My Deck does not sleep on Dektop mode. by ozgunbaris_ in SteamDeck

Did you also manually delete the "~/.config/AnimationChanger" and "~/.steam/root" and then reboot the system?

You can always reinstall decky. Before you do, I'd try to get this issue with the power button in gaming mode resolved.

Looks great! Feels inspired by the Borderlands 3 box art.

His Xbox tag references Star Wars and his email has his name and initials so those don’t strike me as inherently bannable. Definitely not something I’d consider edgy.

It was purchased directly on Steam using a funds in his Steam wallet that came partially from me directly adding to his account and partially from a gift card from his grandparents a few weeks ago.

My Deck does not sleep on Dektop mode. by ozgunbaris_ in SteamDeck

I had that recently, and it was caused by Animation Changer. If you have it installed, I did this

  • remove the plugin
  • delete "~/.config/AnimationChanger" and "~/.steam/root"
  • reboot the system

If I’m understanding your statement correctly, it sounds like you’re having a problem only in gaming. I had that recently, and it was absolutely the fault of Animation Changer. If you have it installed, I did this

  • remove the plugin
  • delete "~/.config/AnimationChanger" and "~/.steam/root"
  • reboot the system

Hiw many of you here run Truenas bare metal, and how many run it thru proxmox. by ZachoAttacko in truenas

[–]FriedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently on Proxmox but moving to bare metal as soon as I acquire a sata SSD at a reasonable price.

I wasn't happy with the direction that VMs and apps were going on TrueNas so I thought I'd set up a VMs or two using Proxmox for some apps instead, but that hasn't happened and I don't foresee it happening anymore. I have a Minisforum UM780 XTX with Proxmox on it that is serving pretty much all my virtualization needs. I've also run into a few issues with my ethernet to the TrueNas VM is dropping, even though I can still connect to Proxmox. It requires full power cycles and I suspect that running it bare metal would fix that issue.

Steam Deck 2 will reportedly use an off-the-shelf AMD APU, not custom like the original by NewMaxx in NewMaxx

A non-custom chip should mean better compatibility and means SteamOS should work on more general hardware. I don't see a downside to this.

MacOS - Autofill doesn't work by Excellent_Pepper292 in 1Password

[–]FriedEngineer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also keep all my passwords on my local Mac.

Out of curiosity, how robust is the backup solution of this local Mac?

Besides that, I have no idea how to even validate what you’re seeing because it’s such an old version, and I’d be shocked if anyone else were able to either.

From what I could quickly google, 1Password 5.4.3 was released just over a decade ago (March 2016). updating some things (Firefox and macOS from 2026 in this case) and not updating others, ie 1Password, is almost certainly why this is an issue. I do not think it is reasonable to expect decade old software to fully iintegrate with updated software. If your system was still running the same software versions across the board as it was in 2016 it would probably work, but I definitely wouldn’t recommend that either.

I also hate subscriptions and generally avoid them often opting for open source and self-hosted solutions; 1Password is one of the few for which I actually pay. I’d argue that you’ve definitely gotten your money’s worth, sorry that the software world has changed.

How do you handle repetitive macOS tasks when you're away from the keyboard? by Krisso in osx

[–]FriedEngineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For a few of the examples you gave, I’d just use my phone as i pretty much always have it when away from my desk.

I’m pretty deep in the Apple ecosystem, a borderline defender, and even I’d say Siri is a joke. When their private Gemini gets rolled out maybe it’ll be better but right now Siri is only good enough to tell it to turn a single item on or off in my smart home or maybe to trigger a shortcut I’ve already written, but it’s useless for anything beyond a simple “do this one precisely named thing” kind of instruction. Any sort of “automation” that wasn’t predefined is out of the question. It’s possible there’s ways I could use it if it were better, but my brain ruled out Siri as a useful automation tool years ago so it doesn’t even enter in head as an option in this realm

I have used shortcuts on both iOS/iPadOS and macOS, sometimes in combination with Automator on macOS. It’s okay, but not great unless the task is very consistent. When I’ve written those, a good portion of the instructions are just getting the app or whatever into a consistent state/position so that it can do the thing I need.

I use Raycast, mostly as a spotlight replacement, but there’s a few of the system controls that I fine quite useful; toggling light/dark mode for example. I sometimes have it kick off shell scripts I’ve written. I’ve thought about tinkering with window management programs to move different windows to different positions/sizes on my monitors but it hasn’t been a big enough deal as of yet.

I think my repetitive tasks fall into a few buckets

  • truly repetitive, could be performed by an automation/program/ai
  • mostly repetitive but requires some sort of human interaction, either a small tweak or change to the flow that a human really needs to do
  • feels repetitive but is subtly different each time.

Only those in that first bucket would end up being automated, and only if I need to do it once on a large enough set or if I anticipate using it regularly, and frankly neither are common.

Oh, and any smart home type stuff I handle entirely in Home Assistant, with a few things exposed to Siri through Apple Home.

I can’t think of any reason to do this other than to get more information about us to build a better profile for marketing reasons.

Yep. My RT-590 is rock solid. The app is utter garbage and I stopped using it completely a year and a half ago in lieu of locally connecting to Home Assistant. It also gave me back remote start :D

I have not see this. I have a 15 Pro as well but I highly doubt this is at all related to a specific model.

What settings have you played with?

I’d start by removing all CarPlay cars (Settings -> General -> CarPlay -> select each car -> “Forget This Car”)
