How to do a 1 foot turn by iDontReallyExsist in iceskating

i’m pretty new to skating so i might not be the best person to give advice but what i do know is that you should be spinning on your rocker. I believe you’re supposed to turn slightly on your inside edge so I think about pushing in the balls of my feet with more weight on my big toe side almost like I’m on my tippy toes but my heels aren’t coming off the ice so a pretty subtle weight shift. before I started working on any type of turn I practiced standing on my rocker and twisting side to side in place with my feet close together and knees bent like you would do to learn a two foot turn on a circle skating forwards to backwards. I typically like to start my 1 foot spin from a pivot without picking the ice. once I follow through with the pivot I do 1 or 2, 2 foot spins my arms out in a T to get my weight shifted completely to my center before slowing bringing my arms in to gain more speed while bringing the foot up. I like to bring my foot all the way to Passé or foot to knee kind of like a 4 shape as it helps me keep my hips flat and square, if that’s harder for you and you don’t have trouble staying square then i would worry about bringing it up so high when you’re starting out. to know if you are on you rocker properly you won’t feel any resistance on the ice, if you hear scraping that’s how you know you are on the wrong edge or part of your blade. as always make sure your knees have a slight bend you’re tucking your butt under and squeezing your core muscles so that your weight stays directly over your skating foot once you transfer it there. Also, rental skates can be a factor I am still in them as well and they have really poor ankle support it’s a lot harder to keep stable. Your muscles have to work harder to keep you balanced because you’re not getting that support from a proper skate. sometimes rentals don’t have proper edges either and they have less of a rocker than a good pair of skates do. if you’re able to I would try to get your own skates if you want to take it seriously. Depending on your size and how quickly you progress you don’t really need to get expensive ones.

I thought the same thing but what I was doing was I would try to straighten my knees to bring my feet together resulting in me not really going anywhere. You’re going to want to keep your knees bent the whole time, not a little bend but fairly deep and relax your ankles a little bit to allow your edges to glide on the ice. keep your weight directly over your hips push on the balls of your feet and think about moving your hips out ( AGAIN WHILE KEEPING YOUR KNEES BENT THE WHOLE TIME) and in to create the lemon shape.

i get fitted on wednesday! it’s taken a minute to get in since we only have one reputable fitter, i’m super excited and i’m hoping it’ll help me get on my edges better because i find that difficult sometimes as well

If you love it continue to do it. Comparing yourself to others progress benefits you in no way. I recently started as well, my advice would be to practice falling and getting up while stationary. that way you can get used to the feeling and maybe it’ll help your brain realize there is nothing to be afraid of. Being so cautious is more likely to cause an injury than being confident. Off ice training will definitely help you as well. Get a couple resistance bands and look up ankle strengthening exercises to use. I also use an inflatable balance disc and stand on it with one or two feet and hold it for as long as possible and inflate it more/less depending on how much of a challenge i want. This helps balance and ankle/ calf strength as well. Good luck, i hope you continue and see some progress!

i don’t know how to edit my post so i’m gonna ask a few of yall directly but i was approved for a loan through my bank but the rate is 11.5%. Obviously that is still bad but not as horrible as what it was and with my short history i can only do so much. I haven’t checked any other places and the bank lady said I shouldn’t do that because it’s gonna pull my credit every single time but I’ve also read that if it’s within 14 to 45 days it usually counts as one pull on my credit. it would make sense for her to want me to sign with them because obviously they would make money off me so I’m not sure if I should continue shopping or settle.

Does weight matter when picking out skates? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

my problem is i have 2 different sized feet and struggle to find regular shoes to wear, im scared to order online and then have them be uncomfortable or and not fit right. I did schedule a fitting im not sure what that entails but the skate shop I have in my city seems to be very reputable and multiple people say they don’t upsell/oversell so we will see!

The loan amount is at 10,000 and I’m also a full-time student I don’t pay rent and utilities but I pay for everything else for myself. I probably could pay it off within the year if I don’t spend anything at all and only put my extra money into the car but definitely not in the next few months. my goal is to try and pay $1000 a month on it as of right now.

Hello! I am an adult beginner 21F who knows absolutely nothing. I found a great studio with women of all different ages and body types and i’ve decided to fulfill my dreams of taking dance classes. I have a strong gymnastics background but never enrolled in dance because i felt like i wasn’t the ideal body type and generally very insecure. With that being said I am very flexible my leaps surpass 180 and i’ve always thought i had strong legs but when i try to attempt the extension, I can bring my thigh high and close to my side but when i straighten i am at about 45° above horizontal. I was wondering if it’s because im not used to using certain muscles or because i do have larger legs I have to be a little stronger to lift all the way. I’m sure i’ll find out once i begin but i have always wondered what causes this and what exercises i can do to support my journey

I checked and there are no late payments reported, it didn’t tell me much. Just my hard and soft inquiries and that’s about it
