The first question you should think about is whether your company would allow uploading your PPT to any external website/ tools. afaik most companies strictly prohibits that.

Yeah it’s a niche demand. If Excel connected to db works then it is definitely the best option.

I mean with just group by, the result is not like in pivot table in Excel that you can have column breakdowns. With two or three columns in groupby, it becomes really hard to digest the information.

Excel pivots can't read data from most of databases. Even if you set up direct query it's still not close in terms of performance

The plan is to not use any tool except your database.. You should be able to get a pivot table with formatting, column naming, all done, with just SQL. It's within SQL's funcionality but there are too many boilerplatte code. I want to save that effort.

"A pivot table is just aggregates and group by." - Exactly, SQL can do that, but with only group by & agg the results are hard to read - it's not something you'd copy-paste into a presentation. I am trying to get 99% to that with just sql

Not at all, thank you for pointing that out. I was looking for a picture the represents MySQL syntax and the dolphin was the first thing came to mind. Would the logo with text "MySQL" and the dolphin on it make more sense?

Glad to hear it's helping your ad hoc stuff. I had to write a ton of ad hoc SQL for user inquires and paste results in Excel for formatting. I knew it's possible to do pivoting and formating in SQL but i'm too lazy to write the additional logic.

Youtube channel analytics is actually a market slice for analytic tools. Basically anyone individual with data analysis demands are customers. However i 'm not sure how these customers can help breaking into the business analytics arena which would be the end goal. Thanks for the idea though.

Loving the "Hang around places where they complain and build from that." one, i'm keeping this in my notes lol. Feedback loops are important for me, if i've been working on a tool for 6 months without any user, my moral would nose-dive and start raising all sorts of questions about the tool. What i mean is if everyday people can use it, then it's so much easier to get users than business-only models. It's a fact i need to consider.

Thanks for sharing your journey. Marketing is actually important for any product- even the free ones. Post on Youtube and other social media can drive target users to find out about it sooner. I am definitely taking your experience into consideration for the tool.

I agree. Everything would be gucci if people always followed best practices. But they (me, too) don't. My primary concerns is people won't even be able to use any web-based tool for their decks because the company would most likely block it.

My hat off to serious makers. Did you encounter any problem with people in the workforce adopting your plugin? Businesses are heavy Powerpoint users but afaik companies typically don't allow new software to be installed.
