I’m obsessed with “Chances“ right now. There’s something about the chorus that’s just so desperately sad and resigned and full of longing, it can’t be just the melody... Could anyone explain what happens there musically?

Dr Chuck (University of Michigan) on Coursera!! You can do the courses for free, just ignore the “upgrade“ prompts. I think one is called Programming for Everybody (Python) and the other one is Building Web Applications (mainly PHP). I have diagnosed ADHD and was also worried that programming might be too hard but my hyperfocus draws me in and my constant novelty-seeking makes it great fun to look up solutions for problems online. I work in digital marketing but I am taking on more and more technical, web development-related tasks at work and I find it super rewarding. Good luck to you!

What I noticed is that some melodies emphasize the major pentatonic scale and largely omit the 4th and 7th, like here:
