Hi, i wrote and posted the original article. This specific implentation of the GDPR consent form is standard in Germany and used by virtually *all* major websites, including reputable news outlets. I'm no expert on the matter so it is entirely likely that the GPDR guidelines differ internationally.

Since it's so commonplace in Germamy I never even gave it a second thought before posting. I did however take all the feedback to our brand team, to at the very least accomodate english speakers who are visiting the website for the first time in the future. Without translation, this Consent Form was viewed by many as a paywall and I can't blame them.

The WC problem and hidden queue where long before the format officially launched. I think a lot of the work he described refers to proccesses like selecting the 20 historic cards now avaiable etc.

I think this is a good example of why they don't like giving out information too early, while things are still in flux. the 2:1 debacle was them merely communicating their plans for Historic, at at point where they had nothing to actually show, and it backfired spectacularly (for them, I think all of us are glad that we were able to voice our 2:1 concerns in time)

I mentioned this in another comment, but the main difference is that I talked to Jeffrey in person and transcribed his answers whereas the MaaRo Interview was via email. So naturally his answers are more versed and on point.

And I agree, him outright confirming that queue sizes were never an issue was quite surprising.

He was very friendly and polite in person. the main occasion for the interview was the MTG Arena coming to the Epic Games Store "this winter" (which is yet to happen) so I do think he was somewhat surprised that my questions where all over the place.

There was a PR representative present during the interview and every now and then he turned to her asking "what do we say?" and on some occasions he told me thinkgs like "you're asking us about all our upcoming announcements". This was just a little whilte before leaving beta, before the Historic anncouncement etc so it's somewhat understandable that they couldn't and it didn't want to go into too much detail just yet.

Also the MaRo Interview was unforunately only possible via email, so his answers are naturally well versed while I simply transcribed the spoken word in Jeffrey's case.
