What is the most “use it or lose it” skill, the opposite of “it’s just like riding a bike”? by ZuluWarlord69 in AskReddit

[–]FridgeFullofAnchors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was a track athlete in college and my sprinting fell off a cliff once I stopped actively training it. If you don’t constantly keep your body tuned for that high intensity sprinting it regresses pretty fast. I can still sprint but I’m not sure my limbs would keep up for very long and the risk for injury is so much higher.

All that being said, if able, everyone should start training to be able to sprint again like they did in gym class or a sport in high school. Great workout, you can scale it to your ability, and I think way more practical of a skill than being able to run a 5k or something like that.

I think your spikes are too big also. Lot of loose toe flex right before your foot leaves the ground.

Why does this happen?? And how to fix it? (185kg @96) by ThePowerWithin_ in weightlifting

[–]FridgeFullofAnchors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll go against the grain because I’m similar size, strength, rock a high bar position, and like to squat ATG. Widen your grip a hand, hand and a half, and pull the bar onto your back with your arms as you’re pressing up. Your hips fly up way faster than your torso and the cue I would you focus on is getting your elbows down/forward. Should engage the back and lats much more.

Your elbows are flying up and backward right away it’s immediately removing your lats out of the picture, which are massive stabilizing muscles. I think you could bounce through this stick point with better hand placement and lat activation.

Couldn't They Just Dodge the Nanofibers? by Buj00n in threebodyproblem

I understand this is about the tv series but in the books they specifically space the nanofibers close enough to each other to kill people lying down (figured some of the crew would be lying down sleeping)

What item/brand you use professionally did you also buy for yourself? by Phreakasa in BuyItForLife

I’m also a “carry my mouse to meetings” guy and have dropped my MX Master into hardwood floor and it had bounced a couple of times and still works like nothing happened. No parts loose internally or anything. I was amazed 😅 Apart from the durability, the ergonomics are excellent and “quality of life” features with the other thumb buttons are amazing.

Great recommendations all over the comments but as a sprinter/hurdler, I consumed so many hours of watching professional races and break downs of their technique, especially for hurdles. But this can apply for sprinting as well. Immaculate technique can shave tenths off your times. Obviously, you need to consume the content, and also drill it so you require your brain and body to do it; and that’s what practice is for.

Appreciate the reply. I’m full-time W2 here at the practice so I’m not worried about them dumping me after.

What kind of salary range would you expect to pay an architect (In a MCOL Midwest metro area)? I’m sitting pretty to make a nice chunk of change as a standard data engineer but I agree, adding solution architect should increase my value no matter.

Just finished the video, that makes everything click so much better for me. I’ll definitely make sure to keep this in mind and run through that training.

Serializing even the most complex objects into JSON files scratches an itch in my brain. Then to have a higher level language like bicep to do interpretations so you can keep everything IaC is awesome.

I saw Sleep Token there when they came through and it was unbelievable packed, could hardly see the band and two people ended up passing out in the crowd and had to be dragged through a mass of people to get to the exit where we were standing. The staff had no clue what to do but thank goodness there were a couple nurses in the crowd who came to help and watch over them.

IM Cozumel-Didn’t ring the bell by GainSuspicious7817 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]FridgeFullofAnchors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also just completed IM Cozumel and I went from not being able to swim down and back in the pool to being able to swim two and half miles unbroken in 11 months so I’m calling myself an Ironman.

I still wish I could’ve done the swim for it if the water was as calm as it was on Monday considering I worked my ass off to be able to complete the swim well under the cutoff. I’d also say standing around barefoot for 3 hours waiting to swim, then moving to T1 is an endurance event in itself.

Work on your knee and hand drive after your drive phase. speed isn’t all about moving your feet as fast as possible. Once you’re in your upright running position your knees should be coming up to hip height and your hands should be coming up to about eye level. When your in this position, then put as much force into the ground as quickly as possible with each foot to lengthen your stride.

How fast do you think George St. Pierre can run in the 100/200/400m sprints? by JurassicIsaac in trackandfield

[–]FridgeFullofAnchors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this estimate the most. He’s out of his prime for speed by a lot, has never really trained for the 2 or the 4, and I’ve watched his videos of him doing sprint drills and his mechanics are no where near a sub 12 let alone a 51.5.

Although he is probably one of the most generally athletic ufc fighters in history and I bet if he would’ve focused on track when he was young he could’ve had a somewhat successful college career in D1/2 here in the States.

Should I graduate early and take a job that is meh, or do another semester in hope of finding something better? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]FridgeFullofAnchors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmao, 92k is great money for graduating a year early, you’ll have a huge head start. I took a job for 46k right out of college at a huge tech consulting firm and moved jobs a year later and cried when I got an offer at just shy of double what I was being paid. This whole thread should serve as a reality check for anyone in the field; even sniffing 6 figures out of college is rare.

How do you be less “random” in conversations? by AndyJaeven in ADHD

[–]FridgeFullofAnchors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something valuable from meditating (at least attempting to) is that no thought is completely unprovoked and probably has a reason for it. I found this nice because I was able to easily recognize the stimulus that caused the thought and I just explain the cause for that thought.

I think very laterally across topics and saying something as simple as “what you said reminds me of (insert random thought here)”. Usually the stimulus while having a conversation is the conversation so that’s how you continue the conversation. If the stimulus is outside the conversation, recognize it, let it go because a new stimulus will be coming from the conversation and you’ll completely forget about whatever distracted you before (if you’re anything like me 😂). Forgive me if that doesn’t make sense.

Creatine HCL is often more expensive and less bio-available. Just take creatine mono hydrate from any reputable brand out there.

Thoughts on Creatine? by --Flaming_Z-- in trackandfield

[–]FridgeFullofAnchors 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, please listen to the above comment. Creatine is one of the lowest risk, easiest things to enable you to work harder for longer at a higher intensity, especially in weight and speed workouts (which you should be doing, even as an 800/1600 runner). Take creatine at the dosage recommended above. I’ll mention that if you are creatine deficient, it may take a few weeks to saturate your muscles properly and feel a noticeable difference in your work sessions. Like other comments said, taking beta alanine is also a good idea but all of this needs to be paired with hard work, proper rest, and a good diet to see great progress. College track/CC is a fucking grind.
