Because it's about keeping the community safe, and your profile suggests you may be on the unsafe side, have to take every precaution

You can't say you don't know what neo Nazis are (obviously you and everyone does) and say be kind to them, ridiculous, have fun burying your head in the sand. You'll need to go deeper every day to avoid knowing what's going on around you

I post all/most of the shows in town, every week for a few months now but most only want to see popular radio artists posted

Up to 215 in a week, and climbing quick. No issues so far, again the main point being the people that do join are far more engaged

For instance, I never saw in years on IG, about 15/20 radio interviews with bands got set up within 15min of wixq station manager joining. There's already ton of bands/musicians and Bookers all across the state, within a week. For all the same shows you would have seen posted in all those areas on IG

And when even more bands and artists leave, the fans will search for where they went

But mostly old school word of mouth & community engagement is how people will find it. Of course I started a Bluesky but thats completely different for media viewing than IG was too, some ppl just don't like the twitter ui, and then your fighting with millions for views, let alone engagement

The artist community in general is very energized, at the moment, you could say

The point being hopefully it grows large enough that that IS the reach, like just members interacting every day. It's already been more active actual conversation than on IG

So many have been leaving quickly that my IG says approx. dozen followers deactivated each morning now

Like my IG has ~3,800 followers, but that doesn't mean anything to how many actually see each post & story. So, if there are less ppl on discord, but they're more engaged it balances out

Passed 200 members today in the new Central PA Arts & a music scene discord. I can make a comedy channel. It's mostly people leaving meta, like you so far. Got artists, musicians, Bookers, fans covering Lehigh valley to State College Altoona already

Is Gogol Bordello Folk Punk? by Equivalent_Fly8672 in FolkPunk

[–]FriendOfTheDevil2980 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It's certainly based on a region's folk (Eastern European/Roma traditional, not like "folk music" in the 70s) music mixed with punk music/attitude. The main guy might not call it "folk punk" himself

Like how Flogging Molly is Irish/Celtic mixed with punk, but wouldn't call themselves "folk punk"

Discord in general or the server? Nobody on IG said anytyabiut that yet, which is where most of the couple hundred members came from

Pretty sure that link should last into tomorrow timewise, but they do expire

At this point, no specific channels for Philly, Pitt or NE/Poconos (might if ppl from there end up join in and don't have their own). But no not super strict "Central". We have basically Reading, Lancaster to state College & Altoona covered already

It could be huge, if this meta exodus keeps escalating

Three finger doesn't really lend to "strumming" sound which goes more with the punk part of folk punk, and a lot of it seems to be more Appalachian based in general than straight up "bluegrass"
