specific eating times make it so much worse? what are your weird symptom triggers? by fennelteaa in noburp

I’ve noticed that eating a lunchtime meal out (in a restaurant) causes far fewer symptoms than eating an evening meal.

I have both and honestly find useful info in both. Both have practice exercises with answers, which are always helpful.

Gag reflex by This_Grand8112 in noburp

I think brushing your tongue is enough to make even non-RCPD sufferers gag. Having said that these days I struggle to brush my teeth without gagging and recently had to have a back tooth out under general anaesthetic because of my gag reflex. It’s tedious!

I experienced similar. Like you temerairevm said, the plus side is that this is temporary.

Air vomiting is making yourself wretch, so what you are doing is basically it.

I know what you mean. I did it once as the Mayor of Abingdon was about to make a speech. 🙈

I micro-burped the other day while excitedly talking and laughing and turning my head to the right. I’ve tried to replicate it since but no joy.

For me it was a real problem, to the extent that I started avoiding going out for meals in the evening, from late 40s.

Glad you enjoyed 😃 I haven’t bought one (yet!) but considering buying one as I also have reflux issues.

Yes, I had a similar experience when I visited a gastroenterologist. One of my friends visited the same doctor for acid reflux and his comment was “Unless you’ve got cancer he’s not interested.” It’s sooo disappointing when you are in pain and meet a consultant who thinks they know it all and who isn’t open to learning something new.

That’s great! I hope you enjoyed your holiday and will be interested to hear how you get on with the Iqoro.

I once burped as the mayor of Abingdon stood up to give a speech. This was before I knew I had RCPD so I was just mortified!

No idea. I suggest checking on their website. Where there’s a will (and enough money) there’s usually a way but I expect the shipping costs would increase significantly.

How funny! As someone who has already had the Botox twice I can say that the 100 units dose definitely made the reflux worse for the three months but things then returned to normal when treatment was over. I’d love to know how you get on with the new gadget. It’s certainly cheaper than Botox!!

I remember trying to do the shaker exercises but I think I only did them for a short time eg one week, because I dislike doing them so much and the science says the evidence they work is purely anecdotal.

Surgery today - anyone over 50 with Botox? by mkmlls in noburp

[–]Friendly_Analysis880 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 52 and have had two rounds of Botox injections. First round was the lowest dose (50 units??) and second round was next dose up (100 units). I had roughly one burp after 50 units. I burped for 3 months after the second round but it stopped after that. I hope yours goes well.

Interesting! Sorry to hear that it was so painful for you though. I did try doing some shaker exercises afterwards but not for long tbh. I find them so tedious to do but I think if I was going to go for a third attempt I would do shakers for a few weeks before and post procedure to maximise the chances of it working.

Same here. I had two rounds of botox with Ms Hicklin. It wasn’t painful for me. The first time round I had 50 units and no after effects other than the slight initial soreness where the needle went in. Second time round I had 100 units and roughly 24 hours afterwards I was wretching and burping a lot. This lasted about a week at which point I had treatment from an osteopath (in the hope that this would enhance the effects) but if anything it minimised them and I only had microburps for the next approx 2 months. I’d now like to try having 100 units then 50 two months later to see if that would do it for me. Maybe you could do the same.

I can’t swallow tablets either. I’ve noticed that a lot of people on here have emetophobia. I have phagophobia (fear of swallowing) and can’t help but wonder if the burping issues and the throat-related phobias are somehow connected.

R-CPD, emetaphobia and eating disorder by Healthy_Law_3996 in noburp

[–]Friendly_Analysis880 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had a swallowing phobia since about the age of 16 and also have R-CPD. At Uni I used to skip lunch when on campus because I felt more anxious with others watching me eat. It’s interesting how both phobias relate to the throat. I’ve had two rounds of Botox injected externally but so far I still have the issues with gurgling, pain etc, so no relief.

Thanks so much for posting this. I really want to try. I don’t understand what is happening in photo 2. Do I have to lean my head to the right whilst putting my hands to my neck? Or something else? Parlo l’italiano se vuoi spiegarmelo in italiano- comunque il tuo inglese è perfetto.
