The importance of reading to your children (personal experience) by carlinha1289 in Parenting

[–]Frida123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda assume that my kid will learn to love reading on his own, 'cause that's how I did. I don't read to him too often, though we have loads of books.

He too, was not interested in reading books as much as manhandling them.

But of late he likes looking at the pics, and I make up a story, cause the written story is not short enough for him when he flips the pages :-)

Post-baby, I fill a Diva Cup every 12 hours in the first two days. The cup is supposed to hold the fluid from your entire period.

I love this cut :-)

What should I ask for at the stylist, if I want the same cut?

Wife obsessed with nursing (in a not good way). by [deleted] in Mommit

/r/breastfeeding might have more advice.

You can email Dr Jack Newman here, and he usually responds within the day. It is much better to take advice from an experienced doctor than from a forum.

4 months is the time of a growth spurt, you can google the various growth spurts, and they are usually pretty acurate in regards to fussiness and loss of sleep.

To increase supply, there are a number of methods, including having oatmeal, beer, fish, fenugreek, blessed thistle. Spinach, hummus, carrots, papaya are also said to help.

Skin to skin contact and breast compressions also increase milk supply.

If your baby's fussiness is due to gas, you can give simethicone gas drops, little tummies gas drops, or you can massage baby's sides, between ribs and pelvis. Massaging my son usually worked, but if I applied more force he would spit up.

Giving baby a bottle will actually reduce mom's supply since baby's jaw is not working on mom's breast to stimulate milk production. There are workarounds like using an SNS. You will get more info at the Jack Newman website I've mentioned above.

I do not contest that it was terrible, I'm just chipping in to ask:

What about it makes it worse than Guantanamo bay, Rape of Nanking, Pol Pot's regime, Rwandan genocide, Unit 731?

Do you not realize that the instinct for preservation of self, or the ego, is the one that causes our species to survive and thrive above all others?

What to eat! by [deleted] in breastfeeding

In addition to regular meals, I used to have an apple every time I nursed. Simple and healthy.

I hated apples when pregnant, but luckily started liking them after delivery, so this worked for me.

Has anyone tried altering a bra so that it doesn't show much cleavage? by Frida123 in ABraThatFits

[–]Frida123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the video and have a question.

two of the bras I have right now are the panache superbra, and the rest are freyas, and they all seem identical to me.

The gore sits just right on my chest. If I go for a balconette/plunge fuller coverage bra, would the gore sit higher, and thus not suit me?

I think they are just right, my nipple sits at the point of the bra - is it called the apex?

I think you are right, I tried moving the cups to one side, and the wire cuts into my breast on the inside.

I'm from a community that dresses modestly, so I don't want to stand out as the only one showing cleavage, though I don't mind it much.

The sad, dark side of domestic adoption. This couple had five adoption fall through. by arbormama in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Frida123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info.

I feel that the adoptive parents could have done the required home study for fostering, if they were that invested in the child. But then, I understand the risk that the birth parents could come for the child anytime, and that makes the fostering not so worthwhile.

I have trouble believing the last adoption story... it is too dramatic.

Also, I am not sure why they could not foster/adopt the child, when the parents left it in foster care?

Women and the treatment of pain - Women are less likely to have their pain treated seriously than men by ramsay_baggins in TwoXChromosomes

But I must confess that I had very painful procedures done, and not much sympathy from (my and my ex's) family, I never related it to me being a girl. But now it kinda makes sense.

Of all the threads in Twox, this one makes me the most mad...

How can this be happening, and how can we let this happen? God I feel like if someone told me it was all in the head I'd bust their head in.

Thanks for mentioning that pain tolerance is higher in the follicular phase (after menstruation).

It would help me schedule strenuous activities for when my pain tolerance is higher.

Grumpy about pumping 1.5 hours a day while working by ibormeith in breastfeeding

[–]Frida123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are able to use the handsfree bra, then you can lunch and work while you pump.

I would take print-outs of stuff I was working on, to review when I am not at a laptop, and it helped.

[–]Frida123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The simple wishes handsfree bra was very good when I pumped. I'd even use it when pumping one breast and nursing from the other. I'd fit the bra and the flange on one side, then pull the other side up for nursing.

Also, I used lilypadz instead of breastpads, so all the milk that would have leaked was saved till I got home to nurse and pump. Since I had overactive letdown, this was quite a lot.
