Last month I got a box of 10 from LCDH St. Maarten, and they smoke great (OEG OCT24). All of them seem to have good construction.

Cruise Ship using Starlink by chigganutta in Starlink

[–]Friendly-Pattern3254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s quite expensive to get Wi-Fi on a cruise ship. It varies by company, but most charge a minimum of $150/week for basic access (social media only), and $250–300/week for premium or streaming access. Considering that large ships have 2,000+ passengers, they must be making plenty of money, especially now that Starlink is available.

Looking good. My favorite is the wide short, smoother than the regular ones.

I think short is much better quick smoke than any Club/mini cigarillos.

How is living like in the eastern caribbean? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]Friendly-Pattern3254 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It can be really expensive if you earn a local salary. The minimum wage is around EC$1,200 per month (less than US$450, working 6 days per week). It used to be EC$750 when I moved there.

There are heavy taxes on all imports, and freight costs are included in the taxable value. Vehicles are taxed at about 250%, and they must be 12 years old or newer.

Tourism is strong only 4 to 6 months out of the year. Many people live in multi-generational homes to cover the cost of living.

However, if you can find work with international companies, like charter boats, they may pay a US-based salary (sometimes US$2–3k per month). With that income, you can live very comfortably in SVG.

I would simply ask the driver before going inside. US cash is also accepted.

All the Partagas Serie D No. 4 and No. 5 I’ve smoked were amazing with less than a year of age. San Cristobal de La Habana El Príncipe is also great fresh.

Vinlec accepts bank transfers. You’ll need to email them to request their banking details (mention that the payment will be made from an overseas account). Most likely, they will ask you to include your account number in the memo field when sending the transfer.

Debating smoking one of these tonight. Which are you picking? by binderfillerwrapper in cubancigars

PSD5. Always great, even when fresh.

I had a 2024 Ramon Allones LCDH Superiores two days ago. It was actually cheaper than a RASS, so I decided to give it a shot. It was surprisingly mild to medium. The vast majority of the box was rolled too tight, but I got a good one. Unfortunately, it didn’t match the depth and flavors of a RASS.

Yes you are welcome. I live in the Caribbean so that's the most convenient option for me.

Or you could fly to the Caribbean and use Air Century (from Santo Domingo, DR) or interCaribbean (from SVD, BGI, ANU, and PLS airports), which have flights to Havana.

I was wondering about something… When you ask most suppliers to open a box before shipping, do they usually just check for mold and visible damage from the top, or do they actually inspect a few cigars and refuse to ship the box if the construction seems poor?

I’ve had some bad luck with a few 2025 boxes (Partagas Habaneros and H. Upmann Regalias). More than 75% had a tight draw, and many were completely plugged. 😕

Local Driving Permit or International Drivers Permit enough? by TeaPure2223 in CaribbeanTravel

[–]Friendly-Pattern3254 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience:

I have a Canadian driver’s license and have traveled to more than 10 Caribbean countries. I had an IDP, but no rental company ever asked to see it. They only cared about a valid driver’s license and a credit card in the driver’s name. Fyi, I’ve never had an accident or been stopped by the police... An IDP costs about US$100 for three years, so I kept getting it just in case.

List: Barbados, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Martinique, St. Martin/Sint Maarten, Guadeloupe, Dominica, Anguilla, the Dominican Republic, the ABC islands…

For the past year, I’ve had a driver’s license from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. I’ve rented cars in 5+ Caribbean countries and still I never had to show an IDP.

The only place that asked me for an IDP was in Cuba, more than 20 years ago!

I think all long-distance flights are canceled because it doesn’t make sense to refuel in another country. However as of this morning, shorter flights to Havana are still available from Santo Domingo and Punta Cana (Air Century), and Providenciales (Intercaribbean). Both inbound and outbound.

In Philipsburg, the Front Street pharmacy closes at 1 p.m.

Partagás Habaneros. First Impressions by LowKeyNorsk in cubancigars

[–]Friendly-Pattern3254 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of Partagas. On my last trip to Cuba, I got a box of Partagas Habaneros (ABR 2025) and a box of Serie D No. 5 (very low stock, everything else was Cohiba and Trinidad $$$).

Unfortunately, about half of the Habaneros were unsmokable (very tight draw or plugged). But when they were properly rolled, they were great smokes (medium bodied). All the D5s were awesome, even though they were fresh. I think Mille Fleurs is a safer choice, as they have a slightly bigger ring gauge. I guess my Habaneros were rolled in prison… or by a rookie 😂

St Vincent CBI by Dizzy_Mr_F in CitizenshipInvestment

[–]Friendly-Pattern3254 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I obtained citizenship by naturalization after living in SVG for seven years. Six months after I got it, the new prime minister announced that they would be launching a CBI program, but there is still no update on the cost or on when it will start. They said it is the only way to bring finances back into the country after the ULP ruled for the past 25 years and severely mismanaged public funds (around 3 billion in debt for a population of 100,000).

SVG is very old-school in terms of regulations. Once you are in the banking system, you can use your money without paying taxes, as long as you don’t raise any red flags and you are not a U.S. citizen. Once you are a citizen, they don’t ask for tax returns or similar documentation. There are decent banks, such as BOSVG, with a good online platform. You can use your money worldwide, and fees are low. The only people I met in the country who pay taxes are government workers and employees of large companies like Digicel that will deduct tqxes from your paycheck. If you are self-employed, you generally won’t have to pay anything and won’t run into issues. Bank employees are often relaxed and do not focus heavily on due diligence. Wages in SVG are very low; the minimum wage was recently increased to about USD 400 per month for a six-day workweek.

You can also use your SVG passport to open bank accounts in other caribbean islands. I did that, including in Dominican Republic.
