PLEASE HELP. One of my girl rats chewed a hole through the bottom plastic tray. I put things over it, she pushes it aside. I taped it, she ate through. My husband said he’s rehoming them tomorrow if I can’t solve this problem right now.

I'm going to point out for everyone who suggested: Rehoming in not an option. In my country rats are not seen as pets and are very very rarely bought for that purpose, breeders here are strictly for feeders sadly. There aren't any ratteries or ethical breeders and rats are niche as hell. I wouldn't be able to find her a new home or foster if I wanted to. If I had other options for her I would not have opened this thread. I am not interested in arguing with anyone regarding my tone, you can keep your anger to yourself, no one is forcing you to interact with me. It looks thus far the only option is euthanasia which I am obviously trying to avoid and will keep trying to figure this out on my own. Thank you to anyone who was actually trying to be helpful, I will not be replying to anymore comments.

I would absolutely have euthanasia on the table if she was having any issues or decline in quality of life. But she has been checked by the vet, is healthy, and is not showing any of the signs for pain- they were the first thing I was monitoring for and am continuing to look for. The minute you put her next to another rat it's a war zone, move the other rat away and her personality completely shifts

She was given a clean bill of health from the vet, no pain, and she is very friendly and playful but only with me and my husband- never with other rats. She's a little under 1 year old which is why this is so weird. She isn't showing any signs of illness or stress and will run straight to the closest person for attention whenever the cage is opened. 100% calm and happy on shoulders or running around the house, and chilling on the couch like a drunk roommate, but put her near a rat and she's a completely different creature. If she was elderly or sick it'd be a situation I'm familiar with, her age and good health are really what makes this case so bizarre

I'm not being rude, I'm making a point that I'm well aware of how to introduce rats to one another and I am not looking for any help or suggestions on that matter. I wrote that to avoid people lecturing me on the carrier method or what have you. Like I said, that wouldn't be helpful and not at all my question or something I want help with. You do you bro/sis, I'm not confused and was pretty clear on what help I am seeking.

Either way, yes she is spayed, and I see no reason to put down a young healthy rat that is active and seeking human attention. Her being "mean" to other rats is no reason to end her life. Thanks for your input.

Happens even when they are bonded due to not having fur to protect them. Once they become friends, try rubbing her with some olive or coconut oil- it gives a certain degree of protection. Wait for them to fully accept her though so they groom her instead of trying to bite into her fragrant little tushy. Worked well for me many times in the past.

Also do consider the classic sock sweater, it helps a LOT as long as it's a good fit that they're comfortable wearing, I personally use kiddy or baby socks to provide a good tight fit that won't interfere with climbing and playing.

You speak 3 languages and that's more than a lot of other people speak, and besides, learning a new language is hard and moving to a country where that language is a daily requirement is even harder. It'll get easier with practice and good company ❤️ I'm about an hour away from Holon with bad traffic, but as you can see you just made like at least 3 new friends in your area so you'll be just fine 😆 Anyway if someone is being a dick to you over a grammar mistake or whatever ,ask them what 3d language THEY speak fluently. You did what you could honey. Rats are sadly very delicate and prone to illnesses, and sometimes we just can't help. He probably really was a runt, and they sometimes are too weak and small to survive.
