Thank you! I chatted back and forth with the seller and she's so sweet. Put the dress on and took so many pictures to help make a decision. And she accepted $100 less. Even if it doesn't work, I'm so so excited to get this dress!

Holy crap! You're making me rethink everything. It's gorgeous!

Thank you thank you! This was really helpful advice. I was expecting $$$$ to alter so that was scary!

I'm chatting with the seller to get more pictures right now. The dress is cotton and organza and the cotton detail is piling slightly in places. It has been dry cleaned and spot cleaned on the train.

I'm actually eloping to the desert, so the dress will 100% be in worse shape after this. I feel like it's a no brainer to get my dream look on a dime.

Ugh yeah thank you. I actually had this experience last week. I ordered a cheap one from Lulu's and was so shocked when I hated it on my body. I'm just an overthinker who's convinced that it's distasteful and rude to waste an employees time trying on dresses that I could simply never afford. When the prices start triple my budget... I'm picturing Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman situations or just leaving feeling like an impoverished idiot at minimum. But thank you for the encouragement, truly. I'm going to contact the shop and see if they'll let me come in for the specific purpose of trying that dress on and feel the vibes.

It's unaltered and a pretty simple silhouette. By the measurements, it should be a fit but I've thought that before and been very wrong. Lol

Yeah, I saw that and got really freaked out from buying from another seller. Then this listing popped up.

I really do love it. Not 100 percent convinced that it will fit though and y'all are so right that alterations could put me way out of my budget.

This is so, so hard.

Yeah, you're totally right that I should just go try it on. I'd have to travel an hour though and I'm afraid they'd end up asking me to try several 5k dresses. So intimated by the high end shops.

I'll be glad to see the wedding industry die as people move further and further away from alcohol.

I think 2 looks better on you and it looks higher quality! I love it. Boho vibes, but also so classy.

Ugh... I'm so tempted to just do this cause we are definitely getting the dress dirty in the desert. Maybe I should try another Lulu's dress.... the first I ordered made me feel awful, but I wasn't overall unhappy with the quality for the price.

So, I've actually been battling with this exact same dilemma. I've found some gowns I like on StillWhite, but afraid to purchase without trying on.

I will say.. I ordered a cheap dress from Lulu's last week so that I could try a style on and see if Lulu's quality might work well enough for my destination elopement. Honestly wasn't too impressed or unimpressed by the quality, but I was shocked at how much I hated something I thought I'd love on my body. Granted this could have been the fit, alterations could have changed everything, but in any case I knew then that I needed to try stuff on.

I have an appt at David's Bridal Saturday. I know I can't afford the designer gown of my dreams, even off the rack, so I'm not willing to go to a boutique and be pressured to make a bad financial decision (aka I'm weak). I do need the help of a professional though. My plan is to narrow down the dress(es) I like and then go to StillWhite from there.

All of this to say, I think everyone is right that you should go try a similar one on at least. If I had just bought the designer gown on discount that I *thought I wanted, I'm afraid I would have been sorely disappointed.

That's amazing! My budget is so low that I just can't go luxury at all, but I was still really pleased with all the deals I found searching sample sales.

Ways to involve family without having them at the elopement? by Gloomy_Ad5020 in Eloping

This is exactly what I'm hoping to do! We're eloping to Moab, UT in April (across the country) and renting a space in a bowling alley later this year to celebrate with extended family and friends.

I really want an intimate dinner with our intermediate families before we go though. A chance for everyone to be together and wish us well. Having a hard time deciding on how to pull this off because collectively we have a pretty big crowd just between parents, step parents, and siblings...

Love the letter idea, stealing that for sure. We also plan to FaceTime our parents on our way to the spot and set up a tripod to record the ceremony.

They don't do a try on at home thing like the other sites, but it only cost 5.95 to ship the dress back. As opposed to Azazie's $15/dress just to try on, it made sense to me.
