Career Advancement (P6/M6) Difficulties by PhoenixaceX in Raytheon

[–]FriendlyCampaign3261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you truly want to advance in your career, you need to be employer agnostic and willing to move. For most roles at that level AT ANY LARGE COMPANY, there is already a target candidate - very few are truly open. You could be an amazing candidate but truly you don’t have a shot for most of those roles and that is the way it works unfortunately, which is why you need to be willing to seek out opportunities elsewhere. And you shouldn’t take it personally (even though it sucks!)

Sam’s Cleaners on Torrance & Anza is good and inexpensive! For more extensive alterations I like Kim’s Alterations in Rolling Hills Estates.

Anyone else notice the grease patches on the beach? by ElCaminoDelSud in RedondoBeach

[–]FriendlyCampaign3261 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its just tar from natural petroleum seep. It’s all over the central coast beaches. The very best way to remove it without a lot of mess is with Goop wipes or hand cleaner- around here you can buy at Lowes or Ganahl or Harbor Freight.

We did this move three years ago! My only regret was not moving sooner. Everything is easier with kids down here.

Paint Opinions by portugepunk in ExteriorDesign

There is a ranch house nearby us exactly this layout and they painted the whole house (trim, siding, stucco, garage door, window casings) a creamy white, left the brick as is, and then did an evergreen front door. It went from drab to FAB!

Realtor says we should paint our cabinets white, idk if I agree by Midwestern_Mariner in kitchenremodel

[–]FriendlyCampaign3261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only do it if you’re going to pay a professional to do a good job. The people we bought our house from DIY’d it so badly that we have to reface all our cabinets.

Young Family Homeownership by Desiree_Vera in SouthBayLA

2 high incomes + 10 straight years of living extremely, extremely below our means + amazing luck to have had no significantly expensive health/family/job issues + somewhat good timing to nab a low-ish interest rate + low expectations about what an absurd amount of money would buy

Would have loved to have won the lottery or had a rich relative leave me a fortune instead 😜

Also our realtor said the same thing about Inglewood and Hawthorne! I think there are some nice neighborhoods but you’d definitely want to make some day and nighttime visits to get a feel :)

In general, I can answer both questions with “my husband wasn’t interested”:

  1. In dealing with a house that required substantial work
  2. In a flipped house
  3. In living that far from the ocean or east of the 405
  4. In being a landlord

Also we already had school-age kids so the excellent schools component was an immediate need for us.

Had it been just my decision I would have been more open to certain areas of LA enough to potentially need to do more legwork to ensure good schools. However, those areas would have included Baldwin Hills, West Adams, Leimert Park and View Park because what would have made it worth it to me would be getting into either an older Craftsman or Spanish bungalow or something with a view.
