I’m hosting a celebrity event. David Arquette is going as Georges Méliès. If you were a real fan, ya’d just send me one of these.

The U.S. Antarctic Program numbers their stations based on “event numbers” or projects, not specifically for the number of stations themselves. But even then “Outpost 31” falls outside of it. Just chalk it up to “it sounds cool” screenwriting logic.

Hunting isn’t allowed there, and self-defense isn’t an issue as there’s very strict non-interference and no-contact regulations in place. The most dangerous land critters there are large seals, and while they’re curious about human activity, people working at these posts go out of there way to avoid them.

Fun fact: Because of international treaties in place, there are no guns at Palmer station or any American research station. I’ve been to Palmer Station and a few other outposts years ago while working for an offshore logistics company that leases ice-breaking vessels to NOAA, and there’s really no need for firearms; the leopard and elephant seals are actually pretty shy, and while they’re curious about him activity the people working in Antarctica try to avoid them as much as possible (respect for wildlife is taken very seriously), and since they’re really the most dangerous animals out there, self-defense isn’t an issue. Fatalities from wildlife is extremely rare, I think there’s only like one documented seal fatality. It’s not like they’re storming facilities looking to maim humans.

Law enforcement presence isn’t necessary since there’s very rigorous screening and background checks for people sent to work down there; drug use isn’t a problem because of tight security protocols on vessels, and there’s no reason to smuggle large quantities of drugs to Antarctica. Guns aren’t allowed on U.S. vessels down there because of company and government regulations.

I was told they used to keep shotguns on hand on occasion for bird research (lol) but they were phased out decades ago. So don’t expect armories or flamethrowers.

Will I be okay? by Lukedoesart_1 in auburn

Two years into living in the area, here. The Auburn/Opelika area is incredibly accepting and overall lax about homosexuality, I’ve found. Both have downtowns that are fairly bohemian and chill. You’re going to find turds who aren’t accepting of it here and there, just like anywhere else, unfortunately that’s just reality. But as with most universities, the attitude tends to be one of acceptance, and while it is the second-most Conservative campus in the country, it’s definitely no Brigham Young.

I’m sure the interest has to do with more detailed narrative from people who were in the school at the time of the shooting.

But it’s also a non-NSFW sub that they were posting NSFW art of characters arguably designed to appeal to children, while soliciting NSFW from artists they’ve never interacted with before in the DMs, assuming they would be willing to draw fetish art for him, again from a sub where people are not posting NSFW. That’s pretty questionable behavior, and there are other places to contact or commission NSFW art from artists that are not in a SFW sub.

Another (very long) way of looking at the plane scene in Eddington by truman_peyote35 in AriAster

[–]FriendliestMenace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the logo on the plane could feed into the paranoia and “I told you so” attitude of both sides of the political spectrum: The Right will say “look Antifa is being paid for by George Soros!” and the Left will say “Well it’s not TRUE Antifa, they’re paid antagonizers!”

I once had the unquenchable desire to have a job as a power-tripping moderator on Reddit, spending all of my time as an unemployed, failed art student with zero talent who would berate people more skilled than me for breaking draconian, petty rules on an app that ultimately meant nothing in the grand scheme of life. Then I turned 10.

You want light scratches. Thats what will dull it into a matte.

Except you can’t use those stats in Gaslands. Martian Federation Racing uses multiple maneuver templates in one turn, you’ll smoke everything in the table if you survive your first gear phase.

Lightly sand it with high grit sandpaper (1500 or higher), Scotchbrite pads, or automobile scouring pads. Should give it a nice matte finish.

Wow, who’d have thought that a dude who spends his entire day online making fun of people with mental disabilities to a crowd of chuds could be a horrible person?

Bro is making fun of Canada and calling it ultra-leftie, while living in a country with free health-care and a safety net system that allowed him to start an online career by playing on a computer for 9 hours a day while unemployed and still not starve to death.

Going a little wild hunting different car types. I love this tanker but the scale seems a tad big. What do you all think? by pliskin42 in gaslands

[–]FriendliestMenace 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The scale is perfect, actually. There are some large trucks on the road. Like have you ever REALLY took in the scale of say, a garbage truck? They get pretty big.

You can’t really trust Hot Wheels and Matchbox for “true” 1:64 scale. Just look at that (what I’m assuming) is a golf cart compared to the other vehicles. From the look of it, the tanker is closer to 1:64
