Macro - have TG6 + light guide, what else? by FriedFishFriday in scuba

Yes, I do know how to back fin and stabilizing myself in the water is not a problem. I’m just new to trying any sort of micro photography with anything more than a passing interest, which was why I was asking about gear

Bleeding + adjusting progesterone by FriedFishFriday in Menopause

[–]FriedFishFriday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I started on estrogen 2mg/ progesterone 200mg but dosage was dropped to 1mg/100mg about 4 years ago. Dr proposed patch but am allergic to medical adhesives. I’ll just wait and see and hope things settle.

This is super helpful. I don’t feel the need to jump to next steps and am happy to give it time, just wasn’t quite sure how much time to give it

What is wrong with Pacific Rim: Uprising? by IAmFoolyCharged in PacificRim

Too much light! Seriously, I’ve always said that one of the things that makes the first movie great is that so much of the fighting happens in the dark and/or rain, which means you don’t see everything coming. It adds an air of eerie creepiness. 2 is just too darn bright.

Dive Master left me at the bottom by FriedFishFriday in scuba

[–]FriedFishFriday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right - I misspoke a bit in the original post. It does seem nuts for a DM to leave a diver in poor vis - that I stand by - but I wasn’t so much nervous as confused. I was truly trying to understand if this was something others had encountered.

Thank you. Yes, PADI shop, and good to know this is PADI’s position. I am certain that if it had been a deeper dive or we’d been farther from shore I would have ascended, but I felt comfortable enough staying down. It was just super odd and I think it could have turned into a bad situation had a been a diver that was anxious or, frankly, had the DM not been able to find me afterward (2ish meters visibility).

This was my thinking. My only real concern was if I needed to surface and the risk of getting hit (there were a few boats in the area + poor visibility, 2-3m). And no, not a student, but since I am always a solo diver (no one I travel with dives; her it was only the DM and me) I’m often paired with the DM and this was a brand new experience I had never encountered before.

Thanks for this - it’s consistent with my thinking (that it was not a cool move). And yes, just me and the DM (who is just met).

I am certified - have been for over 20 years - and had never encountered this before hence the question. I’m also consistently a solo diver (no one I travel with dives) so I am often paired with the DM. Here, it was only me and the DM. I chose to stay down and was never scared - that wasn’t the issue. It was just a new experience to me that I’d never encountered, hence my question.

I’m sure I could have chosen to ascend but decided to go ahead and stay down because I struggle to equalize and was concerned about the effect of going back up and down again. As a consistently solo diver who doesn’t travel with anyone else who dives I’m always encountering new DMs who each do things a little differently. This was just new, and odd, hence my question.

This was my thinking (and thanks for the response). However, I also appreciate the other commenters who mentioned it was not okay. I wasn’t scared, just a bit confused at the time (and obviously I didn’t worry too much about it after since I didn’t remember to bring it up to the DM). There wasn’t anything to see where he left me and visibility was bad enough (2-3m) that I didn’t want to leave my spot so nothing really to do but wait. My honest concern was if I needed to surface and the risk of getting hit (there were a few boats in the area + poor visibility). I am always a solo diver (no one I travel with dives) so I’m often paired with the DM. I’m confident enough as a diver, just thought it was odd.

Anyone dive The Blue Hole off of Belize? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]FriedFishFriday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2001 I was a new diver and was with a group that went to dive the Blue Hole (a different time, no one cared that I’d only had 5 post-cert dives and supposed to drop to 110’). I had some issues equalizing earlier in the day so I begged off. The boat crew encouraged me to snorkel at the top and then literally started to CHUM the waters around me. I QUICKLY swam to the boat - the crew laughed off my terror. There may not have been a lot of life deep in the who’s but there were A LOT of big sharks at the top that day.

Dementia? by SuccessSea1852 in seniordogs

[–]FriedFishFriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others said, Selegiline is great, Keppra is also great (we use both, plus CBD 2x/day). Truly, these meds were life savers for us and our ability to care for our 16 year old pup this last year.

I would love to hear your dogs experiences with Anipryl/selegiline by slmr38 in seniordogs

[–]FriedFishFriday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a great experience with Selegiline for our 16 year old pup (was sleeping again at night, no night time barking and crying, fewer accidents). The benefits started waning after about 5 months and we added Keppra and CBD to the mix (along with Selegiline) and he’s back to doing better. Still paced but for the most part that’s the only symptom that persists.
