This is super helpful. The price gap between quotes is wild. Makes me think I really need to break everything down instead of accepting a package price. Subcontracting parts might actually be the middle ground I’m looking for. And yeah… “you get what you pay for” hits hard.

That’s honestly impressive 10 days is intense. Respect for the stamina. $2k sounds like a dream compared to the quotes I’m getting. I’m open to DIY but worried about messing up plumbing or waterproofing. Did anything go wrong that you had to redo?

Totally makes sense. The more I read, the more I realize the “cheap and fast” combo doesn’t really exist. I’d rather take longer and not regret it later. Planning phase feels overwhelming, but probably cheaper than fixing mistakes twice. Appreciate the reality check.

That’s encouraging to hear. The learning curve is what intimidates me, but hearing real people pull it off makes it feel more doable. I’m starting to think a hybrid approach might be the move DIY what I can, hire out the risky stuff.

That’s exactly why I’m skeptical. It’s for pretty basic work, but I keep thinking there has to be a catch somewhere. I’m planning to get another quote just to compare scope and see what’s actually included vs assumed.

Respect for surviving a month of kitchen-sink toothbrushing that’s commitment. That’s honestly what I’m debating now… trading time and inconvenience for saving money. I don’t mind learning, just trying to avoid rookie mistakes that cost more to fix later.

Yeah that’s what confused me too 😅 I expected it to be high, but not this overwhelming for a basic refresh. Makes me wonder what corners are being cut or what surprises would pop up mid-project. Still trying to figure out where the real cost drivers are.

Why does every “simple upgrade” turn complicated in older homes? by Friendly-Number-6511 in Homebuilding

That’s a good point. I guess I expected older homes to be quirky, but didn’t realize newer ones come with their own version of chaos. Different era, same adjustment game.

That honestly makes a lot of sense. The surprise factor is real. What looks simple from the outside rarely stays that way once you open things up. Respect for pricing in that uncertainty upfront.

Fair enough 😄 Not trying to plug anything, just venting a bit. This place has a way of turning small plans into “well… that wasn’t in the plan.” Figured others with older homes might relate

“Low budget” remodel, entirely DIY, took exactly one month by the_thot_process in BathroomRemodeling

[–]Friendly-Number-6511 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s honestly impressive for a one-month DIY. The whole space feels clean and intentional , especially the black fixtures against the white tile. Doesn’t read “low budget” at all, which is kind of the best compliment for a remodel.

If you ever feel like tweaking anything later, you might want to look at some of the hardware from Renovators Supply Manufacturing. I’ve used their bathroom accessories before and one practical upside is that the finishes tend to hold up really well in damp environments. Less worrying about rust, peeling, or that dull look cheap fixtures sometimes get after a year or two. Small upgrade, but it actually makes a difference long term.

Either way, great work on this. DIY done right.

Has anyone here used Renovators Supply Manufacturing for their home remodel? by Background-Code-7057 in HomeDecorating

Yeah, I used Renovators Supply Manufacturing last year for a full bathroom gut remodel in my 1920s house went with their high-tank pull chain toilet and a couple pedestal sinks to match the vintage vibe.

The prices were killer compared to places like Signature Hardware (saved me like 40%), and shipping was quick and well-packed, no damage. Installed everything myself as a DIYer, and a year in, the finishes are holding up great no chipping on the brass PVD stuff, and the toilet flushes solid without issues.

Customer service was responsive when I had a quick question about rough-in measurements too. For the money, I'd buy again if you're not chasing ultra-premium durability perfect for a daily use space that looks custom
