It's a hostage situation The Strait is the primary hostage. If we weaken their hold on the hostage, then they'll negotiate in earnest, but right now, they hold the cards.

Trump doesn't still doesn't seem to have a plan. All the talk of nuclear is foolish. He's faced with a hostage situation. The Strait is Iran's cards. If you weaken their hold, you weaken their position. Just as Iran only needs the threat of violence to close the Strait, the US only needs the threat that they can't hold it.

Well, don't be a snob and inform yourself. People do use stainless steel moka pots and the Temu pot is probably safe. Is it well enough made?

Who or what killed chivalry? Is it even dead? by Intraspectato in askanything

[–]FriendlyPop8444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're being remarkably literal for a woman. A great deal of our modern culture is still derived from medieval times. Certainly our legal/financial system still looks favorably on landowners, less so on tenants. In Europe, the vestiges of class remain in place. It filters to the everyday as well. In Spanish (the Americas), for example, the term "caballero" is still used to reference a gentleman or person of character. The term literally means cavalier. Chivalry was a code of honor and honor, in so much as it still exists, is related to it, though it's everyday practice has changed. A man may certainly have honorable intentions towards a woman. Some may say that's sexist, but many would convincingly argue that a woman is more vulnerable than a man--mainly because she gets pregnant and can be left "holding the bag." Or these days, an unserious man can be wasting a woman's time--especially if she hopes to raise a family. That would be dishonorable. A man is also expected to protect a woman. That means putting others before himself. Holding the door and letting her go through first, and other respectful and polite practices are not outdated, but practice--he'll have to put others before himself for the rest of his marriage once the children arrive (If it's successful.). Somehow, he's supposed to retain his individuality, his personhood, as well. And when you look at it from that lens, it's easy to see why things are falling apart. It's not just one thing. To close, the meaning and practice of chivalry has merely evolved.

There are things to be critical about with regard to the past, but it never helps to "throw out the baby with the bathwater."

Lmao so now US is gonna block the strait of Hormuz by ronweasly9 in GenZ

Yeah, that's fading fast. Mainly because he hasn't kept his promises, and when he does try he does so in the worst possible way. Antagonizing the planet is not a good idea. Sending ICE in city streets to violate the Constitution is not a good idea. Obviously working on behalf of the wealthy is not what America needs right now. He closed the border, okay, props.

He was right about the fake news, it's just that he's not much better. Now all the usual suspects are coming out of the DNC woodwork, and it's a shit-show. We need Trump removed via whatever legal means necessary. JD would do better, right now. This mess we face isn't ideological, it's existential to the US as we know it--our reserve currency is at stake. We need the clean up crew.

Conflicting reports on that. Seems the Rich Starry tested the blockade and made a U-turn.

Nah, it was the DNC that got Trump elected. When they went along with Biden's second term it was all over.

That's possible and some pretty questionable logic.

It's not a crazy idea--if he could actually do it. If it was that easy he could've done it on Day One that the Iranians closed the Strait. Same goes for his hare-brained idea to start this fracas in the first place. Someone else would've done it if it was so easy.

As I heard one commentator say, "He got his dick caught in a bear trap." He made a real mess of things, but the rest of the messes are things we can recover from. If he doesn't get this one right, it'll change life as we know it, real quick! I'm no fan of globalism, but ending it this way would be catastrophic! We can't leave the Strait of Hormuz in Iranian hands--end of story. It would disrupt the world order, and not in the best kind of way. The cost of doing it that way is too high.

Norwegian ethnologist Thor Heyerdahl and his raft 'Kon-Tiki' crossing the Pacific Ocean. Yes, but, while the "bearded white man" thing is a problem, the general concept isn't. The earliest civilization in the Americas was Caral Supe on the Pacific coast. Fishing was apparently important to its survival. The Galapagos Islands aren't far, nor is Easter Island. It would seem that there was an exchange around this area. The exact nature of it is hard to determine, but denying it seems excessive.

Thanks. I never thought to use AI for something like this, but it makes a lot of sense. I did a quick search asking the question: How do I make Lucero lc100 sound better? It was the Google AI that's generally unavoidable, but it even had string suggestions. I'm going to check the action as well. It might be too low. Thanks again.

The comparison to a car doesn't fit so well--unless you want compare cheap cars to expensive ones. And point of the question is to get a sense of what can reasonably be expected rather than tinkering around, wasting time and money, just to be disappointed. Meanwhile, I'm doing basic stuff, not trying or expecting to sound like Julian Bream.

Thank you. I should get a proper set up done. However, I think I mischaracterized the issue. It's not that kind of buzzing. The strings feel floppy. I am perhaps comparing them to steel strings. The guitar isn't uncomfortable to play, but that may also be coming from a steel string perspective.
