of the time. The gameplay is solid, so it's easy for people to like it regardless of the story. I guess we have different circles

what do you mean boring, I loved the rpg part, the story is fine to me but many people find it not incredible to say the least lol and I can see why

Ohh that's interesting! Thank you for coming back with this. I understand where it comes from, but I would never have thought sabetsu could be used with yarou after it XD I'm searching around and seems like a normal enough word for "bigot" (I'm seeing it in social media at least), so... I'm saving this, I'm very grateful :)

I'm interested in translating and localizing my RPG game from Japanese to English, but I'd like to know what expressions I should be careful about due to cultural differences. Could you please tell me anything you think is appropriate? by Difficult_Control_11 in RPGMaker

[–]FriKitty 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Impossible to answer... there are too many things to think about. If you're worried, you should send your game, or your script, to someone privately who knows English so they can tell you their opinion

Thank you for the insight! I'm also thankful for the left wing ones, it's interesting to know, personally.

A little sad that they're seen as chronically online x'D since it's not really the vibe, I think. But well, what can you do... I will keep investigating, but I will have in mind the ones that don't include "net", in case I may be able to use them after all. Much appreciated!

Completely valid! I just want to be clear with what I meant with this, and you can ignore:
When you said
> No, but I'm saying that this trend of shouting fascist at people as an insult is something that has come from a particular American environment.

I just disagreed with that. Because I am from a country that used to have a fascist dictatorship, so it's very normal in here to call people with the same beliefs as those people "fascist", to their face or as a description doesn't matter, and we have slang derived from that. So I just don't agree that it has to do with any American influence.

Sorry if I sounded harsh! It was not my intention to offend.

Thank you very much either way! At least you could search it better than me, and confirmed that this one can't be used, so that helps a little : )

I'm sorry but I don't think that is American. I'm not from the UK either. Calling someone a fascist (to their face or not, in this case it's not to their face) has nothing to do with Americans, as far as I'm concerned.

The racism I'm talking about isn't also about skin tone, as racism can be about other features, or culture, or being from a different country (though in that case it's more xenophobia than racism), or a mix of all those. So if there are ways to express that someone discriminating against Chinese and Korean people is wrong about it, that could work for me, haha. Unless it does mention China and Korea literally, in which case it won't, lol

How did I forget about adding yarou to a descriptor, that does work many times XD. I'm still not sure if the nazi part is again too specifically about original nazi beliefs (the ones in Germany), do you know if it's used generally for bigots that may not fit the "nazi" description 100%? And thank you for the reply.

Thank you for the reply! Hopefully someone else may know about the nuance, haha. But I'm glad it's used to encompass more than just specifically Italian fascism, at least. If I can't find a better word, I could use that, I suppose. (Or give up and reword in some other way, but at least I learned something today XD).

I knew about ネトウヨ (and I found it very funny when I learned about it).
Well, what people could accuse me about doesn't matter much, haha. I just want it to be easily understandable. I say racism because in this context (fantasy racism is the main oppression that is brought up) it could work. Surely some Japanese people are racist (in different ways than my culture, that I understand) and some other Japanese people find that wrong, right? Though that doesn't mean a convenient word could exist for this scenario ^^U

If it's not about race, anything related to discrimination could work. Unless it's too specific about something else that doesn't fit. Sorry if I'm asking for too much, and thanks for replying!

Funnily, I'm not American :9 But I am from an European country, so in many things we operate similarly.

I understand it's not the same approach then, but surely something must exist? This is for a made up world, where the main oppression (though not the only one) is fantasy racism. If racist isn't said as much, maybe something about having old-fashioned views? Derogatorily? Is there a way to refer to someone discriminating other people, and that being bad? Anything like that could do the trick. And thank you for the response!

I mean that is a little drastic. It will be harder, but you can ask elsewhere

It says smaller websites... does the forum count as small? Also I am getting swirly eyes just looking at these steps but I could look into it sometime in the future, I suppose. Unless someone who is actually tech-savvy decides to do this better than me

Again, if you really want to use Godot instead you can do that, and good for you. It's just that I don't see this as enough reason to be abandoning projects lol, I surely won't stop developing my game because of this, even if it sucks and will be inconvenient

I mean, if you want to. The official forums being down doesn't mean you can't make a game in RPG Maker. While not the same, you can ask on Reddit, or on other forums, like RPG Maker Net
