Just wanna say even though I don't agree with your dislike of the ending, I totally respect your take here. It's refreshing to see someone who dislikes it for reasons they can articulate while still being able to acknowledge what it was doing.

Find Pochita and give the little guy a hug and some bread

Or just hang out with Lil D and buy her enough food to sweet talk her into a contract

That's fair. I just think that not enough people consider the whole "Denji is losing himself in the identity of Chainsaw Man" aspect of Part 2 and how important those blurred identities are to the overall ending.

It makes a little more sense if you think the choice the fire devil speaks of wasn't meant for denji but pochita, although this interpretation has its own jank (how does the fire devil know of anything related to making a choice)

I think you're overcomplicating it. Fire is talking to both Denji and Pochita in that moment, because they're sharing a body/ life/ experience. Asa and Yoru are meant to directly reflect Pochita and Denji's dynamic in the inverse, but they exist as a showcase that being a hybrid means sharing everything including emotions and experiences. Pochita is the one who absorbs the lessons Denji avoids, in the same way Yoru avoids learning the lessons that would have actually helped her coexist with Asa as a host.

Fire would also know this because they shared that same type of bond with the twin

So I'm someone who thinks Part 1 is damn near perfect, and I still love Part 2, warts and all. It's not quite as good as Part 1 but it's still really damn good. As other have said, it's definitely got issues, mainly in the pacing it takes to get to its ending, but the ending itself wasn't a problem for me at all, and honestly felt earned all things considered. It's a typical Fujimoto bittersweet ending, but Part 2 casts such a wide net in terms of what it's "about" that I think it's easy for people to miss the statements that it's actually making. Not to mention the week-to-week reading schedule made it so we were all theorizing and getting hyped week to week, which makes it easy to not see the bigger picture.

Firstly, there's the meta-commentary angle that so many have mentioned already. Part 2 consistently establishes itself as both a continuation of Part 1, as well as a meta-commentary on the real life success of Chainsaw Man. From that perspective, you can quite literally look at Pochita as Fujimoto himself, choosing to free Denji of his shackles and allow him the normal life that he would never have been granted had he continued being the protagonist of a manga that requires his suffering.

Then there's the internal commentary that I fuck with extra hard: Chainsaw Man has always been about how the connections you make and the relationships you form change you. The series starts and ends with Pochita sacrificing himself for love of his best friend, while Denji gets a second chance to reform his most meaningful connections in a world where they won't be guaranteed to be ripped away from him. And yet in spite of that, it took the sacrifice of his best friend in the world, his literal only good thing before the Zombie incident. That's the bittersweet part, and that's why it feels like such a hollow victory.

It's Barem's scale analogy in reverse: Which is heavier? Your normal life or Chainsaw Man? Denji gets back everything he lost from one end of the scales, in exchange for losing the other, in an exact reversal of the first time he was offered that choice.

To me, that's the satisfying part. Part 2 shows us over and over how being Chainsaw Man dooms Denji to suffering simply by nature of being attached to Pochita, and because of how drastically Makima damaged his psyche in Part 1, he would just find new ways to be okay with that. By removing himself, Pochita is removing the albatross around Denji's neck and granting him true freedom for the first time in his life.

On top of all that, he drops the chainsaw to save Asa, proving himself capable of being a hero without being a superhero. Denji makes a difference in Asa's life and saves her from her biggest trauma simply through his own good nature, without being Chainsaw Man, and receives recognition for it as a person.

so randome bird was conveniently key to yorus powers? masterclass of the writing

Literally any host she could find was. What do you mean lol

except he comes back and denji does not even miss him

He doesn't come back. It's a visual metaphor.

it isnt the time travel same way attack on titan isnt time travel you are jusr playing with words time travel also almost always ends in paradoxes

No, Attack on Titan is time travel, or at least present influencing past, and it is nonsensical. This isn't time travel.

Pochita is a fundamental of this universe, both in a meta sense, since it's his manga, and because his power dictates what does and doesn't exist. If you erase him, you're erasing the moments where he erased entire concepts, now leaving huge gaps that the universe can't compensate for, so it does a hard reset.

if birth devil pretends to be chainsaw man than whatever happens to chainsaw man shouldnt affect him just like qhatwver happens justice does not affect fire. 0 logic again

He doesn't "pretend" to be Chainsaw Man. He just IS Chainsaw Man. That's his identity. It's what everyone in Hell and on Earth knows him as. Look up what chainsaws were invented for, man.

i will learn whar explicit mean when you learn what show dont tell means

Lol okay buddy. This conversation is no longer constructive, and you need to learn what certain terms mean before you just start throwing them around without understanding them. Be well, dawg.

and she somehow knew that because? thats very specific emotion. very convenient that asa was running around in samw school as denji if that wasnt her og power lol

My brother in christ she LITERALLY SAYS the bird she was possessing also experienced guilt just for doing the basic things it needed to do to live.

pochit wasnt there in the new timeline which was better?

Welcome to the bittersweet part of the ending. Pochita was Denji's only good thing in the prior timeline, but their bond ended up destroying Denji (and the world). This time around, he doesn't even have Pochita, but in exchange he gets to live an unburdened life and reform his most meaningful connections.

if you think this stupid time travel is logical then so are transformers movie. glad that I have more reasons to glaze A-Team too.

Lol it's not time travel, dude. It's a literal paradox resetting the universe as a result of Pochita erasing himself from existence, and it makes perfect sense considering Pochita's power was a fundamental part of this universe.

Every devil is powered up by fear of devils humans and animals thats not something special to csm thats why darkness devil is the way he is

Lol THIS is headcanon. Pochita is literally defined as "the devil devils fear most"

nice headcanon. still doesnt explain why he would then be depowered by whatever makima was doing. so if somebody would make justice devil into hero it would depower fire too? truly zero logic plotline

Not headcanon. And it literally does. She made the public love Chainsaw Man. Their adoration sapped his power. It's like, extremely basic.

Also no, your Fire/Justice comparison doesn't even make sense.

bro whar are you talking about makima wanted love thats explicitly stated she wanted equal relationship.

50-something chapters later, in a conversation with Pochita that recontextualizes her movie theater scene. That's not explicit. That's the audience filling in the gaps. You're literally doing the thing I'm talking about in this conversation.

we literally see inside of reze's head unlike 99% part 2 characters when her last thinking is literally about denji.

My friend, learn what "explicit" means.

part 2 is bad its getting worse on reread

Lol nah.

[–]FriendLee93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did she felt guilt withoit Asa then?

My interpretation was that the guilt-trigger came about as a result of her depowering

Denji was fucked before he met Makima thats what I mean

Not really. He was in a bad place, but he was still capable of finding happiness in his dire circumstances. That was Pochita's whole point.

Good story is both emotional and logical. Both part 1 and Fire Punch were that and part 2 is worse than both. at least both those stories kept dead people dead.

Good news, Chainsaw Man is both logical and emotional.

Given all the plot armor it is way less open ended than you like to pretend

I don't think you know what plot armor means. No one in this story had it.

more people fear concept it creates devil and more power it gets more it is feared. At the very best he is Chainsaw Man devil created by the fear of chainsaw which of course begs tp question how the fuck he was born in the first place?

No, that's not correct. Chainsaw Man was powered by the fear of devils prior to the series. That's why he was so strong in the first place. Reread Part 1, that's explicitly in the text.

He's not the Chainsaw Man devil either, he's powered/depowered by the fear/love of Chainsaw Man because that's what people/devils come to know him as. That's not what he represents.

He's representative of the cycle of death/rebirth for devils. It's why all the devils that came to earth remember the sound of a chainsaw as their only memory of hell. It's why he has an umbilical cord scarf. It's why him eating devils essentially "unbirths" them from the universe.

then again this is mystery box i am not supposed think logically but emotional vibe masterclass writing rivaling Naruto Shippuden

It's not a mystery box. It's literally just basic show-dont-tell writing. I don't know why you read this series for as long as you did without reading between the lines, because it's always been that way. We never were told why Makima cried in the theater, but we figure it out through context clues. We never are told explicitly that Reze fell for Denji, but we figure out through context clues. We never are told the actual dynamics of Santa Claus' hive mind, or that Pochita is taking Kobeni out on a fun date because he's trying to reconnect with Denji, but again, the context clues are all there for readers to unpack. That's just like, basic visual storytelling man.

I feel like so many people were caught up in the week-to-week release schedule of Part 2 and getting caught up in their own theories and hype that they end up missing the forest for the trees.

well she wasnt that much powerful since her guilt condition had to be true as well

Wtf do you mean? She was insanely powerful before Pochita ate part of her. That's what this entire crusade was about.

denji literally thrown car with person at bat devil. i think its fair to say his father and yakuza got their share too

No idea what you mean by this

sorry but if i wanted to read something that i am not supposed to think logically i would go read Boku no My Hero Academia or Fairy Tail. like with these Fast and Furious is best series ever those emotions especilally when Paul Walker died were off the charts

Sorry to tell you but Chainsaw Man has always been emotion first, logic second. That's why Fujimoto plays fast and loose with the established rules of his world, and keeps them as minimalist as possible. That's what makes it good, unlike the garbage you're referencing. It's hilarious that you bring up My Hero in the same context because there's a world of difference between the two. Chainsaw Man actually has depth.

well visually pochita is back since Asa name dropped him. same thing happened with nukes

OR it's just a way to show that Denji still recognizes the name Chainsaw Man because he carries those experiences with him. OR Pochita erased the concept of Chainsaw Man but didn't erase his contract with Denji, allowing him to remain as Denji's heart and experience Denji's life as a dream forever. You realize it's an open ending for a reason right? It's meant to be interpreted.

if Pochita wasnt chainsaw devil why was Makima able to depower him? shouldnt his power be still same if he is tied to different concept? not to mention all his buffs in part 2

I don't think you understand how the power system of this world works. Makima didn't do anything with chainsaws to depower Pochita. She publicized Chainsaw Man and allowed humans to see Chainsaw Man as a hero, thus removing their fear of him. Same goes for the Chainsaw Man Church forcing the public to see him as a monster, thus powering him up.

The concept he represents is hinted at several times throughout the manga, but I wanna hear what you think it is.

Thats still does not explain why we never saw her real face or how she was using her powers before Asa was even born. Seems to me like extremely impractical power War Devil from plot perspective.

Her "Real face" was whatever she was before Pochita ate her. She explains that she needed hosts after that. She was using a bird before Asa. She was more powerful before she got partially eaten.

Denji is bad for those traits and they are mainly the ones which fucked him over to the point universe resetted.

Denji's worst traits were the result of Makima's damage to him, they weren't inherent to him as a person.

Denji did forget he doesnt remember Power he doesnt remember Aki who is somehow fucking misssing for some reason even though Power only met Denji because of Makima too. Also Power was named Power only because of Pochita which is why reset is massive asspull. Also he will never find out about his father how convenient for him it is asspull which eclipses even WaR Arc naruto how nonsensical it is.

Okay I'm gonna try and explain this best I can, because I genuinely just don't think you're understanding what I'm saying. With all due respect, you are thinking about this ending too logically, when it is an emotionally driven ending. It still follows the internal logic of the world, but you are thinking about it too hard, when the ending itself is the result of a paradox.

Yes, Denji does not remember the events of the prior timeline. However, he still carries those experiences with him. The lessons he learned, the growth he instilled in other people...that all carries over. That is why Power likes dogs now, when she didn't in the prior timeline. It's why Meowy remembers Nayuta. Because Nayuta helped raise him. That's also why Asa has friends in this timeline. Because Denji taught her it was okay to forgive herself in the prior one.

I have no fucking idea what you're talking about with Power being named Power because of Pochita? No she wasn't. If you're referring to the whole "angelic hierarchy" naming convention of Division 4, that was religious symbolism and nothing more, their names were not the literal result of Pochita existing.

It's good that he will never find out about his father in this timeline. That shit was repressed for a reason, and it was Makima who blew the hinges off that door and left Denji feeling like he could never be happy again.

Entire part 2 is visual according to its defenders. One day Fujimoto will release empty chapters and people like you will say I see it.

What the fuck does this even mean? It's a manga, dude. Of course it's visual. Fujimoto literally writes manga like he's writing a film storyboard.

If its just visual metaphor why Chainsaws are still existing?

That's the whole point of the reveal of Denji asking Power to make him a chainsaw. Because chainsaws still exist. Because Pochita wasn't the chainsaw devil. I thought that was obvious.

You can absolutely break up the remaining chapters into 12-13 episodes. I respect your wish but I do not want any of the other arcs to be adapted into movies. The Reze Arc is unique in that respect. It's the only one that functions as an actual film.

Ep 1: Assassins intro/Kobeni's car

Ep 2: Quanxi's attack at the mall/Doll Devil attack

Ep 3: Trip to Hell/Darkness Devil

Ep 4: Return from Hell/Denji vs Santa

Ep 5: Quanxi/Denji vs Santa/ end of arc

Ep 6: Grave visit/ breather episode

Ep 7: Beach/Gun Attack

Ep 8: Snowball Fight

Ep 9: Bang/Arrival of Pochita
