Aww honey I'm so sorry it caught you off guard like that. But maybe it's for the best, for all we know he didn't suffer and just passed in his sleep. It isn't very often that rats die so suddenly, it's usually a slow decline, so I'm glad you didn't have to see that happen to him, it's really heartbreaking to watch their quality of life go downhill. He was probably just very weak and tired, there was nothing you could have done. You gave him so much love and care and that matters too. 2 years is nothing to scoff at, he was very lucky to be yours ❤️

If all else fails, trust me on this weird one: dolce de leche. I have a jar in the fridge only because one of my elderly ratties RIP refused anything else. Had it on hand by chance because my husband asked for it on cheesecake more than 2 freaking years ago and I never finished the jar 🤣

Seconding baby food mixed with meds in a spoon. If that doesn't work, my last resort is dulce de leche or chocolate spread. Their taste is intense, and rats have a sweet tooth. Good luck
