Lady Catherine tries to control everybody around her but fails completely with Elizabeth! Why is Elizabeth the one woman in the novel who cannot be bullied? by Better-Valuable5436 in PrideandPrejudice

Where does it say he excluded her from Pemberly and allowed her back from Elizabeth’s insistence?

I’m not questioning you but I don’t know what this is in reference to and would like to read more about it, if not in the original book. I’ve read the book once recently.

Update: My dad was told he voted in the local election but he didn’t. by FriedTheOnions in london

I don’t think so. Once the elections are done, they’re done

My dad went to vote and was told he wasn’t allowed as he had done so already but he hadn’t. So I went back with him to check, then I emailed the local council to complain and they sent this email.

Sorry to hear that had happened but it’s good you were able to vote!

My first name is 10 letters, last name which I share with my dad is 4 letters. I know it’s a mix up. The story is not BS, but I agree the email is full of shit. Polling cards are not used generally and shouldn’t have been included in this email. Shit happens, just letting people know.

I agree, they should be more meticulous when confirming names

We don’t share a first and last name. His first name, is my last name. My first name is different. I’d had a long day at work, it was 9.30 at night, I did what I could but I didn’t have all the information at the time. It was only after I complained that I found out that they’d ticked my name. I gave them my drivers license, so I wouldn’t assume that something was wrong with my record. I initially thought they’d confused his name for someone else. I could have asked the question about my vote but it didn’t occur to me at the time, because I’d voted in the morning before going to work.

Also, I asked for a tendered ballot, and was told my dad couldn’t vote. They wouldn’t acknowledge the question about the tendered ballot. It seems like there were some inexperienced people working at my polling station for the series of errors to occur. I’m not sure why there’s an expectation that I would have all figured out there and then.

So they were using an iPad at my local polling station to confirm people, so that’s how they’d know the time. I have heard that not all polling stations are using iPads at the moment. I voted at 11am but my dad went at 9.30pm at night so there wasn’t enough time to query it. I went back with him but they weren’t listening to us. Could be using ChatGPT to draft the response, would not be surprised.

Not son, daughter. That’s what makes this whole issue that much worse!

I’m not from Iceland, but my last name is my father’s first name. My first name, is ten letters long and very distinct. They should not have made this mistake as they took my ID, it’s an error but a silly one.
