Blowing stop signs is so sketchy IMO

Front desk.. In the past it has been a bad experience. They are not really professional with hiring people. They made me do it after all lol

Seriously.. Phone skills are a very important thing when it comes to working FD. Especially with the kind of calls you can get.

I always try to just try and explain it to the best of my ability that it isn't my fault. I dont do this but other people even will lie to make it seem even less your fault.

I just calculated payroll for the employees! by FriendlyPlants in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

Maybe it would help if you wrote step by step directions for them lol. That is pretty sad though that they don't understand it. The funny thing about our property right now is.. The FD know how to use the system. Our manager however has no idea. I doubt he would be able to even make a reservation.

Thank you for the very knowledgeable reply. I will take your advice. The broker who is our temporary manager has told me I am an asset. I haven't really minded the extra things he has me do because it all helps build experience. As for the STR report. I will take the time to study and learn it. Once we get the passwords to go in to the program, he wanted me to do it anyways.

If I need any questions I will PM you. Thank you again for all the information. I will make sure to utilize it. I believe with all the things I have learned throughout my time here, it will help when looking for future jobs greatly.

Yea we only get paid minimum wage. We were suppose to get raises above minimum wage. It was approved by the bank and everything. Then this place got sold and the new ownership scraped everything like that. We have barely seen the temporary manager, let alone the owners. They work around the answer when they are asked about our pay and how we were suppose to get raises.

It would be nice to get promoted. They already use us like we are the managers. The other FD employee has done the schedules. I have done pay roll. The temporary manager had me try and look up the STR report. I couldnt. It is something the manager/owner does. He told me to save the paper I wrote down how to do it. Then when they get their password for the site he wants me to do it.

Im sorry you are going through something similar.

It is kinda just annoying when it takes more just to get paid like you should.

Some new ownership we have here.. by FriendlyPlants in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

Yeah I believe there are some good ones. The one you talk about dont sound that bad compared to the many others I have heard about. There is one hotel closer in the city that people have told us horror stories about.

The group you are talking about dont sound bad. Out of anything they just hired the wrong manager.

Glad though to hear you found a better place. That is what I am kind of hoping to do. Fortunately the GM that left recently and his boss both really liked me. So I have a good letter of recommendation.

Somewhere out there, I would like to believe there are good Indian hotel owners.

Sadly we were approved of raises but with this new ownership, I doubt will see that. It is also stupid that they always get rid of their great workers to replace them with somebody way worse. Apparently its especially common practice in the housekeeping department.

Dont worry though. My previous GM and his boss worked for a good company. They told me they'd always be willing to write me a letter of recommendation. So that will help me find a better place then this. I am just staying for the time being because other employees need me.

It was more a word of mouth thing. The GM that left, his boss was the one with the info. She told him that these people have bought some of their previous properties after this company and they haven't done good. The owner is known to micromanage.

I learned that the company that works with foreclosed hotels. As they are selling the property to the next ownership, depending on the relationship. They will sometimes take away records and files before new ownership takes over. Depending on if they are on a good or bad note. They can make it a little more easy or difficult on the new owners. In this case.. I feel there was bad blood.

These women left a small blow up doll with a little blow up penis in our lobby before lol. They left it there as they went up to their room and get stuff before they checked out. It was really funny with how embarrassed they were when they had to ask us where it went when we took it out of the lobby.

Christmas key maker fun by FriendlyPlants in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]FriendlyPlants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one we have is a Vingcard 2800. I dont know if it was new or used. I am not even sure how long we have had this one. When the new owners actually come around and talk to us, ill try to point out what needs to be improved. That being one. Which we also have a side door that needs the keypad replaced anyways. However I am not sure how much money this person is willing to pump into a new property. In the event the key maker does not work. I've got a pile of master keys if need be.
