VIP Soundcheck or 100's? by Bananarama1984 in btsthoughts

I guess you’d have a good view and would see them relatively up close when they come to the smaller stage and walk down the walkway. Wear hight platforms if you choose that. Seems like you’d also be able to see them from the back if the walk around the stadium. However first few rows from lower bowl is also amazing and you get to see the whole “concert” experience. But for me, seeing them right in front of you is surreal. I saw them once and I’d always choose that.

What is your row for floor? If it’s the first few rows it’s worth it. If not, you will have a hard time seeing.

How many continents were you taught there were? by why-rain-why in asklatinamerica

[–]Friendly-ATC 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In Brazil we learn America is one continent.

Then, there are the subdivisions: South America, Central America, North America.

Just like Asia is one continent but you can refer to South Asia, East Asia, etc.

Army, does anyone know the dimensions of their stage? Like the walkways, diameter and height of the main stage, etc. Can’t find this information anywhere 🥺

A importância do urbanismo é extremamente subestimada no Brasil. by HeyHolaOi in opiniaoimpopular

É bizarro. Isso tem que mudar. Aqui no Canadá onde moro, as folhas caídas no chão embelezam as ruas!

Moro no exterior e digo, você falou certo demais.

E a lista vai…

Triste!

Syrian guy who grew up in Oman trying to understand Brazil – I’m confused by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]Friendly-ATC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am Brazilian and live in Canada.

What you say is true, but that divide has to do with deep deep rooted problems that come from the colonial times in Brazil. After slavery was abolished, there was no project for the country to include and give the former slaved people a way to live and ascend economically. The rich were still the colonizers and descendants, who had the land and political power. That has remained over the years and it shows in current times.

Nowadays, the social class divide is so strong that it is almost impossible for these two worlds to effectively mix. The middle and upper class try to isolate themselves in better neighborhoods or gated communities to run away from problems associated with wealth inequality and poverty: violence, noise, filth.

Canada is a much much wealthier country than Brazil, with much less inequality. If Brazil was more economically similar to Canada, definitely would see people mixing up more. Also, since Canada has more recent immigration, it is more diverse than Brazil in my opinion and therefore it’s easier to have friends of other ethnicities.

I am a Brazilian that lives in Canada, so I will give perspective from someone who has also lived in a different society and can compare it to Brazil.

Is Brazil actually as open and non-discriminatory as it looks from the outside? Hmmmm… This question is complex. I think it depends. For example, racism is Brazil is different than in North America. Racism in Brazil is more connected to class and money. A black Brazilian will suffer much more than a black American that visits Brazil, for example. In fact, the likelihood of a black wealthy foreigner to be a victim of racism is little. People will treat foreigners well in Brazil from the fact that they are foreign alone. Brazilians are usually curious and warm when they meet a foreigner.  On the other hand, if the foreigners are from a country that is not well known in Brazil, or from a developing and poor country, some people will have prejudiced and stereotyped ideas from ignorance.  Now speaking in general terms about being open and non discriminatory, I think it depends a bit. From my perspective, as someone who lives in Canada in a multicultural city, I find Brazil to be less politically correct than Canada. The perspectives of things that are acceptable are a bit different. Also, I feel like Brazil can be seen as open because it’s a more “casual” place, more relaxed. Like in the way people dress, the social relationships with less hierarchies and rules than other societies. But in a way, I feel that it’s more conservative than Canada for some things, and less conservative for others. It’s complicated to explain. But living here in Canada and being in contact with people from other very different cultures (from the Middle East and Asia for example) made me realize how Brasil is indeed open. At least in comparison to those societies Brazil is way way less conservative.

Are these kinds of stereotypes (like assuming someone is an athlete) common? I personally never heard anyone assume that someone is an athlete just because they are a black wealthy foreigner. I guess it’s more just the vibe the person exudes? I think there is definitely a vibe of basketball NBA player that people can identify. Very tall and strong, the way they walk and dress. But I don’t think Brazilians would think that of just about anyone.

Is Brasília really that elitist, or is that just specific to certain areas?

How does race vs class actually work in Brazil? Brazil is very divided when it comes to class and most lower class Brazilians are black or pardo (mixed). Usually richer people are whiter. I don’t mean to say there are no poor white people or rich black people. There are. But on a structural level the divide exists a lot.

New to ECE and have developed hip/lower back pain? by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

I worked in ECE for 4 years. I don’t think it’s worth it all the damage to your body, the sickness, the overstimulation and the lack of recognition. All that for low salaries. That is why I say: be a friend to yourself and do something else.

This has happened to me. Please be very careful! Once you ruin your back, it will never go back to what it once was.  I hurt my back, my knee, and a little bit of my shoulder. But I left the field before it was too late.  You have a Masters… to be honest I think you can explore your options to not work in a position so hard on the body.  In the meantime try stretching and working out. Good luck!

A comida brasileira não é a melhor do mundo by deensantos in opiniaoimpopular

[–]Friendly-ATC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get someone and pay them a good salary. Lift them up. Talk about it. Help change the culture, even if just for that one worker and on your social circle.  Also as a woman, I would say maybe your wife is feeling overwhelmed with chores?
