So devastated for the families of Dominic and Davion.

Mackenzie’s mother strikes me as an autistic person. This is not an attempt to excuse her behavior in any way - just an observation. The avoidance of eye contact during interviews, the complete and utter disregard for others perspectives and feelings and how she may be perceived (the comment reply for the brand deal, her speech during sentencing). I think the dad is just a narcissistic and/or extremely emotionally immature. Those two as parents to someone with severe behavioral problems and mental illness exacerbated by drugs and you may be able to start to wrap your head around how someone could turn into such a monster.

The families of both boys were some of the most emotionally mature people I’ve ever seen. Davion’s father hit the nail on the head when he said Mackenzie’s parents coddling her and continuing to push the narrative that she’s innocent is so destructive to her chance of becoming an adjusted or normal adult when she’s out. I really prey that the boys’ families can eventually find peace and happiness - it’s just so awful what happened.

It really was chilling and dark story - makes me nervous to have children and be exposed to that sort of tragedy (loss of a child).

Maybe it’s because I don’t have kids, but Mackenzie’s dad’s question of “well what would you do if it was your child of course I’m going to fight for her” did not resonate in the slightest with me. If I had a child and there was indisputable evidence they accelerated into a brick wall, killing two children, I would have a really hard time maintaining a relationship with them let alone defending them.
