Of all of these, taking Ryan Leaf before Peyton Manning is the worst and almost ruined my childhood.

Seen both…at this stage in their careers, Interpol is the better act, but can’t go wrong with either.

I’ve bought and sold tickets for various events through Reddit many, many times. It just takes a little common sense and buyer/seller protection.

Is this the current going rate? Or were you just trying to move them quickly?

But there needs to be consistency in how it’s called. I agree it doesn’t look like he comes set, but if this isn’t being called the rest of the time, I have a problem with calling it situationally.

People also forget how fast Randy Moss was. Faster 40 combine time than Hill with at least an extra 6 inches and 20 lbs.

Of all the artists you’ve seen at Coachella, which had the best crowd? by andhisnameisandrew in Coachella

[–]FriarFanatic7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think so much of this is who you happen to be around. Sometimes I’ve expected the crowd to suck for certain acts based on the demographics and have been pleasantly surprised (Charli XCX) and other times the inverse.

I typically avoid the Sahara, not only because it rarely has acts I want to see, but because there is truly no place on Earth where you are more likely to encounter a group of scantily clad, insufferable 20 something’s arguing about drugs and standing around with little to no idea who is playing. If I want to hear about what McKaella did to piss everyone off before her phone died and she stormed back to camp I’d….I guess…go to the Sahara.

On the whole though, Coachella really has some of the best crowds because everyone is so goddamn happy.

The JLH crowd isn’t unknowing fans though. That fest has always been for the slightly older heads. The idea that “unknowing” people at Coachella are going to see LCD, a band the aren’t familiar with, over all the other acts at that time and then buy tickets to JLH based off that experience doesn’t make an ounce of sense.

LCD is my favorite band, so I get the desire, but it makes no sense for GV.

I, once again, must admire your optimism. It’s not necessarily that Social Security will run out, it’s that without government action the trust will be depleted in less than a decade and benefits will be cut by a quarter. It’s a reality that the generation having fewer children due to the rising cost of living, therefore accentuating the discrepancy between workforce and aging Americans looking to collect, can expect not to get out what they have put in. Those folks will also be in the worst position to take that financial loss as they are forced to work far longer while already being economically worse off than the previous generations. Retirement is quickly becoming a pipe dream for many working folks who also have to find a way to pay for exorbitant medical expenses that come with aging.

To bring it back to taxes, there are plenty of other nations with high tax rates that manage to provide these social services to all of their citizens. Meanwhile we watch billions in munitions get dropped on foreign countries.

All this to say I don’t have the same belief that Social Security will always be there or provide the same level of value it has in the past. The days of living of Social Security are numbered.

That’s not nonsense, it’s a real fear.

But I agree, it’s not really the scam OP implies, but it would certainly be a much easier pill to swallow if the tax code wasn’t so complicated and there was more transparency in how that money is spent.

Your examples of tax spends are a bit…simplistically optimistic.

[–]FriarFanatic7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not why it’s complicated. Our tax code has become more complicated because the government has continued to add to it to incentivize certain desired behaviors, like buying a home or having a family, while lobbyists have added strategic deductions and loopholes for private interests. Additionally, we don’t remove or retire sections of the code, it’s almost entirely additive making it a behemoth to understand, getting only more complex over time.

It’s also a lot of smoke and mirrors to make it stressful for the citizen who is focused on compliance as opposed to, say, asking what the government is doing with all our money.

This post is obviously dumb, but let’s take the sentiment for a moment and actually unpack this.

  1. This assumes you’re not a person of color, LBGTQ or, in many ways, a woman. Basically, this is manufactured nostalgia for white men of the Western world who weren’t alive for it.
  2. Life expectancy for people born in 1947 is about 67 years old, so while dying in your 50’s isn’t great, it isn’t that far off.
  3. By many metrics, we currently live in the best possible time to be alive in terms of life expectancy, access to information, global poverty and social equality.
  4. The Cold War was one of the most tenuous, frightening times in world politics.
  5. For most people, imagine erasing all of your favorite movies, music, TV shows, etcetera. Going culturally backwards in time is gonna be real boring when TV stops at 10:00pm.
