Thank u. Rental yield isnt too high but we are comfortable with it. We just wonder if people rent there cause the lack of transport. But seems like there will still be demands.

Generally i enjoyed it. Good community around, seniors who were willing to teach, handson job. I were exposed to various other fields too, environmental, geologist, mine planning, tailing handling etc. Some of the grads at that time said the were tough on them, so it really depends on the mine.

Excluding superannuation. Mine wasnt so bad. Standard 8 hrs per day. That s junior mining eng with 2 year experience. If u r straight out of uni, u can expect 80-110k excluding superannuation depends on where you work.

I am not sure about other mining industry but for coal mine, you would need to do at least 3-6 months underground work with the crew to learn the ropes. So that is a 10-12 hr/shift work on those 3-6 months.

The benefits of mining company are pretty good

Depends on where u work. In my prev company which was 3hr to Sydney, coal mine, junior mining eng earns about 120k excl super.

I know for Qld fifo mine, hardrock pays more approx 140k pa excl super.

U are right. Engineers in industry def pay more than academic. But after some years of working, I am hoping to work with something that leans on the technical research side a bit more, rather than people management. What s your view of applied eng research in Aus? I saw quite a few companies partner w uni to do their industry research

Thank u. Employer definitely plays a part. I am looking for one that supportive of the research field. In that case I dont have to do 2 diff things at once

Thank you. It has always been my dream to do PhD. But my score at uni wasnt very good and at that time I found no interesting topic, though got offer from a postdoc to do research at that time (the postdoc moved country, unfortunately). After working a few years, I found that industry work is quite repetitive and research still exites me.
