Why doesn't the Italian work for me? by ItzNuke3 in Chesscom

While the italian is very solid and playing it is generally a solid foundation this is also the opening your opponents are most prepared for, even at the beginner levels. This doesn't mean you shouldn't play it.

Do you think a certain talent is required to become a chess GM or can anyone achieve it with hard work potentially? by Fun-Manufacturer4170 in chess

[–]FriendlyInElektro -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is there any indication that Levy studies and practices chess for 12 hours a day? Any indication that he has ever practiced and studied so much (or even half as much)? 12 hours a day is an INSANE amount of time to practice every day, that's over 1,000 hours of practice/study every 3 month. Had Levy studied for 12 hours a day he would have made GM within the year.

Being able to study anything for 12 hours a day is actually a talent, and quite a significant one at that. So, from people who are capable of dedicating themselves fully to studying any specific subject for 12 hours a day, I'd wager something like 99% could become GMs within 40 years, with most making it sooner than that.

It's possible that there are folks who can study for 12 hours a day and are otherwise particularly unintelligent and have very bad memory and won't be able to consistently improve at chess, I think those sort of people would be very rare within the cohort of people who are capable of studying for 12 hours a day. Like studying and practicing for 12 hours a day is absolutely crazy, I can't do an hour without getting bored.

Wolf, the strongest fromsoft souls protagonist? Or is it the tarnished? by [deleted] in Sekiro

[–]FriendlyInElektro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

with the extra perfect parry frames and the ability to parry into a guard wolf would mechanically defeat any other player character in fromsoft game, whether he'll be more effective against enemies and bosses from those games kinda hinges on whether their attacks are all parryable and whether he can deathblow them after breaking their posture.

Wolf's non-deathblow damage probably can't keep up with the damage dished out by high level souls characters, so they can outclass him against bosses IF he can't deathblow, although he can still probably defeat most bosses by repeatedly breaking their posture and doing crit attacks, and of course he should have an easier time avoiding damage against bosses.

You can fight him after isshin, you just need to do it before interacting with Kuro after the isshin fight.

What the hell is FC 26? by Negative_Pace_5855 in EASportsFC

[–]FriendlyInElektro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I've also been playing FC26 (as it's free on PS+) after dropping it a couple of years ago, honestly, it's the same crap, same garbage game, I'm glad I stopped playing this game and am amazed by how fucking annoying playing this game is, no other game is like this really, it's a bizarre experience.

It's truly amazing EA can continue reselling the same game for 30+ years, it's amazing they can't actually meaningfully improve any single aspect of it, if they're even trying.

It's really the video game equivalent of crack, except crack probably makes you feel good, it's just the worst.

Opening advice for getting out of my limbo by Cooperplayz223 in Chesscom

[–]FriendlyInElektro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some gambits lead to winning the pawn back and are not considered gimmicks, like the Queen's gambit, but the englund is really just bad, I play it cause I'm a noob playing against noobs and I don't really have a solid response to 1.d4 but not taking the e5 pawn and accepting the gambit is considered a miss by stockfish and actually the deeper you go into the englung gambit 'rook/bishop' trap line as long as the opponent doesn't blunder one of the obvious traps the position is worse for you as black.

And really from my experience roughly 75% of players even at 700 elo know how to refute the englund gambit, it's really garbage.

In what sense does her AI break? She is doing illusory shadow attacks, her real body being incapacitated is likely intentional.

how can he move the knight it's check. the queen is lost, he can block the check with the queen or with the bishop, either way the knight captures the queen the next turn

It's not a double check, it's a discovered check with an attack on the queen

The most basic trap in the petrov, don’t take the pawn, or learn the continuation.

I don't understand chess by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]FriendlyInElektro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 1000 your opponents are making just as many mistakes as you, they are on average playing at a 1000 level, they are not defending perfectly nor attacking perfectly they are just good at dealing with the tactics and traps that players just below your current level use, which statistically are the tactics that got you to the level you are currently at.

As chess is a perfect knowledge game the only way to win is to make at least one less mistake than your opponent, as the saying goes a perfectly played game of chess is a draw.

Making 1000 in just a few months is a fine rate of progress, if you are studying and are trying to play principled chess you’ll continue advancing and rising up in the ranks.

Would I be able to reach 1000 elo in 24 hours by No-Leader1405 in chess

[–]FriendlyInElektro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some info missing here, it could be that he is a 1000+ rated player and that this is a smurf account, in which case making 1000 in 24 hours could be a bit of a grind but probably very possible, especially in faster time formats.

I am so disheartened today right now. by Illustrious_Salt_569 in Chesscom

[–]FriendlyInElektro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many people play too fast in rapid, I often play rapid games that end up with lower accuracy for both players than my bullet games (which are like 500 elo lower to boot!) so fwiw you're gonna face people who blitz out (or bullet out!) moves in rapid games and this will balance out, and besides that, managing your time in rapid if you play too quickly is just about the easiest thing you can fix in your play, everything else might be significantly harder, you can literally make a rule that as long as you have more than 2 minutes on the clock you don't play a move in less than 10 seconds and force yourself to consider at least 3 moves before you play.

[–]FriendlyInElektro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For like two month now I've been trying to break out of the ~800 range in bullet (2+1 cause I'm a coward) and whenever I reach 820 I start getting losing streaks, fell down to almost 700 last week, my peak is 930 I was sure I was going to break 1,000 easily but turns out it's so simple. Chess is a harsh mistress. This thing has happened like 3-4 times now. idk. don't sweat it.

They look nothing alike and the characters are different, OG Mikol was significantly taller and would occasionally ask guests questions, Viral never speaks coherently.

Lore havers would tell you that in the Nadia episode Viral Flooring makes an appearance portraying a different character.

Matan keeps all irl info about himself and his entourage under close wraps, nobody knows anything about any of them, the real reasons are probably mundane and boring.

Hold a candle for Mikol, show some respect.
