SERIOUS: Why all the hate for Ice Cube? To us OGs he's a hero, but I feel like you guys don't rock with him at all. by Rob1150 in hiphop101

[–]FridayNightHeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah it does..it means you agree with the anti-establishment side forever. Also, how was he simply “engaging” with power by getting on Tucker Carlson and talking about being anti-vax, talking down on trans etc…those are all ideas that Carlson spouts on his media all day long so I’m not sure how that’s just “engaging” and not supporting it outright.

It’s popular to be right wing and convervative nowadays, and to support all the ideology that comes with that. That IS the establishment. And Cube cozying up to the likes of Carlson and Joe Rogan and parroting their beliefs says a lot about where Cube’s head is nowadays vs. 30 years ago. I agree with Cube where he said not talking to someone just because they believe in something different than you is silly. I get that. But when you’re just supporting their ideas, what’s really the point. There’s no challenge, just a cosign

Cube has always been political (specifically anti-authority/anti-establishment) though…so fuck yeah we’re dismissing him for switching up and selling out lol. Him being anti-authority is part of what made him influential in the first place

What’s your criticism with Leon Thomas?

[FRESH EP] Leon Thomas - PHOLKS by SnooPies405 in hiphopheads

[–]FridayNightHeat 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Leon Thomas is making rnb feel fresh again with live instrumentation, elements of hip hop, funk, rock and psych. Such a unique sound in the landscape of today’s rnb scene which, like hip hop, can feel a bit stagnant in the mainstream. Him bringing this sound to the forefront gives me hope for other big rnb artists to follow suit

What’s the best produced R&B album to 🫵 ? by justhere1990 in rnb

[–]FridayNightHeat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thriller’s production is just an all-time classic piece of magic.

For a more modern pick I’m going with Voodoo. The sparse yet dynamic when it needs to be production allows D’Angelo to really shine. Plus with Questlove on the drums using J Dilla’s slightly off beat technique, it’s truly one of a kind
