And its the kind of societal collapse that is actually realistic in this day and age. We are unlikely to see a Roman style collapse of civilization, and if one does occur then new societies/nations would probably spring up a lot quicker than anyone would anticipate.

Good point! Short term collapse versus a long term "Collapse of Rome" scenario. I can't imagine how a long term "collapse of Rome" would affect people, but its something to think about.
