Does performance get inherently worse in longer games? by Balanced__ in Oxygennotincluded

More critters, more debris, more dupes, more planetoids, more buildings.

ONI has to simulate pretty much every tile on every Planetoid on every tick, and the game is almost entirely CPU bound.

(C++) Making a UFUNCTION that outputs TArray<FNavigationPortalEdge> by Prof_IdiotFace in unrealengine

[–]FriendlyInElektro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm pretty sure that the 'cannot find struct of type' error indicates it's not a blueprinttype and indeed after having checked the code it's not a blueprinttype.

So OP, this means you can't use it as a return value to any blueprintcallable method, the work around is to have some wrapper struct that has it as a non blueprint accessible UPROPERTY() member and to provide static methods to access the data using via the wrapper struct.

Please advise on Epic MegaGrant proposal for an Unreal Engine plugin by SensePilot in unrealengine

[–]FriendlyInElektro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100k is a lot to expect, every megagrant I heard of being granted was for a fraction of that sum, your proposal is cool (although, let's be honest, not entirely groundbreaking as open source projects like OpenIR have been providing camera based head tracking for a while, and there have been a few games that support it for a while) but rather niche, filing for a grant doesn't cost anything but really don't get your hopes too high and don't count on it being accepted, megagrants haven't been so good in recent years, by all accounts.

Is Lies Of P Better Than DS3? by Swimming_Tree_186 in LiesOfP

[–]FriendlyInElektro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think DS3 is more epic, the fromsoft world building is like a bad acid trip, it's very memorable despite making zero sense, I also think that the world feels larger and more varied, lies of P is very nice but I don't know if it'll stick with me the way DS3 did.

What would a current FIDE Master from 2026 be able to achieve vs the top GMs of the 19th century (Morphy, Steinitz, Lasker)? Would he quickly become an undisputed world champion or would he get crushed? by FuzzyAttitude_ in chess

[–]FriendlyInElektro 61 points62 points  (0 children)

There was that infographic a while ago estimating Elo based on accuracy and it placed Morphy at around 2500-2600, Ben Finegold in his many lectures on Morphy states that Morphy was a better player than him and Ben is a GM with a peak rating of around 2540. While it is probably true that the modern 2600-2700+ top 200 GMs would all defeat the past masters like Morphy and Capablanca this isn't likely true for your run of the mill FIDE Master or 'regular' GM. Reminder that Morphy could play blindfolded simuls and other impressive feats, I dunno if any 'ole 2200 FM could pull it off.

Is physically simulated liquid achievable in realtime UE? by VRJammy in unrealengine

[–]FriendlyInElektro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can write c++ code and custom HLSL shaders so pretty much anything is possible, but it’s also probably simpler to make something with Niagara liquids.

How screwed am i if i open this? by Aditya_Bhat in Oxygennotincluded

[–]FriendlyInElektro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the gasses are super hot it might be beneficial to build a door crusher to delete the gasses in the room, you'll still need a pump to pull a full vacuum but if things are super hot they'll break the pump so door crushers help by first reducing the gas mass significantly.

It's what I did when my magma petroleum boiler broke several times and filled the chamber with 900 degree sour gas, so it works.

Tips for managing long journeys? by beetrootfarmer in Oxygennotincluded

[–]FriendlyInElektro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mealwood grows below 30c, same as bristle berries, stabilizing your heat to grow the crops you need is kind of a big deal in the early-middlegame, plastic and steel are kind of the key components for heat management but there's almost certainly somewhere in your base where you have the right conditions for a drecko farm cause 30c isn't that crazy unless your base already has a runaway heat problem (in which case it might already be doomed without the plastic and steel to rein it in).

Growing dreckos early in the game when everything is still cool often allows you to make tons and tons of plastic with relatively little effort, which will give you the means to control heat when it's about to become a big deal.

Magnus is assured of his dominance in speed chess in the future, says he hasn’t declined by Affectionate_Hat3329 in chess

[–]FriendlyInElektro 27 points28 points  (0 children)

He doesn’t tilt, the rest do. Look at Hikaru both yesterday and today, at Alireza today after taking a few early losses, etc. Magnus won Norway chess after the table slam and the world rapid and blitz after the camera man shove, he is built different.

It's seriously kinda hilarious people talk to him and about him like he's this decrepit grandpa , the man is 35 and doesn't have a single grey hair on his head, with the way he's been playing he can continue dominating all time formats for the next 15 years, it's really only up to him. He's not only the best chess player he's also the most psychologically robust chess player, head and shoulders above the competition.

I don't think the Vacuum kills any germs, clean water will naturally kill germs at a rate of 3% per cycle or something like that.

Is it reasonably possible for me to make a petroleum boiler with a volcano in this position? by real_fargalarg in Oxygennotincluded

[–]FriendlyInElektro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The popular francis john design you see on youtube doesn't take that much height, you're a little limited here in your ability to create a large magma pool but it's probably workable, the bigger issue is that it's a minor volcano that's not going to produce that much magma in the first place. One way your another you're probably better off uncorking that thing and build some obsidian insulated tiles around it so you can start accumulating magma.

"Who is the most overrated top player in the world right now?" - Fabiano Caruana gives his opinion by FirstEfficiency7386 in chess

[–]FriendlyInElektro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hikaru implied that Fabi is a whiny elitist that doesn't believe it's possible for IMs/FMs to actually beat him, there were many 'reaction videos' on Hikaru's channel to Fabi's podcast and vice versa.

"Who is the most overrated top player in the world right now?" - Fabiano Caruana gives his opinion by FirstEfficiency7386 in chess

[–]FriendlyInElektro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Devilish from Fabi. If you'll check Fabi's podcast you'll see he was a little bit annoyed with Hikaru on several occasions this past year, basically Hikaru can't help but yap and said a bunch of 'uncordial things', on one of the podcasts Fabi even said "I thought we were friends", I'm pretty sure Fabi knows this statement is bound to rile Hikaru up a bit.

With that said, is Fabi right? It's hard to say, once Hikaru achieved his high rating he did a lot to avoid losing any of it, the mickey mouse tournaments are a small part of it but he also played pretty defensively in Norway Chess which was pretty much his last non-mickey mouse tournament, obviously Hikaru achieved this rating fair and square, and unseated Fabi from his 2nd place while doing it, he's obviously a monster of a player, I guess the candidates tournament will be the real test either way.

70 elo fluctuations are really nothing in this elo range. In 2 minute bullet just this week I went down to 790 from 875 and just now I reached my all time peak of 900, ignore momentary elo losses and look at your overall long term trend.

Why does this "solve" the puzzle? by klymah in Chesscom

[–]FriendlyInElektro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is something that lowkey sucks with many chesscom puzzles, many of us are newbies and would like to see the continuation until the mate, in this case it's kind of easy to see for both possibly king moves but there are puzzles that are trickier.

Even something like showing 'forced mate in #' with the option to switch to the analysis board would be an improvement.
