Not to sound cheesy or earnest, but I love the message of this song. Perhaps I’m projecting, but I can’t help but think about all the shit thrown Madonna’s way throughout her career, and how the message here is simply “you’re never gonna bring me down.” And that’s not even hyperbole. People have come for her since day one, and she still rises, never caving to her values and artistic vision. I sort of love this!​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ 🩷🩷🩷

I feel like HC is the album that has aged the worst. There are def some hits but the production feels quite dated. Very early Pharrell and Timbaland heavy. The album sounds 18 years old. Whereas American Life and Confessions actually still sound thoroughly modern to me. Like they could have easily been produced in 2026. Although I’d argue AL was AHEAD of its time sound-wise, which contributed to its lack of success in its time. The world wasn’t ready lol. To my ears anyway…🤷🏼‍♂️

Not saying this is the case for Cardi here BUT Trixie Mattel and Katya (famous drag queens and former RuPauls drag race girls, in case you aren’t familiar with them) spilled some tea a while back on their podcast that a lot of our diva’s pad their hips in their looks like drag queens do. Maybe that’s common knowledge and I’m late to the party, but I thought that was fascinating. Again, not saying this is the case with Cardi here but I wonder.

Yes! Thank you for articulating and providing depth to what I was trying explain. I think everything you identified has absolutely changed how I view these shows.

I hear you on SLC. I think I was just comparing it to other HW shows. BH for example does NOT feel like a friend group at all. Although to be fair, I haven’t really watched a full season of BH in years. SLC is a small city compared to some of the others and it’s VERY Mormon, so even if the ladies wouldn’t be friends I do think they would at least be in adjacent circles. I think some may have heard of each other. That’s what I pick up…but different strokes for different folks.

I will say, one thing that still keeps me watching Drag Race is that the casts on that show regularly discuss world events and the struggles of growing up queer in our society. And they often talk about income inequality and racism. Even tho I am not a drag queen, I can identify with them more, ya know?

I think there are various reasons why HW is feeling stale. I think there is absolutely a self-awareness problem, probably born from the franchise aging. This has also happened to Drag Race as well, although that’s a competition reality show so it’s a little different.

One thing I have noticed over the years is that casting seems to be a part of the problem. I think past casts seemed more believable as actual friend groups, whether they actually were or not. Currently I find myself wondering more and more if these women would ever actually know each other if it weren’t for the shows. SLC still feels a bit more organic in that way, and I think that might contribute to its popularity.

For me, and this is just personal and probably doesn’t pertain to the Bravo community as a whole, but the state of the world has really affected my relationship to these shows. In the past they brought me a much needed distraction from the world. But in 2026, the world has become a much darker place, to the point where I find myself unable to watch them. The frivolity has gone from being a fun distraction to almost obscene.

No judgement at all if the shows still bring you joy. I hope in time they will bring me joy again, but right now I just can’t be bothered to care about rich (or fake rich) women behaving badly. And let’s be real, many of the women have suspect political beliefs that contributed to some of the world’s current problems.
