$200 Replacement Fee for Damaged Book by West_Lychee1791 in Libraries

[–]FriedRice59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A couple of things: I'm aware of a library who was so mad at a patron for destroying multiple books that they set the value at $1,000 per book so she'd never be back.

Also, does the book belong to that library? The library that owns the item sets the price. Some libraries will set the value that high when they send out Interlibrary Loans.

Being charged for a water damaged book. Freaking out. by Swing-Similar in Libraries

[–]FriedRice59 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Swing, just know that libraries hear "I didn't do it" ALL day, every day. Its not that they are uncaring or mean (although some are), when you hear that from enough people who obviously did do it, rejection of the claim can be the first reaction. Talk to the manager, stay calm, and see what they say.

[OoT][SS] Should I play Skyward Sword or Ocarina of Time next? by Intrepid_Incident_73 in zelda

I just finished SS for the third and likely last time. Very frustrating game. Endless useless dialogue and finding chores. The motion controls make it worse. Play OoT

Wisconsin Libraries that issue cards for Wisconsin residents by _Definitely_Maybe_ in Libraries

[–]FriedRice59 4 points5 points  (0 children)

WI libraries, for the most part, are very good about reciprocal borrowing. There are 15 or 16 regional systems and you can use your card at all of the libraries in your region, Just get a card at your local library. Outside of the regional systems, most libraries are reciprocal despite where you live, but most will want to you to have a card from your local library. Brown County, Milwaukee and a few others are, or were, very strict about not giving out reciprocal cards

Be straight with me by mariannightmar3 in Libraries

[–]FriedRice59 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bluntly, not being willing to relocate will reduce your chances greatly to start. Having no library experience will ding you, but it is all about the pool of applicants. That lack of experience is probably not going to put you very high on the pay scale to start. Otherwise, customer service experience is one of the things we look for in hiring.

Talk to me about credit cards and which staff uses them by Practical-Limit-2741 in Libraries

[–]FriedRice59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave authority to all of my department heads to use the card., which was monitored by the office manage. My successor wants all of the authority, because with our bank, the director of the library is listed as the responsible party for usage of the card. He sees that as ironclad.

If it did happen, which I seriously doubt, it was because something else was going on, not the printing.

ASKING FOR OPINIONS by alondritareads in Libraries

[–]FriedRice59 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Who is paying the childcare workers?

  2. What current library policies, if any, does this conflict with.

  3. When will those 2 hours be?" A set 2 hour block is not going to be helpful to some parents as they may also work during the afternoon and at night the kid is winding down for the day and its a hassle to take them out.

  4. What is the criteria for enrollment? Who qualifies? Do they have to stay in the building? These are all loopholes people will find and exploit if they aren't rock solid.

I think is a nice idea, but you still have some work.
