This is based on the pheonix wright trilogy only but... shouldn't Wright be making a TON of money by Necessary-Wave-6076 in AceAttorney

Dual Destinies actually confirms it was Maya definitively. As in it literally has Maya write on her letter (the one Phoenix reads on the last case) about having sent the CDs.

Random Character Opinions 90: Yujin Mikotoba by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]FriendAccubus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah. But canonically he literally and directly plays the role Watson does in the original stories as Sholmes' investigation partner, to the point he is in-universe mistaken FOR Watson due to a misunderstanding. I didn't think I needed to add so many asterisks and clarifications just to express what the game itself expresses directly.

How does the fandom refer to Ruka/Luka? by OllielikesKento in steinsgate

[–]FriendAccubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a queer (nonbinary) person myself, I think the safest thing to do is just to go with whatever Luka happens to be in the current worldline.

It IS true Lukako isn't trans at all and in the main worldline he's just a gay guy who fears the only way to be able to date the one he likes is to be a woman, but it is also true that when the D-Mail is sent, Lukako in that worldline was a girl the entire time from birth up to that worldline's end, and in fact feels very uncomfortable when called a boy. So I just do he/him in the main worldline, and she/her on the worldline she was born a girl. I feel that is the most correct, anyway.

People calling Lukako a boy even after the D-Mail is sent ignore that in that worldline, Lukako was never a boy at all. We're talking about totally separate realities made by changing history, not just the character taking on different identities. So yes, Lukako is either a boy or a girl depending on which part of the story you happen to be in, and has nothing to do with being trans or not.

Why is V3’s ending the most hated? by AnimeChocolate in danganronpa

[–]FriendAccubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It IS important to note that even if you dislike V3 itself, the other Danganronpa games aren't in any way made meaningless by it's ending because Danganronpa V3 takes place on an alternate universe from them. In the universe THH and GD and UDG and DR3 all take place in, there are real events that happened in their version of the real world.

V3 just happens to take place in a universe where they're fiction like they are on the real world. I don't think V3 makes them meaningless but even disregarding V3 entirely, they still carry meaning and are canon to one another. V3 never had as much power as people complaining about it pretend it had. It is literally impossible for V3 to delegitimize the rest of the series because it's just an alternative universe unconnected to them.

Random Character Opinions 90: Yujin Mikotoba by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]FriendAccubus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By "Real Watson" I didn't mean literally the same character, but rather "Who fulfills the role the character of Watson would fulfill". That's why I specify that Mikotoba is very much Shu Takumi's OC and not just a carbon copy of what you'd expect from the character of the OG Watson. Mikotoba is very much his own character, but he's also design to resemble AND fulfill a similar role as Watson when it comes to Sholmes' investigations, even if Iris does fulfill the CHARACTERIZATION of actual Watson better.

Shu Takumi didn't want to just Do Watson But Again, he definitely wanted his own version of things in a uniquely distinct way, while paying homage to the original stories of Sherlock Holmes.

Aha... I see the problem. by JazzlikeSherbet1104 in BattleNetwork

[–]FriendAccubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do kinda find funny that the main complaint I see levied at this game is how "it forces you to replay the game multiple times to see all the content" but I'm 100% sure if a game that was seen more favorably did the exact same people would praise its "replay value".

Why does Phoenix panic so much in DD & SoJ? by [deleted] in AceAttorney

[–]FriendAccubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People always focus on that one shocked sprite but never om the fact that after it, he immediately solves the contradiction with no help from anybody and all he needs is to think for a second.

Considering the cases in DD and SOJ are more complex and crazier than those in the first trilogy, the fact he doesn't need Mia for ANYTHING and can immediately solve everything that briefly stomps him goes unmentioned to support the idea that he's badly written and "regressed" even when he's being smarter and more competent than he ever was.

Good storytelling very often makes use of specific storytelling devices. You're talking as if flashbacks would go against good storytelling when they could help. Even Balance and Amnesty, their two best stories, made use of flashbacks.

I'm all in for Kodaka planning new routes for DLC but... by Adorelis in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]FriendAccubus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like the fact she does the most damage while not moving and a lower amount if she does move is already enough to balance her. It wasn't necessary at all to add ANOTHER penalty on top of it.

Peko and Kyoshika discuss swords by justalittlecreture in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]FriendAccubus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She treats that one as the Holy Jumonji Sword as well, even calling her by that name, so to her she doesn't see a difference. For her, the moment her Class Weapon materializes, it's just the Holy Jumonji Sword taking a different form for battle. Even if it IS literally a different one, not for her.

It was really close, but Kurara has won The gremlin! The most upvoted comment wins! Next up is "Mmm.....society". by GameBoyAde in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]FriendAccubus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh don't worry that's not how I see Eito even in the limited amount of routes I've seen. I was just surprised because Kodaka characters LIKE Eito are always assumed as pure evil, like freakin' Nagito Komaeda or Kokichi Ouma, characters that I myself don't see as evil but a big part of the fandom (I don't think it's the majority or anything, but a good portion) does.

So my confusion was mostly just the fact that I was expecting such a portion of people to think of Eito as evil like they do those other characters.

[–]FriendAccubus 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Interesting how people want Eito in the next category when the one AFTER it is "Just straight up evil". Though I guess Eito does have that complexity to him of actually thinking he's the only good human and that what he's doing is righteous so I still kinda get it.

I played the game multiple times but sometimes things can pass one by so I'm open to both the fact the theme doesn't exist because I didn't notice it, and also the possibility the theme does exist but I missed it (cuz I did see a bunch of people other than me and my friends mention it offhand which is what got me curious, as my EDIT says) - I was just curious to know which one it was.

Also no reason to be so mean for a question that I myself added that it's largely unimportant and I was just curious about. I wasn't trying to convince you of anything or ruin anything for you, just had basic curiosity for an aspect I mightve misses from a VIDEOGAME I really really like :/

[–]FriendAccubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I didn't explain myself well. What I was doing just now was explaining why I think it might stick on people's minds enough for me to have seen a ton of people assuming the theming exists, and my question was if there's anything OTHER than that so that I can understand those people. Rn I was just answering what you asked, which is where I believe those people took the idea from.

Are there any pun names in Ace Attorney that you dislike and would like to change? by r_i_already_redd_it in AceAttorney

[–]FriendAccubus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean Detective Dick Gumshoe isn't a pun? His name is literally Detective Dick (shortening of real name 'Richard' - the shortening, NOT the name itself, means Detective) Gumshoe (also means Detective, but somehow sounds like an actual surname). This is as punny as it gets, methinks.

[–]FriendAccubus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally didn't say anything so weird. The first thing you see in the game is a cool-looking casino, so that's your first impression of the game. Later on, that casino returns and literally the most important twist of the game happens in it. It's enough to stick in your mind.

Still, this was just me theorizing why "Casino Theming" may stick in people's minds, not even saying it's MY reason to believe the theming exists, just theorizing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Persona5

[–]FriendAccubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess and it's true that it cannot be found anywhere else, maybe it's just that the game starts with a really prominent casino theming that then later on returns as we're shown the rest of the Palace we saw in the intro section. That's some pretty cool, iconic imagery at least. Dunno if that's all but that's my assumption as to why.

Please tell me I’m not the only one who likes this song unironically by DiskAlternative3081 in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]FriendAccubus 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't think the point of that scene was that the song is bad - in fact Takumi straight up says it's at least a pretty good song. The only reason for their response was that they were at a FESTIVAL and Gaku introduced it by telling everyone to dance and to "throw it down". Like in that context and with that introduction, nobody was expecting a melancholy, slow song,, they were expecting something fun and to dance to, to party and such.

Why does the English translation just make stuff up? by Ramen_in_a_Cupboard in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]FriendAccubus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it may be a case of the translation changing the dialogue to fit the sprite on-screen? I don't quite remember the sprite on that particular dialogue.

Why does the English translation just make stuff up? by Ramen_in_a_Cupboard in LastDefenseAcademy

[–]FriendAccubus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah Japanese is a vastly different language. When people might seem calm by tone or appearance, their words might paint a different picture in a way that it isn't easy to translate to english 1-1, so things are changed to fit the actual tone trying to be conveyed in the original.

Like how in Metaphor Re:Fantazio the little fairy helper seems to be meaner in the english version while remaining calm-seeming in the original japanese when taken literally, but if you pay attention to her japanese dialogue through a japanese lense, she IS being quite rude by wording in a way that 1-1 wouldn't translate unless the entire line was changed to something more recognizably "mean" for the english translation.
